New reissue figures found
I stopped by one of the local Target stores here and ran across something odd and unexpected, new single carded reissue figures. I found Splinter, Shredder, Krang, Bebop & Rocksteady. But the cards also show Leatherhead, Foot Soldier and the storage shell Turtles.
These had an odd sticker added to the top right corner of the back of the card, so I don't think they were normal inventory. But I would have to expect more of them to show up soon. BTW, they rang up as $12 each. http://www.tmnttoys.com/23figures/reissues/8261.jpg http://www.tmnttoys.com/23figures/reissues/8260.jpg |
I hope these come to the UK, especially the Storage Shell Turtles - they usually have the classic figures in Toymaster and on Amazon eventually.

$12 sounds like a steal of a deal, seems like anything with movable arms is at least $20 these days.
|
That Bebop is horribly painted, it looks like a very bad bootleg. I wouldn't pay more than $1 for that junk.

I know the original supposedly had a lighter colored head (why?), but this is even a more jarring, unless it's just the camera flash giving it more contrast.
Cool to see more might be released out there somewhere. Though I've still never seen any in person, not even the Turtles. |
Playmates seems to be trying to keep the prices on the reissues low. And unfortunately the paint applications seem to be the first to go. But this is pretty much the same as all the Bebop reissues that we've gotten in the last decade.
|
Not that my 7 year old mind was capable of it, but who would have thought, back in 1989, that they'd be buying the same figure in basically the same package, more than 30 years later?
I bought my Bebop, which was one of the earliest figures I ever got (my first was Rocksteady, followed by Donatello), at Hills for $2.50. Kind of neat to see this, but I have the 25th anniversary rerelease and definitely will not be purchasing more new old figures. |
I really wish that General Traag and Casey Jones would get re-releases.

For comparison, here's what the original figure looked like: https://i.pinimg.com/originals/c9/50...7439d435d4.jpg |
Awesome! I had been praying for re releases of the Storage Shell turtles. Always liked those better back in the day. And I agree that Casey would be a welcome addition to the classic collection.
|
The appeal of these is of course the original card art on front and the character bio on back. Like the Turtles from Walmart which *additionally* were soft heads to boot, we have never gotten modern reissues with original per-character card art. Despite the fact that I have already bought several reissues of these guys, including in the recent mutant module box set, the card art may well compel me to buy them yet again...
|
I think the original Bebops with the lighter face were soft heads. I think the soft plastic gave them the look. But maybe I'm wrong. Mine was later released that had
|
The storage shell turtles on the cardback appear to have similar issues to the reissued movie star turtles. Reuse of arms and legs instead of unique sculpts. See Mikey as he appears to have two flat feet and the wrong forearm. Hard to tell on the other 3 turtles
|
I really like these for the cards and would like to get them but I don't feel like hunting for months. They're already all-over eBay for ridiculous prices. Hopefully they'll be available online soon. I can't find them on the Target website or Brickseek yet. If you guys have any tips on how to get these somewhat easy I'd appreciate it.

Jumbo Raph Leo and Donny are getting reissues and Mikey will be in wave 2 https://i.imgur.com/xaKSgmQ.jpg https://i.imgur.com/m0pcAGF.jpg https://i.imgur.com/GRWfRwJ.jpg Here are the Storage Shell Turtles https://i.imgur.com/vvz75NA.jpg https://i.imgur.com/YtgCJ2g.jpg https://i.imgur.com/fwIzDYA.jpg https://i.imgur.com/5zT4YxR.jpg |
I saw a set of the Storage Shell TMNTs yesterday, minus Mikey. Kinda warmed my heart. (Except was Donnie's purple always that dark?? I'd have gotten him but man he looked drab compared to the vibrant others.)
|
I wonder why they changed all the head designs for everyone excluding Raph

Leo is missing the grappling hook.
Other stuff could be different or missing: https://www.tmnttoys.com/91figures/storage/storage.html |
They've all got the same (wrong) pizza. But otherwise the storage shells look pretty great. Good job, Playmates. Keep the new reissues coming!
|
The Giant turtles reissues are significantly smaller than the original. And if you were wanting to use the belts from the new ones for the old ones (like myself) you can't. They're molded and a soft plastic, plus smaller.
|
Wish Playmates would jump on this Star Wars Micro Galaxy Squadron wave and redo Mini Mutants instead of this Not-Quite-Giant nonsense!

Walmart will be getting Pizza Tossing turtles reissues https://i.imgur.com/pUPDeq1.jpg |
I dig it. I have no interest in those but that's a somewhat deep cut, which makes me hopeful they'll keep digging into the more obscure stuff.
Basically, I'm still crossing my fingers hard for Scratch and Hot Spot. |
Look who came home with me! :D Only 3 on the shelf at Target, just one of each (minus Mikey who is late?), so couldn't help myself and got him.
They might not be quite the same as the originals (damn) and I especially really wish they kept the right held sculpts (and eyes) for them, but I never had my boy back in the day (think he was sold out and received second choice), so it's close enough! I haven't seen my original (Mikey) in ages, but I think those had soft belts, right? Were the figures a softer material as well? Think I also recall his nunchucks had rope between the handles? Vs the one pictured looks like plastic chain. https://i.imgur.com/clMCftQ.jpg |

Ah, I see. That is weird.
Well good thing I have the oldie someplace, because my Walmart sucks at this and he probably won't turn up anyhow. |

Awesome I definitely wanna get a full set of the storage shell turtles re-issues. Planning to use them for customs.
|
I know the giants are supposedly smaller than the originals? But don't have my oldie at hand to compare, and that probably looked bigger to me back then anyhow, so kinda hard to judge how big this is compared to back then.
But here's a size comparison with my biggest boy (ThreeZero Leo): Spoiler:
Talk about an evolution... |
The reason the new giant turtles don't look THAT accurate to the originals is because these seem to based more off the prototypes (on back of the original boxes) than the ACTUAL figures.

But now I just look at it all and think "cool, but no thanks". I think they are a bit late to market with this. Not only are some of us getting disinterested in accumulating more things the older we get, and some of us have already procured the originals, but the world of collecting post-pandemic has changed such that it is not at all worth my time and not fun anymore to imagine going around to infinite Targets/Walmarts trying to get any of it. |

Hey everybody. I made a review of the new Giant Leo and compared him to the original giant if you haven’t seen him yet.
https://youtu.be/jcucdXPjB3E I also made a review of storage shell Leo and a Mikey. Both are missing accessories, but Leo is pretty close to the original. Mikey has different arms and legs than he should. https://youtu.be/MOpJxyVQreQ |
Anyone know if the Walmart giant TMNT stock, esp the exclusive Mikey, was supposed to be hitting shelves around the same time as Target or if that won't be for a bit?
Probably a pipe dream to think my nearby Walmart will ever actually get them, but was considering getting one for my nephew, so hoping they might. Target is of course already wiped out, having had just the 3 on the shelf last week. Ebay looks like the jerk scalpers are at it again. I WISH they'd also reissue the original 2003 giant figures (and a legit identical reissue) with the anniversary of that show coming up! edit: I had checked my Target this afternoon just to see if they'd put out more or if either of Donnie or Raph was still there. Nothing as expected. But I had to laugh that there was a Last Ronin figure sitting on the top shelf roughly just above where those giant figures had been. Someone gave up a Ronin Mikey for Raph and/or Donnie reissues. |
