Is this GT canon or Daima canon?

CyberCubed 01-24-2026 09:42 PM

It's the next Super arc from the manga they didn't adapt yet, the Moro arc. Super has two manga arcs that didn't get anime adaptions yet, so this is the next one.

neatoman 01-25-2026 01:26 AM

It's not that weird that they've decided to finally adapt this story arc. What's weird is what's leading up to it.

They will remaster the Beerus arc, as in taking the old animation and improving it, kinda like they did with Kai and even doing the same "cut the chaff" thing, specifically they're going to cut the Beerus arc (fourteen or eighteen depending on how you count) down to six. Though they're not just remastering in higher quality, they seem to be updating the animation itself (something they already did with the blu-ray release) and will be including bits from the manga version, the specific bit mentioned is Goku's training break at the start will now include him imagining fighting old enemies like he did in the manga.

It does open up some questions here. Why they're doing this instead of just starting with the Galactic Patrol thing? Exactly how much stuff will be cut going forward? Why not animate this stuff from scratch if it's going to be so much shorter and include new material anyway? Are they going to do this all year round or a seasonal thing? If they continue to do this with the rest of the arcs, will the Broly and Super Hero arcs use animation from the movies despite the difference in art direction? Why even bother with shortening this arc when BoG and RoF already tell more compact versions of the first two arcs in Super?

Most importantly though, the manga version is straight up incomplete as of writing this, Freeza is now officially much more powerful than the heroes and we still have no conclusion to this. Are they going to allow the manga to continue before proceeding to that or are they just going to make their own conclusion to it?

My best guess is that they need time to animate the new arcs and are a bit worried there might not be any hype if the audience needs to wait another year, so this is just the fastest and/or cheapest way they can produce a prelude.

Oh, and here's a trailer:

CyberCubed 01-25-2026 09:46 AM

We're going to have 3 different anime versions of Beerus coming to Earth and the Super Saiyan God story. And the animation will still likely look worse than the 2013 movie.

sdp 01-25-2026 02:48 PM

I need some Dragon Ball help to understand what's happening.

What exactly was Dragon Ball Kai? I thought it was only a 'remaster' of the old anime cutting out the filler, it changed the music to new music and then changed it back to the original after plagiarism and got a new dub. but did it also animate new stuff? huh? is that real?

And the Beerus movie I originally thought it'd be a remake of the movie, but it's apparently a remake of the anime adaptation of the movie cut down in episode numbers but also adding scenes from the manga adaptation of the movie that wasn't in either of the two anime adaptations?

So is Kai like the beerus movie were they reanimate some scenes but not others? What scenes were reanimated? This will annoy me to no end

There are some reanimated scenes in Kai. And while I haven’t seen the show itseld, you can find some screen shots online. Gotta keep in mind that the original film of DBZ hasn’t been kept well. It’s one of the reasons many people hates majority of the home releases (outside of like Dragonbox) and the recent fan project “Seed of Might” remasters are so praised.

But yeah, right now we don’t know what “Beerus” is gonna incoporate other than just a “reanimated” version, I have seen some people hoping it could incoporate some Daima stuff.

sdp 01-25-2026 07:00 PM

Thanks, now, explain Dragon Ball Super to me. I remember reading that the manga and anime were both doing their own thing. Manga wasn't adapting stuff from the anime and viceversa. With the arcs they did both do still having minor differences or in the case of the tournament of power big differences.

Super manga continued and has that stupid black Freeza arc where it stopped. So that's basically what they'll be adapting next?

Allio 01-25-2026 07:06 PM

More or less you have essentially

->Battle of Gods (movie/anime/manga/Beerus) -> Resurrection F (movie anime) -> 6vs 7 (anime/manga) -> Goku Black (Anime/manga) -> Tournament of Power -> (anime/manga) -> Broly (movie) > Galactic Patrol (anime/manga) -> Granolah (manga) -> Superhero anime/ Superhero manga version

My understanding, Toriyama did a layout of the arcs, but Toei/Toyataro were in charge of getting to point A to Point B

oldmanwinters 01-25-2026 07:18 PM

Man, this franchise will never conclude, will it? I read somewhere Japan’s economy depends on continuing Dragonball animation projects. Perhaps a bit hyperbolic, but… so is the Time Chamber in Kami’s Lookout!

sdp 01-25-2026 07:26 PM

Well I mean Dragon Ball did end in 1996. These are just glorified spin-offs. They don't even fit cleanly in continuity counting they take place before that last scene in the DBZ manga.

Just barely. Mostly redrawing certain frames that were too old to survive the HD process and whatnot. There aren't any actual new scenes or anything.

Kai is pretty much DBZ with the filler removed and cleaned up visuals.

Super is the 'let's pretend GT never happened' sequel to Z that takes place between the defeat of Buu and the timeskip.

The manga was made sometime later than the anime, so it wasn't until the Goku Black arc where the major differences between the two hit.

The anime ended with the Tournament of Power but the manga continued with 2 new arcs that both involve Goku and Vegeta working alongside the Galactic Patrol. Given that the new series is called Galactic Patrol, it's clear they're gonna animate the Moro and Granolah arcs, and possibly a filler arc or two to expand the episode count.

It's still too soon to see if Daima is canon to anything. The Super manga tends to make everything fit. For a while there people had doubts that the Super Hero movie fit anywhere and the manga somehow did so. I wouldn't be surprised if whenever they do the next arc, Glorio and Panzy somehow come back and they have some sort of asspull explanation to why Vegeta never used SS3 and Goku never used SS4.

neatoman 01-28-2026 09:11 AM

So Majin Boo's voice actor just died. Considering that Boo will be a major character in this, they'll have to recast him.

CyberCubed 01-28-2026 02:53 PM

Half the old cast was already replaced. Yamcha's VA also got fired for raping a woman so he will be recast as well.

DB aired 40 years ago so all the actors are old as hell. They really need to recast them all once Goku's Japanese VA dies. That's probably what they're waiting for before they do a full new cast.

sdp 01-28-2026 03:35 PM

It's so silly how all these stories are supposed to happen before the final scene in DBZ. They all act like they haven't seen each other in ages and yet with all the stories they try to shove into this small time frame they ltierally just saw each other a few weeks ago and went 5 levels more of super saiyan.

The real one or the American one?

That is the biggest plot hole any of these sequels and specials and whatnot create. The fact that 'they haven't seen each other for years' when yeah, they did. All the time.

Probably not, at least after the Beerus adaption which is only 6 eps. But the entire Japanese cast is old as hell now (obviously it aired in the late 80's and early 90's), and as I said above half of them have already died and been recast.

neatoman 01-30-2026 03:32 AM

I already stated this but I think it might have been a bit buried in the other statements. It's strange that there hasn't been an announcement of the manga returning yet, even though it's confirmed that they will be adapting the arcs from it.

I mean what are they gonna do if it doesn't resume publication? Get to the end of Super Hero and just... Not go into detail about what Freeza will do now that he's seemingly stronger than everyone else?

CyberCubed 01-30-2026 05:19 AM

It'll be at least 5+ years out before they catch up with the manga. The Beerus arc isn't even coming till later this year, then they have to do another adaption of the Freeza movie, then the Universe 6 arc, then Zamasu, then the Tournament of Power. Then the anime version of Moro and Gas arc, then probably adapt the Broly and Gohan/Superhero movie into episodes too.

All that could take 5+ years. So the next manga arc doesn't even need to rush.

Where'd you get 5+ years from? It's already been confirmed that the Beerus recut/remaster will air in autumn this year and the Galactic Patrol arc will air sometime next year. Even if we assume it won't air until December 2027, I seriously doubt it'll take them until late 2031 to reach the end of Super Hero, not if it's going to take them a mere six episodes per arc or so and certainly not if it's going to at most take them up to 16 months at most (probably closer to 10 months) to get to where Broly ended. And keep in mind, the manga probably won't move to a weekly schedule, so it's not like the risk of it slipping behind again isn't there.

Coola Yagami 01-30-2026 07:40 AM

We're only assuming they're going to go back and remake every saga. So far only the Beerus arc has been announced and it looks like Galactic Patrol is going to happen regardless of anything else.

sdp 01-30-2026 09:14 AM

Well the Beerus arc is the one that was made fun the most for being so cheaply animated, that's probably why it was chosen + a way to have a product out before the new show. They want to sell new toys and video game content so they'll want to start adapting the manga. I guess if the beerus arc is very successful or they catch up to the manga they'll have to redo the other arcs but only then.

No its already been confirmed Return of F is also happening but it'll only be 6 episodes. So there's no reason for them to stop, the whole point is to re-do Super with "good animation," or at least one the level Daima had.

I also just can't see the Moro arc happening until all of Super is re-animated.

sdp 01-30-2026 04:45 PM

Is it really that badly animated? I don't know the completionist in me will still want to see the original super just so I don't "miss" anything. This is the same reason I'll never watch Kai.
If I want manga accuracy, I'll read the manga.

CyberCubed 01-30-2026 06:04 PM

Early Super is infamously known for horrible animation. I don't know what they were doing. The animation improved a bit as we got into the Universe 6 tournament, and then actually got good during the Zamasu/Goku Black arc, and the Tournament of Power was really well animated for the most part.

But the first 30-40 eps of Super literally look awful, outside the occasional decent ep. No wonder they want to re-do them.

ranger_scout 02-12-2026 06:22 PM

Chris Sabat says he wants to return from the series. However, there's a possibility that might be retiring from the role of Vegeta, but he doesn't know yet.

Quote:

"I mean, I'm here. It would be a shame not to actually continue voicing Super since I'm right here and able to do it, but time will tell,” Sabat says in a conversation timed to the 40th anniversary of Dragon Ball Z (more on that in another article soon). “I'm assuming they would use us. But again, I'm good. I have done this character for 25 years. It's crazy, and I am super grateful to have been working on it as long as I have. So if there ever comes a time when it changes, I'll be sad because I would like to see Super through, but I'll understand."

Sabat has voiced the character for a quarter of a century, and although he loves Vegeta, he would bow out gracefully if he felt he was no longer up to the task.

“If it ever came to that, sure,” he says. “I would do everything I could to try and voice him, but look, it hurts a lot more than it ever used to. It doesn't just hurt my throat. It hurts my back and my shoulders because you tense all your muscles.”

So it looks like Goku will still do Blue Kaioken. Can't really blame them, this is reusing animation after all, so of course they're not gonna have him try God against Hit instead.

Most of the art duties were being devoted to the new (at the time) Broly movie.

I mean up to him. Sucks for the dub fans but for me the real Vegeta voice will be the original Ryo Horikawa.

CyberCubed 09-05-2026 04:51 PM

They aren't going to change anything writing wise, they're just updating the first 3 Super arcs with good animation to make up for how horrible Super looked back in 2015 (blows my mind it was over a decade ago already).

What I wonder is if they're going to use some elements of the movies, like Piccolo doesn't die in the movie version of Freeza but he dies in the anime version, so it makes no sense. And then you have Trunks/Goten there and Ginyu comes back and switches bodies from the frog to the new Freeza henchmen and Vegeta kills him. Will that even be kept?

Funny story. For whatever reason they used different actors for the Kai dub and that caused major backlash. Luckily, when they got to Super, they brought back Rene, Mario and the rest.

It’s so weird we’re doing the whole darn thing… again.

When it’s already been done more than once!

CyberCubed 09-06-2026 12:38 PM

It's a shame the writing flaws won't be able to be fixed. Like Piccolo struggling with Freeza's henchmen. At least the anime version showed Goku power down to base form before Freeza's laser shot him through the chest, hopefully that will be kept in this version too unlike the movie.

sdp 09-06-2026 12:46 PM

This is just stupid as now it feels like those video games that have a bunch of remakes but none can be seen as a true definitive version.

The original movie looks the best. The original Super has more stuff and better fits the world of super that comes after it. This version won't look as good as the movie and will also be missing some of the extra scenes the original airing had.

I was right, and to make things worse, this remake does improve some stuff so in a way it's the better way to see super, but it cuts some stuff that it just makes some scenes not make sense without the context. It also has its own filler so it's not even filler free. So yes, we now have 3 different ways to watch the same thing and they all have pros and cons, no definitive version.

Coola Yagami 10-17-2026 06:48 PM

They did add in the extra scenes of Goku imagining himself fighting with Freeza, Cell and Buu from the manga.

neatoman 10-17-2026 08:32 PM

They also made a really weird change as well. Remember those little cavemen guys Beerus destroyed? For some reason they felt the need to redesign them from having four arms and eyes to have two arms and eyes, I do not see the point of that.
