Favourite (and least) version of April?
I really like asking you guys questions because everyone always has something interesting to say! I think my legacy might be making threads with questions like these ^^;
The title says it all, what’s your favourite and least favourite version of April O’Neil? |
My least favorite are the two black ones, but for different reasons. Rise's April had a really annoying personality, the whole, "I'm large and in charge" personality and she beat up anyone who disagreed with her. She was like a bad stereotype of an angry black girl. I didn't like her VA either.
Mayhem's black April wasn't annoying, she was just kinda boring...and fat and ugly. I didn't really care for her at all. So far "black April" is 2 strikes out of 3, I don't know if we'll ever get a third black April but if that one isn't good either it's 3 strikes and you're out. |
I'll say the 4Kids version for favorite and Mutant Mayhem for least favorite.
|
My favorite will always be the OG 80's April.
Don't really have a least favorite, and I haven't seen Mutant Mayhem, nor do I plan to. Having April be fat and ugly, while also having a 'throwing up a lot' running gag sure as hell don't do her any favors. |
Well, looks like it's my turn to have the unpopular opinion.
My least favorite is Rise April. She just isn't April in the least. My favorite, and I stand by this, is 2012 April, because it's the only version that I feel maintained the Anchor of Normalacy role, while also reamaining interesting and having something active to do in the plot all the way until the end. Almost every other April ends up being kind of boring and most of the time ceases to be truly relevant after the initial arcs. |
My favorite is OG April
https://2.bp.blogspot.com/iY-5pm2UlO...6fW7R3iTnCW=s0 Least favorite, is the newest one https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/a3...e-to-width/755 they could've gotten away with her being Irma, but no way is that April. |
Agree that MM! April sucks, and it’s mainly due to her awful color scheme. At that point, with the rest of her design, fix up the color palette and… why not just use Irma? NGL Image April also stinky, as is the Baypril (low hangin’ fruit yeah).
|
Mirage April but I think the 2012 toon April was a good modern update/spin on her for a 'younger' April too.
I really liked MM and look forward to the new show and (maybe) sequel movie, but MM April is a travesty. At a certain point if you are going to change THAT much about a character, then just make an all new character. |
I'm not sure about favorite, it may be roughly a 3-way tie with 2003, 1990, and Mirage.
Least... Rise. I'm not fond of the trend of turning her into a same-age peer and making her THAT involved. I don't like that part any more on 2012 either. But Rise wins for worst because they really could have done better with her. If all you can come up with is making her obnoxious and yelling her own name as a battle cry... you can definitely do better with a little more effort. The genealogist in me doesn't care for the clash with a clearly very Irish last name...but try to look past that. With increasing representation being hot these days, not giving that to mixed race kids by at least making her an obvious black/Irish mix, so the surname still makes sense, was a lost opportunity. I suppose the same could be said of MM in that regard, but I at least give her more credit for being a good supporting character who helps out, but doesn't get too involve. (Then again, she did "accidentally" get a lighter skinned figure that makes her look mixed...) |

Well it can't be my fault if the two black April's turned out to be the worst incarnations so far. They could theoretically make a "good" black April at some point, but that remains to be seen.
|
My least favorite April is a three-way tie between Bay April, Rise April, and MM April. All 3 are terrible representations of April in my opinion. My favorite April is the one from the original cartoon. She was witty and not too overly involved.
|
2003 April is my favorite. Second favorite is 1987 April. Other than that, I think I like all the other Aprils the same so I don’t really have a least favorite.
|
My favorite is 4Kids April -- good homage to the original and a decent character overall. No overtly annoying traits. I would've picked Mirage April but... you know... that whole cockroach thing.
Least favorite? Honestly, I still haven't seen Mayhem yet and really can't judge Rise April since I only saw the pilot (though from what I've seen of her, she seems obnoxious). So, I'm going with Megan Fox. She just didn't seem right to me. I dunno. I don't think April should be a sex symbol and that's how she came off in those flicks. |
|
Last Ronin April is the leader of the resistance and raised a kid all on her own. I vote for her.

Probably Megan Fox April. Because there's nothing "April" about her - it's just Megan Fox doing her "AK-Ting" in a movie which basically just means Megan Fox shows up to prance around.
Not that I mind looking at her, but I'm just sayin'...... |

Honestly, she's so forgettable I didn't even think of her when considering my choices. Makes me cringe that she often starts her line delivery in those movies vaguely sounding like the opening of a porn scene. Girl, just stop.
|
I do like the Fred Wolf April, but she does get kidnapped all the time.

It's OK for women to be kidnapped in kids cartoons since they always get rescued unharmed.
|
Yeah, because that makes the messages behind it better.
|
Heroes need someone to save after all. The thing with 80's April is even though she got captured a lot, she was fearless and never hesitated to jump into dangerous situations, so it evens out. Besides that she was usually portrayed as very smart and knowledgeable, by most of the writers of the show anyway. I know she was never consistent but that's due to the show being written by so many different people over 10 seasons.
|
My favorite April is the one in the Red Sky seasons of the old cartoon. She didn't get captured as much as she did in previous seasons and she pretty much got a moment that made up for all those times being captured in the previous seasons (the season ten three-parter, where she got captured, but managed to free herself by outsmarting one of Dregg's batmen and then freeing the weakened Turtles and keeping them as safe as she could).
Least favorite would have to be a tie between the April from the 2014 and 2016 live-action movies and the Rise version. One is incredibly flat, the other just comes across as grating. |
My favourite April is the Fred Wolf April. By extension you can add the April of the 90s movies as well.
Why? Honestly, as a famous journalist, April seems way more useful and important to the Turtles than as a scientist or antique store owner. After a while, they just didn't know what else to do with her and she was just there. That doesn't happen when she's a journalist. Least favourite? Any April that came out after the Viacom sale, I guess. Not even her modern day journalist version in the Bay Turtles movies was good since Megan Fox was terrible in that role. |
Favorite: My favorite April is the 1990 one. She was willing to do what she could to expose the Foot Clan and show everyone what they were up to even if it costed April her job in the middle of the movie which she eventually got back in the end. I also like how she ticked off Chief Sterns and was unapologetic about it. Besides 1990 April, I also like the Mirage version, the 1987 version, and the 2003 version. Generally speaking, the best versions of April for me are the ones that are resourceful and also witty at the same time. I also like when April has great chemistry with the turtles and proves to be a great and helpful ally.
Least Favorite: My least favorite is the Megan Fox April because she doesn’t feel like April at all to me. It mainly has to do with Megan Fox’s emotionless acting, her performance, to say the least, wasn’t convincing at all and it doesn’t fit the character. Besides her, I don’t care for the Rise version or Mutant Mayhem version either. For the Rise version, I don’t like her disagreeable personality, and for the Mutant Mayhem version, I find her to be a boring character overall. |
