Brendan Fraser & Rachel Weisz returning for 'The Mummy 4'
Sources are saying that both Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz, who declined to come back for the third film, are both in talks to return a fourth installment. It will be directed by Raddio Silence's Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillet. Fraser's career has gotten a revival thanks to his Oscar win. Weisz must like the script for this one if all goes well.

Well, why not.

This must be the most confusing IP to follow. The generic title not only makes me forget that the Brendan Fraser mummy movies are meant to be the same franchise as the Boris Karloff ones but also the Tom Cruise one, just different continuities. There is also an upcoming Mummy movie by New Line, which isn't this one but Wikipedia alleges is part of the Universal Mummy franchise. So there's going to be two upcoming movies in the same franchise but in different continuities around the same time? Weird.
On a side note, I know Universal also tends to lump all their monster movies into a single franchise as well, I just keep forgetting that too. It's kind of hard for me to keep that in mind when nearly all of them are based on public domain characters and the few who aren't are painfully generic. The Wolfman movies pretty much plays into every werewolf cliché you can imagine, I literally cannot think of anything about the Wolfman movies that stick out from any other werewolf movie. |
They could bring back most of the cast, if they wanted to. Evee's brother, Anucksonnamoon, Imhotep himself, the desert guy.
Definitely down. The "biggest" question, though, is... can Fraser get back into Mummy shape? Quote:

The last pic of Brendan Fraser I saw and he looked hideous. Man, he is going to really have to get back into shape. And if he doesn't have that old hairstyle anymore so he won't even look the same.

|
God he looks like Frankenstein. It looks like they brought him back for the wrong monster movie! He should of played Frakenstein instead.

Whenever someone tells me that the Boris Karloff Mummy and the Brendan Fraser Mummy are technically part of the same franchise as well as the Tom Cruise Mummy, I'm like "Oh yeah, I guess...". It's not so much that the trilogy of Brendan Fraser movies are hard to keep track of as their own thing or anything like that, it's more just the idea that Universal thinks it's worth classifying every movie they make featuring an undead mummy to be part of the same franchise or that New Line (allegedly) felt the need to even bother licensing the concept of an undead mummy movie. In all but the official statements from Universal, these are all basically a bunch of unrelated movies building on the same generic idea that a million other movies uses. The only concrete thing binding these movies together other than Universal and the title is said concept, under the same logic WB might as well classify Ready Player One and the Matrix as being part of the same franchise. |

I've never seen any mummy movie, not the 2000s ones, not the black and white ones or any. I remember The Scorpion King spin off being promoted when I used to watch WWF and looking at wikipedia it seems the scorpion king has like 5 movies and they're all prequels to the prequel or sequels to the prequel of the prequel, it seems rather confusing.
It's always funny when you check a random movie on wikipedia and you see they had like 10 sequels made for direct to dvd. I wonder who was buying those, obviously someone had to. |

It's also strange that in all of those million Scorpion King movies they never really gave people the one thing they wanted to see in the original Scorpion King movie: what led up to the events with him in the of the opening of The Mummy Returns. Where he's kind of evil and a conqueror. |
The Scorpion King, the one with The Rock, aired so often on Portuguese TV back in the 2000s and early 2010s. It's probably the most often aired movie on TV here alongside Jackie Chan movies and, of course, the most popular Portuguese movies.
...yet, I've never seen it. I doubt I'm missing out on much. I liked The Rock in The Rundown, but Doom was lousy and so was Planet 51. Red Notice also wasn't anything special other than Gal Gadot being very easy on the eyes. Honestly, it's quite disappointing how boring of an actor The Rock is compared to his wrestling character. Batista is a much better actor than The Rock is. |
And I remember hearing this on the radio all the time back then:
|
One of the most depressing things about the current world we live in is how rock and metal lost so much mainstream popularity and every popular song nowadays sounds like the same generic and sterile pop/rnb/hip-hop track.

I wonder if it’ll be the Mayan story they drafted way back in the day

I guess they kind of need to bring the son back from Mummy 3, right? But would they bring back Luke Ford? The guy is like 45 years old now. I mean, he was already too old for the role 20 years ago THEN but now? And if I recall he's the reason Weisz turned down Mummy 3 -- because it'd mean it would make it like she was old enough to have a 25 year-old son and she didn't like that. Quote:

The Mummy movies were kind of written like Buffy the Vampire Slayer where they were both serious and funny at the same time, and it knew how to be a fun adventure movie. But without getting too cheesy or self aware like modern Marvel movies. If they can recapture the old magic of the writing from back then this could be good.
I don't know what it was, but Mummy 1 and 2 are just feel good adventure movies and fun to watch. I rewatch them every couple of years. They're like Back to the Future or Star Wars in that they never get old. |
And the Mummy 3 didn't connect with people in the same way. Was it just the lack of Weisz? A big part, yeah, but I'm betting the people writing the checks for Mummy 4 are going to want to see Imhotep back, too.
|
|
I guess they are positioning him as a modern "Sallah". Which is cool, although the Mummy flicks don't really hold a candle to Indiana Jones.

KOTCS is no more or less ridiculous than to either of the two good Mummy movies. Obviously Dial of Disaster is a different story altogether. |
Brendan Fraser said this script is one he's wanted to be made into a film for 20 years.

They better get him on Jenny Craig and get his old hair style back. The weird buzzed down look he has now doesn't suit his character. His old hair style was like Leon from the Resident Evil series. He needs that back.
|
Pretty sure they can just give him a hairpiece to look like he did in the old movies. They pretty much have to at this point. Maybe with a dash of gray now. But yeah, he's gotta lean up quick. Mummy 4 is pretty damn good motivation, though.
|
I remember back then I wish they made a Resident Evil movie with him cast as Leon. Resident Evil 2 came out in 1998, just 1 year before the first Mummy movie in 1999. If they made proper Resident Evil films covering the games back then instead of the ones they made, he would have been the perfect casting choice for Leon in the early 2000's.
|
Worst case... here is Fraser with hair powder in place. Knowing he's about to do Mummy 4.
|
The film is scheduled for release in May 2028. Fraser and Weisz have completed deals to return.

Pretty much it'll be the whole cast from Mummy 1 and 2 with a big "who knows" about who will play the son now. Evie's brother, Odeh Fehr, they'll all be back. I'm a LITTLE skeptical if they'd bring back Patricia Velasquez, the Venezuelan lesbian who played Anucksunamoon, as it'd be hard to reconcile her into anything after Mummy 2 with how the character left things with Imhotep. Also, the actress has aged about as well as the Vasquez actress from Aliens.
I'm telling ya. This will be a big, everybody unites (Rick and family with Imhotep) to take on some new dark god/goddess. |
I really hope they slim him back into shape. In the youtube video above which is fairly recent he still looks like Frakenstein. I know he can't look like he did 25 years ago but they can try to get close.
|
He'll have plenty of time. He's probably already on Ozempic. And he won't need a TON of muscle, he just can't be skin and bones.
|
He hasn't aged really well, but then my mind goes to Shatner in that new Superbowl commercial. It looks like he lost 75lbs for that at 90 years old, or bare minimum they gave him something to reduce water retention....
If they got Shat looking like that again they can do pretty well with Brendan between real-life and "camera" tricks. |
The directors of the film said that Fraser and Weisz wouldn't have returned if they didn't love the script. They also say the fact that Weisz is in this one most likely means the third film isn't canon.
https://variety.com/2026/film/news/t...pt-1236677162/ |
I don't see any reason for the third not to be canon. Actors get recast from time to time, doesn't mean the story didn't happen.
|
Yeah, meaningless. They already had a little boy named Jack in Mummy Returns, so unless they add a line in Mummy 4 about, "Jack died and never made it to his 20th birthday!" then of course Mummy 3 happened. There's nothing in 3 that flies in the face of anything, and no one dies.
