If a banned user returns with an alternate account, without doing any harm or violations, I think we should let it go.

On every forum I've ever been on, banned users coming back circumventing with a new account is considered against the rules and they get banned again. Especially if you get permabanned.

People get banned for a reason. This site has temporary bans that work as you describe, but it's for lesser offenses. I've agreed with almost every ban to date, despite them being done by a variety of different mods.

Most of the people who DO ban evade, are the very ones who ruined this poor forum years ago. I need not mention names, most of you know already. We should just let them mingle? Nah.

Yet another one that Im surprised took so long to get the boot.

Biggest surprise for me after longing in after a year. He’d been around so long.

I just can't wrap my head around that. Sumac had opinions, but that kind of interaction - super fixated and super obtuse and so on - was never really his thing.

Sumac has an account on Dtf.ru under Shadowsumac where he posts in Russian. After Deception was banned, he was online trying to get back in as you can see under 'who's online'.

At the exact same time, I opened Sumac's profile in Dtf.Ru and he was online there too.

That was obviously Sumac. I wish he'd have been stealthier about it... I do miss his posts.

I asked about this in the other thread but it's interesting how people can have a completely different perception of things. To me, being an aggressive jerk was basically all Sumac was about.

I think these evaluations are usually through the lens of who is upfront-amicable to you and who isn't. If you feel that someone is confrontational with you from the get-go then that's the end of that.

There are a couple of people here who started that way with me here years ago; and so there was no respect earned or lost in those cases. Just "instant Drome-$#!(bag" in my opinion - borderline "irredeemable".

Also, I could be misremembering his "aggression" I suppose. I have some apathetic selective memory about much of what goes on in these boards. Although I'd prefer to see them thrive.

OK, fine. I see no reason why this wouldn't just be a 2 week or month ban. He said some things that I sure wouldn't say. But you're talking about a guy who's been here for over 20 years. Let the court of popular opinion shun him and so on... not you. It's not like you're protecting young minds here anymore. We're all old people. Though I know my German friends do take a big stance on stuff because who knows why.

Seeing the Drome veteran membership steadily diminish this decade has been a study of mine the last few months. Usually I find it all begins to happen just after the 2016 election, during Covid (which is always the worrying part) or during or after the '24 election.

I think there should be a wide-spread ban on political discussion, it's driven, I feel, most of the good people away or changed members for the worse. I've gone from trying to see the pros and cons of both sides to just seeing the world game for what it is and walking away from it.

Some just don't get to have 20 year runs on forums, as some forums simply don't last that long, it becomes something of a second home to you, and sometimes you can perceive it to be a refuge also....but this is a very divided house nowadays that invites a lot of talk that is just...unbecoming of the values that the FW TMNT at the very least, which this forum was named after, instilled in us at a young age

Wouldn’t hurt my feelings. There’s not that many of us and I could tell you precisely what each and every regular poster would likely say about any given news article without even asking them, so it’s all pretty boring. I’ve never seen anyone change their mind as a result of a debate here.

My real instinct is to let the GD section be a free-for-all and let the chips fall how they may. But if we’re not going to do that, then I agree. Ban all political crap. I don’t really care for gray areas.

i think there's a real fine line between discourse about immigration and overwhelming-cultural-destruction, cultural-adhesion, etc & "racism". And that nuance is lost on a lot of people. Vegita-San would try to make nationalist-points, points of cultural maintenance, etc. But if you can't frame it correctly, or stick by your guns appropriately, then it devolves into "racism".

When you make a point and leave yourself open to the fool's perspective then you are living the classic George Carlin line - "never argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience". I guess the real question here is "does the guy deserve a permanent ban from a place he's been supporting for decades"? I don't know... I'm just putting it out there. If it was me doing the modding here, I'd have hit him with a "What the f', dude?" and maybe two weeks in the hole.

No politics is for the best which is why it's even a rule even if unenforced. I actually don't care except when it spills over to threads in other sections.
Granted it's sometimes impossible to not bring up some Identity politics stuff in certain media but as long as it doesn't take over threadis the fine line I think.

I liked Vegitas original creations, but I do think the meltdowns he used to have particularly against women were ban worthy :tlol:

Does anyone remember what it was like when we tried to ban political discussions completely in 2019? It meant that any comment on Trump, Russia or 'wokeness' were deleted. Andrew got a temp ban once. It's silly.

Like sdp said, as "wokeness" and its like creeped more and more into the arts which the left seemed to militarize for their Message™ there really wasn't any NOT talking about it. Or if so, it'd be blatantly ignoring the elephant in the room. Every room, just about. And the thought of just sitting there quietly letting them do it and pretending everything is fine and dandy is pretty upsetting, because that's exactly what they hope we'll do.

2019? Way before that. Political threads were forbidden for a long time here. They were not allowed around 2009-2015 or so. When I joined in 2009, such discussions were restricted to the defunct Volcanic Asteroid.

I remember you banning Andrew for a week or so for making a political thread around 2017 when you momentarily came back to the forums.

That's why Current Events, for years, was just one big obituary forum.

Was Vegita-san's ban permanent? Usually, forums/online communities don't forgive when it comes to banning people for saying racist stuff.

And this concept is the exact reason that we took a very confrontational, hard-nosed stance against low emotional-intelligence or against the assumptive-trap-arguments several years back.

Some people here like to go on about how the "board lost good members who didn't want to deal with xyz anymore" but the truth is that when you argue the socio-political environment by arbitrarily calling people "misogynists" or "racists" we don't need you. Just as much as we don't need the people who can't articulate their 'nationalist" perspective well enough to make the point valid rather than an "ism".

Basically, people can talk politics just fine when they aren't a peasant-thinker. Don't ban the political discourse and instead take a stand against the clown-world.
