Amazon MGM Have 'Full Creative' Control Of The James Bond Franchise

Quote:

In news that will send shock waves through the industry, longtime James Bond producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli are relinquishing control of the beloved spy franchise and handing the reins to Amazon MGM Studios.

As part of the arrangement, Amazon and the producers have formed a new joint venture to house the Bond intellectual property rights, with Broccoli and Wilson remaining co-owners of the franchise.

Under the terms of the new venture, Amazon MGM Studios will gain creative control of 007. Financial details were not disclosed, but there is speculation that Broccoli and Wilson will have received a healthy payday from Amazon.

Shesus... this is horrible news. The latest news before this was that all Bond progress talks have stalled because Amazon kept talking about "new Bond Product™" and the Broccolis were aghast at this, on principle. They must have gotten paid a WHOP by Amazon.

Rings of Power, but James Bond.

They're asking people on social media who the new Bond should be

Pretty sure the Snyder fanbase is gonna bomb them with Cavil requests, especially after his audition tapes surfaced

Stu_Padasso 02-21-2025 01:36 AM

I have the Sean Connelly films on Blu Ray. Including The Rock. I’m good.

RIP. Well, he had a nice run. We'll always have the old films. If you haven't heard the banned commentaries for the first few films, they offer a fascinating look into a very different era of moviemaking.

This is going to be a real dog and pony show.

That's already a pretty terrible sign.

"Well... who do YOU guys want to be Bond?"

The British tabloids are already reporting Amazon's first project is a TV adaptation of the Miss Moneypenny Diaries series of books, with Florence Pugh in the lead role

Shesus... that's a much worst case scenario than I think anyone imagined.

The next Bond movie is going ahead, a director has been attached: Dune's Denis Villeneuve

Wonder how many people know that James Bond was created as a feelgoodism project in the wake of the Kim Philby spy scandal.

Amazon want an actor 'under 30'

The modern entertainment executive:
"BUY IT NOW! And build a "UNIVERSE" out of it, whatever it is! What's for sale? Build a Universe out of THAT!"

For Bond to work now, it has to be a period piece so you can run it parallel to any social or political upheaval that's present in the world.

Trying to base current missions on where we're going right now is impossible to predict and always comes off looking sillier than what's actually happening.

ZariusTwo 08-01-2025 05:13 AM

The next Bond film has a writer: Steven Knight, creator and head writer of Peaky Blinders

I think that's the weak way out. It would be better to show that no matter what is going on socially/politically, Bond is immune to that stuff. Trapping him in some era just weakens the brand.

ZariusTwo 11-07-2026 08:31 AM

Losing Pattinson to the Bond franchise would just be further proof Danhausen is directing The Batman Part II

Even though they told us they were only looking at Bonds in their 20s.
