I’m in! Hopefully it’s not a turd.

Man, between Justice League Infinity and THIS, J.M. DeMatteis has been a powerful force for comic cartoon revivals. (It probably helps that he contributed to both shows.)
|
Besides Morlun, the other new character appearing here that's never before seen in Spider-Man: TAS is...Kaine
This makes sense to follow up on, seeing as Warren did end up with Peter's DNA after MJ's clone died |
But when the shows come out do they acknowledge the comic continuations as canon? Did X-men '97 acknowledge the X-men comic cartoon revival stories at all? Or did they ignore them?

In retrospect, I feel really bad for the MJ clone, I know I supposed to but I think it was even sadder than it was likely intended to be. Part of me wishes that had gotten Warren to fix it, maybe she could have gone on to be a good counterpart to Hydro-Man...

So I am sure if this comic does well (it most likely will) we will get ongoing comic series
|
|
When they do stuff like this they really need to mimic the actual animated art style for years. It amazes me that the only book I've seen do this was the early issues of the new TMNT animated book.

Maybe it can be explained that Peter face change is because some physical changes is happening to him and if this comic series becomes ongoing they should return to how he looked in animated series and say he looked like this in this 4 issues is because he went though some physical changes, what do you guys think about this?

Interview with JMD, preview pages, and solicit for Issue 3
https://www.cbr.com/jm-dematteis-int...hqMbzZZp_Zpy3A Series isn't even going to resolve how Peter found MJ, it all takes place immediately afterwards. They say they'll resolve it some other time in the editorial notes. MJ proposes to Peter, but he's hesitant to answer, bringing up that he married her clone Also, Spoiler:

Ok, read the full thing now. The art actually does get better, the story is a bit all over the place, but in a fun way.

I know I'm late to the party, but I finally got to read this one and I bought issue 2 just this past weekend. It was fine, the main nitpicks were the art (mostly Peter Parker) and wishing they used a classic villain instead of Molten Man. Especially with the implication that Spider-Man had defeated him several times before. |

Thoughts on issue two. The comic sure likes to use the more obscure loser villains from Spider-Man's rogues gallery that never appeared on the show. |
Issue three was solid, Morlun's new origin is a lot easier to swallow than cosmic variant vampire.
Pity MJ isn't wearing a fetching nightdress like she was shown to wear in the cartoon, just a plain t-shirt. Does Kaine have the memories of Hydro Man and that's why he's got a crush on MJ? |

Finally caught up to this, right before issue 4 is out. Hopefully my email makes it next issue. Quote:

I mean there have to had been a sizeable time skip. Not only did it take Spider-Man some unknown amount of time to find MJ and bring her back... he also fought all-new villains to the point that it's become routine for him. We never seen him face Molten Man and those animal guys in the show, but by the time we see them in the comic he's already overly familiar with them and tired of dealing with them.
