Movie costumes
Ok, so the 1st movie rocked! The costumes are great, it follows the story line pretty good, it was a hit. The 2nd aint too shabby, the costumes are a little different, they were better in the first, but then we hit movie #3. ACK! they are like grass green and shiny/rubbery looking.
Now why couldnt they keep the costumes from #1? I liked them in the Next Mutation alright too, what erked me though is like mikey for example has that stupid hat-bandana. But they looked so awasome "bulked-out". Your thoughts? |

The costumes in the first two films were cool, though the second had better mouth/eye movements. The third film had the worst costumes. Splinter in the Next Mutation looks like someone's wearing a a giant stuffed animal/ And raph's mask looks like someone tore it from a rag. |
The costumes for the first two movies were really well done. They had to get a different company to do the costumes for the third movie (those costumes don't last forever, ya know).
In TNM, the costumes for the Turtles were really good for the budget they had, although the costumes for other characters left a bit to be desired. And the animatronics could have been better. But hey, they weren't as bad as the Turtle Tunes/Turtles Christmas/Concert Tour costumes. I liked the "pumped up" look, too. And the fact that their shells didn't quite cover their backsides. |
costumes
Yeah, splinter sucked in the next mutation, and like I said, I didnt like the hat-bandana thing, but I did like them being more built in the next mutation.
Although if I had to choose, i'd say movie 1 all the way! I'm gonna watch movie 2 to take a look at the eye movement thing. If I remember, movie 1 and 2 their costumes looked pretty similar, perhaps more spotty in the 2nd? which april do you like best? |
i preffer the first april, she looked more serious, i do think april 2 too is cuter, but the first one is better for the part
|
costumes
The first movie had great costumes...they were very well done.
The second movie you noticed they'd changed but they still looked cool enough I guess The third movie their costumes did look rubbery yeah, ick. Splinter was done awfully IMO. The costumes sufficed, but nowhere near as good as the first. |
I just watch #2 a little bit ago and yeah the animatronics were good, but I still think #1's were better all the way. I think most of the time the movements were smoother and just seemed more real, hell of alot more convincing. I heard that many times they broke down. The over all look of the original turtles is fantastic. I fell in love with Raph when I first saw the movie in '90. It's pretty scary you forget they're not real. (WAHHHH! Oh why can't they be real!! )
The 3rd flick, oh my god what happened. The Creature Shop didn't do it, obviously. Hell If they weren't gonna I wouldn't have made #3. Have you seen the rare photo of Mikey from #3 w/out his bandana? oh my goodness! hehe he looked funny. it was from a cut scene. Splinter, done by Kevin Clash and his crew was right. The 3rd Splinter sucked. Actually all of the animatronics in 3 weren't up to snuff, they seemed too mechanical. I also liked the original April better than Paige Turco's April. And I missed Casey in 2. Keno was cool though. And for TNM..I haven't really seen much except for the clips online, I have a favorite picture tho..that one of Raph lookin all pissed holding what looks like a pipe, ready to smash someone's head in with it? Oh man he's sexy in that...AAAAAAHHHHH! hahahaha |
Anyone see a pattern here? The third movie is always the worst (With the exception of Goldfinger). Terminator 3 couldn't scare a two year old, Jurassic Park 3 had been spoiled by it's ending, I never saw it but I heard Godfather 3 wasn't as good as the first two.

It's extremely rare when a trilogy is great. the only ones I can name right off, are Back to the Future, Star Wars(eps 4,5,6), Indiana Jones, and if you can consider it a trilogy, Trek 2,3,4<-those 3 go together.
For TMNT3, they should have done some kinda of City At War sort of thingy. Something based off the comics like #1 was. Quote:

As for trilogies, my favorite is one that no one ever mentions, and it's one that's managed to stay (relatively) good through all three movies (and hopefully, a fourth.) Tremors. |
Funny, I coulda sworn the Terminators were supposed to be an action series, but apparently they're supposed to be scary movies now...

LOTR is a great trilogy too! (I don't care that the third one hasn't come out yet, it's going to be good!) |
If he were holding a gun to my head he would be

Costumes
The first movie was well done, very well. The second was also perfect, but the third I agree did suck
Next mutation,I thought was pretty sexy actually  I loved the buffy muscles! Leo was alright,Don could of been better,Mikey was okay, and Raphael...was sexy.I'm sorry I'm a dumb person, but he was lol!  At least in my opinon. The voices were good too.I liked Leo and Raph's the best |
Venus was kinda sexxy I guess, imagine if the show featured April... Cat fight!

by the way folks, where are these wonderful costumes yee speaks of?
for all we know they are gone with the wind. :-? |
Kevin Eastman probably keeps them in storage, along with the rest of his stockpile of TMNT episodes, merchandise, props, comics, etc, etc.

I saw a cool splinter costume being sold on some website.I never seen it before I think and it looked brand new.It didn't look nothing like the splinters in the movies. But the costumes aren't suppose to be shown yet. |
When I view a pic of NTM I thought splinter looked too tall for his height.
The puppet would be a better touch. |
Who knows where these costumes and props are actually. I know there was a TMNT prop auction, I forgot where I read about that. Some say once in awhile some items show up on Ebay. One said Leo's katana were on ebay for like $100-I'd have paid that for them. Recently, a repeated item, movie 3 Donatello with animatronics was up for bids. It was in so-so shape, looked too delicate.
Hopefully, the original molds and stuff used for the original guys still exist, if they decide to use those again for the hopeful 4th movie. I want to know where Raph's sai are...I want those. Quote:

I once read somewhere that one of the reasons why the first movie was so dark was because the costume designers felt low lighting on the set would conceal all the stitches, wires, and whatnot that might be protruding from the Turtle suits. I feared at any moment, an arm would slide off or their plastron would snap away from their chest! There was a slight Mirageness to the movie 1 suits, but I honestly didn't care for them as much as I do for the suits in 2. They improved by the time the sequel came out and even Michelan Sisti liked them more. Um, we won't go into 3. :-D I liked the third movie for several other things EXCEPT the costumes. HT once said turtles don't have freckles like that. My sister said, after looking at a movie 3 Don 12" figure, that they looked more like bullet holes!
As for where the suits are now, the sad thing is, they've been pretty much taken apart and sold in various auctions or kept by people as movie memorabilia. It's very rare to find a full costume in mint condition. Foam latex easily tears or flakes away to nothing. I've actually touched Mikey's hand from TMNT 3 and it felt very soft and smooth. In order to extend the life of the latex texture, it must be treated with great care. That's why when filming on the set, the actors tore the costumes up beyond repair and had to have a fresh one ready for a new scene. |

from what i know....there is a full costume (stunt i believe from movie 1 donatello that Ernie Rayes Jr wore) at a planet-hollywood. I've only been to four so...and I don't know if its still there....and i can't remember which one...
toronto chicago oralando vegas (my parents where there....so it had to be chicago) |
I always forget Ernie Reyes Jr Was Donnie's action man in the first movie. Duh!
That guy is very cool and incredibly talented...I wish his dad had one of his schools down here in the southern half of Cali...he don't! Hell I probably couldn't afford it anyways. |
Even tho one of my other friend would disagree with me cuz she thought the 1st movie costumes were the most 'realistic', I havta disagree with her, and agree with Brina when I say that I also thought the suits in 2 looked better. My ohter friend thought they looked too cartoony in 2, which I also disagree with. I feel they had more emotion and more eye movements, and cuter faces, heehee!
I had also heard that about the dark concealing flaws in the suits. But also I thought the set was dark cuz that's how they wanted the movie portrayed, dark and almost gothic, to match the dark setting in the comics. |
I dunno, whenever I t hink of a turtle, I think of one of the first movie costumes (admittedly, Mikey). I think the costumes just fit the personalities better. I could see Raph being a bouncer (and I know a few bouncers, all who are flattered with being compared to a hothead hardass turtle). Leonardo looked serene, and Mikey was adorable!! Donatello was good, and the darkness of the set was apropriate. NYC is dark, dudes.
The Splinter costumes IMHO got worse as the movies went on... to the point where, when re-watching TMNTIII, I likened him to King Kong with that brow and the very flat face. Some people picture Splinter as canine-looking, but I think the first movie puppet was the best. Jim Henson's company (I think it's the Creature Shop, btu the actual name escapes me :) Heh, whoops) does wonderful work for the costumes. And... all in all... I think I saw six episodes of TNM. ALthough there's this wonderful picture at a certain Yahoo club that I'm positive some people here are members of, if judging by the Raphael pic, the costumes were all right. I do have TNM-style art on my wall. And ANYTHING is better than the Turtle Tunes/Turtle Christmas/COOTS costumes! :) OK, not anything. I'd be asking for it... |
The TMNT Movies are one of the films with one of Jim Hensen's Creature Shop Workshop involved in it.
I wish I have a list of every movie with Jim Hensen's Creature Shop involved in it. |
Speaking of which
There is a head of Leo now on ebay from Movie 1. The mouth looks a little different though. I cant afford it, I blew all my money on a comic, but its still neat to get a close up look at it. There is also a movie shell and "practice wooden sais" on ebay. 8)
