Nick's 2023 TMNT plans revealed
You guys need to visit twitter sometime, this place is slow:
https://twitter.com/TMNT/status/1493709630840750086 https://twitter.com/paramountplus/st...07572972429315 The 2023 Seth Rogen CG movie will be followed up by direct-to-streaming movies about TMNT villains debuting on Paramount Plus. I assume from the same universe as the new film, but it's hard to tell based on wording. No news on a new cartoon yet, but I get the feeling something based on the 2023 movie might happen especially if it's a hit. |

So... Rogen's movie will have a bunch of different villains? Is that the takeaway here?
|
So we're getting a TMNT cinematic universe of sorts? I'm interested.

It's an interesting idea and conceptually some of TMNT's villains you could easily craft interesting stories around...but if this is going to be in the same continuity as Rogen's movie we'll have to wait and see what kinda tone that movie goes for. Like you could totally do a great in depth Mirage-based story about Oroku Saki's journey into becoming the Shredder...but if it's based on the Fred Wolf version were he's just a dick who pins Yoshi to the wall to get his position then I aint interested.
Then there's the bigger question of whether TMNT really has the popularity to have spin off characters. It's like Sony's insistence on making an adjacent Spider-Man universe when other than Venom no one is really interesting in Spider-Man villains on their own. |
Yeah that sounds like every big Fred Wolf villain will be in the Rogen movie and they’ll get their own follow-up movie

seriously though why does everyone credit this movie and the last two to the producers despite the first four not having that distinction, let alone every other movie on the planet?? |
15 years ago I'd be excited about possibility of TMNT multiverse...now, and especially with Rogen participation...thanks, but no thanks.

So we’re getting the Rogen reboot/Next Chapter movie plus a series of villains films that may or may not be related to it. Presumably they are linked but it’s not clear from the wording. Shouldn’t be surprised, they still haven’t cleared up if Rogen’s film is a full on reboot or if “The Next Chapter” subtitle means it’s a MOTU:Revelation style loose sequel. Or even if “The Next Chapter” is the official subtitle.
On the plus side it will be nice to see some different villains getting movie focus and I get that animation takes time so this will allow them to have stuff in the pipeline but after the last 2 movies this is putting the cart before the horse. Let’s get a solid movie out first before we worry about universe building. |
Official concept art for the CGI movie has been released.

That is god awful if real. I’m confident that this movie could kill TMNT forever if it takes a goofy tone like that.
|
Please tell me that art is a joke.

Concept art isnt the same as the finished product, lets not forget that.
|
It... could be worse... but wth did they do to Donnie?!
|
At this point I wouldn't be surprised if one of the Turtles are gay in this version.
|
TMN villains aren't Batman villains, they can't carry a movie. I mean I'm curious to see how they handle it but perhaps the TMNT show up in all of them, I don't know it could be exciting. I think this is very ambitious and I don't think it'll pay off but I'm actually curious now.
As far as the turtles, they look like Kermit but it's only concept art, it'll look much different once it's all said and done. We always knew this was going to be aimed at kids. At least they seem to be doing something new so I'll give them props for that. |
Besides Don's glasses, the Turtles designs at least feel much more normal than they were in either the 2014 movies or Rise of the TMNT. No huge Hulk Turtles with human noses, and Rises' designs were very out there.
If they dropped Don's glasses I wouldn't mind these designs. Raph with a durag doesn't bother me. |

Though the fact he worked on Gravity Falls gives me a bit of hope. |
Nickelodeon has clarified that the TMNT movies about the villains isn't related to the CGI movie, Looks like its gonna be its own thing.

Ah ok, so this isn't as ambitious as I thought. I'm really curious to what they will do and what villains they'll choose, will they be like origin stories and the turtles will show up? Villains I can see carrying a movie by themselves would be Triceratons, Baxter Stockman,

It's not a bad idea, it's literally just a setting and it's one ripe with many story possibilities
|
has the live action movie been canned?
|
I am digging the concept art. I’m tired of having negative feelings about newer TMNT stuff. So please make this good.

I know they're just fodder to build Paramount+ content library, but Sony's Spider-Man villains universe without Spider-Man feels pretty pointless (is anyone really looking forward to Morbius?) and even Spidey's B-list villains are more well known than TMNT villains (outside of maybe Shredder, Krang, Bebop & Rocksteady). At least if they were connected it would feel like maybe there was some purpose to them. |

But let's face it, it's Viacom/Paramount, so it'll probably be:
Obviously I'm hoping more for my list but... They are going to give Krang, Bebop and Rocksteady solo movies... Quote:

While a movie about Shredder is the most obvious, They can also do a movie about Bebop and Rocksteady, How a pair of wannabee street thugs became a rhino and warthog. These movies can work as interconnected stories. |
Also I doubt the movies based on the villains will be real full-length movies. They probably mean something like 40 minute specials at most. Obviously a villain isn't going to get an hour and a half movie, especially if they make multiple of them like they say they are.
|
I’d think they will be more around the hour to an hour and a half range personally. If they were only 40 minutes it would be a series of specials rather than movies.
|
Remember that we are also getting a new live action TMNT movie that they announced about a year or so ago, And with the news of these villain movies, It will probably be related to that new live action movie.

It's not like it would be too incredibly trailblazing to have a smart character not have to fit into this one visual representation. I mean, if in the 90s they could make Rhinox look like this: Attachment 13279 I think we can handle a tech guy having some visual complexity. |
Think if we complain they'll change the look like what happened with that Sonic film?
I like both but is it really that much harder to make turtles compared to a hedgehog? I wish they'd already give us an release date for that Rise movie. |

is it safe to assume the live action movie has been scrapped?
