https://aiptcomics.com/2026/06/02/tm...dw-the-hunger/
So... a new one shot has been annouced, it is related to the upcoming "The City That Never Dies" arc. It looks like they're setting up a big event. Spoiler:
I hope they get creative ! |

Idk, but didn't Casey also has a good reason to be one of the main character of this book?
Since Hun appears as an undead, does that mean that Splinter and Tang Shen are actually like that as well? |
I hope it's just a one and done zombie deal
|
Huh... I kinda expected him to come back from the dead eventually, just not as a zombie...
... Can we get a Thriller themed alt cover? |
I don't get why IDW has to bring everyone back to life though, like with Shredder it's kinda expected (Shredder always either comes back to life at least once in every incarnation after being defeated, or makes some sort of return), but everyone else?
I mean they just killed Krang a second time, let's hope these deaths "stick." |

Yeah, nobody really intends for deaths to be permanent in comics like these. It pretty much just happens when a character is really unpopular or minor... And even then... Well, remember how a random Spider-Man clone from the 70's died in his first issue, was then brought back in the 90's for one of the infamous arcs of the series which ended with him dying again, only to come back 20 years later and die three more times before remaining alive?
Just be happy this it isn't that silly... Yet... |

We can pretty much expect anything to be on the table, like a reboot. For better or for worst ! |
For some reason, I will probably not surprised they bring Bishop back in the future. Let's hope this is just a clone or he had his consciousness copied into a robot beforehand.
|
“Ace reporter, Vernon Fenwick?! B-but, everyone saw you die on television!”
“Hue-hue! Reports of my death were highly exaggerated.” |

Hun puns. What will they think of next?
|
I gotta be honest: I didn't think Hun's death was going to stick, even way back. Though I started to doubt that with the Battle Nexus - and then they slap this in my face, lol.

So what to expect ?
The story is from Paul Allor who participated in the writing of : - Shredder Micro - Utrom Empire mini - Turtles in time mini Issue 1 (Cretaceous Period) - Mutanimals mini - Universe : The War to Come arc (the story that introduces Zodi, where the turtles are caught between Stockman, Null and the EPF) As well as Lost Causes arc (where Donatello deals with the tension on Burnow Island between Utroms and Triceratons). - Dimension X mini : Issue 1 (adventure on the planet where emotions surpass physical laws) - The Armageddon game the alliance : Issue 5 the April vs Null story - Mutant Nation : Issue 5 the Pepperoni on the side story - Battle Nexus mini : mainly focused on the Mirage Shredder VS Leonardo issue (but it isn't clear who decided what in the Battle Nexus storyboard, did he submit ideas for Ninjara and Slash ?) He also wrote the IDW 20/20 story as well the Street fighter crossover. I did enjoy most of his stories but not all, I wonder how he'll manage Hun... The art is from Gavin Smith who drew : - The Damage Done story arc from Vol.1 (Turtles, Alopex, Venus and co Vs Dr. Barlow, Leatherhead, Dirtchuck and Night Terrors). I think Gavin is fitting for an undead story. |

So... was Hun chillin in some bar in purgatory, saw a portal and just walked through?

Wonder if the veil was broken or if he was called for Karai and Backster's army |
There is one of a black guy zombie. I wonder if his is IDW Xever Montes.

Seriously though, I think that's just a generic Purple Dragon, we can see most of them have the dragon symbol. I think we might have seen him in a previous issue. |

It's a play on "Do you think all black guys look alike?". There's not much reason to assume this character is Xever and if he is then that would mean his first appearance is after he already died, which is something I doubt anyone would decide is a good idea unless they dislike the character. Xever is however really just a character who was pretty much just created to be turned into cyborg fishman, meaning he's way more recognisable as Fishface and some people may forget what his human form looked like in the first place. So since Xever's fish form is mainly what he's known for looking like and since that's the form he'd most likely take if anyone ever cares to reintroduce him, the joke is really just that this random background character would look like a fish by drawing that comparison. That's really just it. |
|
Not surprising that Hun is ultimately an irredeemable person. I wonder if these old Purple Dragons will go to hell or other worse place if they die again.
|
When did Allor start going by "Pallie"? I don't think I've ever heard of that as an actual name, just as a cutesy variation of "Pal" similar to "Hey there, Pallie!".
Anyway, I guess Hun is back now and that he really does not like unfair killing? |

Nice issue if you care about the 3 main characters, but really is an appetizer to the City That Never Dies arc.

Not fond of the idea of every major character who died coming back to life, this isn't Dragon Ball Z. But I hope most of it is temporary and ends with the next arc. Slash can stay alive though.
|
Would have been fun to see these two find an apartment in mutant town and living like the odd couple.

This wasn't very good or memorable. Other than that god awful Street Fighter crossover, I've always liked Allor well enough. Perhaps they were handicapped by the scope of this story, since it mostly comes off as "hey, let's check in with these 3 characters before they appear in the ongoing soon".
Although, the dialogue was pretty atrocious. These are supposed to be hardened criminals, but they're going around saying stuff like "keep the tax, Buster!", "we're both hit, you beautiful bonehead!", "get away!" and a couple other weird lines. I also don't like the concept of the Purple Dragon's existing during Prohibition-era America. They're clearly an 80's NYC thing straight out of The Warriors. I don't see them going back to the 1920's. I also thought it was weird to misdirect us from the conflict of Slash vs. Hun. They have a very brief dust up, then never cross paths again. Delgado is always on fire and I did think Gavin Smith was a great choice for this kind of story. I didn't care for his stint on the ongoing a while back. Something about his art is very unsettling, but lacking the charm of say Pablo Tunica. But he was the perfect fit for this creepy "zombie" story. Quote:
Was that Chun who got beat up by Slash when he interfered with the mugging? |
