Tales of the TMNT vol.2 #1 (Spoilers)
Well, even though it wasn't on Diamond's list, it came out today. I haven't read it yet though.
Edit: *Spoilers* Read it now,I thought it was pretty good. This one had a very unique tone to it, but then showing the Turtles at age 12 kind of requires that. I'm kind of surprised they never went back to check on those worm creatures again. If I were Don I'd be curious enough to go back and visit that area, and to find out if they survived or not. Quote:
There's no way the tiny little comic shop here was the only one that got it, so surely someone else here has seen it? There were only two copies here, but then that's all they ever get of the Mirage books(one to hold for me, one for the shelf). My thoughts on it in the last post should give enough story details to confirm I actually read it anyway. The back cover has an ad for the new DVDs that just came out(Notes From the Underground and Shredder Strikes Back), and Don is the narrator/focus of this issue. I can give more details, but I don't really want to spoil the whole thing for anyone. |
The comic shop in my town got it in yesterday also. The guy called me 45 minutes before closing to tell me, so I hauled ass over there to make sure I picked it up before they closed.
This one is definitely worth getting. The Raph lines are great. He's such a smart ass. And Don is classic nerd! It's great. ****Spoiler Alert**** Favorite parts: Leo snatching the map from Mike and Don saying he's surprised that didn't happen sooner, and Raph telling Leo he was going to tell Splinter that Leo was cussing. Twelve?! Did you say TWELVE?!?! :o *must see pics* CURSE YOU, UNDEVELOPED COLLEGE TOWN THAT IS MY HOME!!! |
Yep, they're 12 in this one. It's the story of their first night away from Splinter.
|
But they don't really look any different than what they look like in the other comics. You can't tell they're young. Don is narrating the entire thing and tells us that the story happened when they were 12.
Apparently the guys were born in 1969, b/c this story takes place in 1981. Summer |

I haven't seen the issue in any online comic stores yet :( I hope I don't have to buy it from Ebay due to high shipping costs...
|
I've never seen much of the old mirage books but when did Raph start using sais instead of tonfas? Because in this other comic book someone mentioned in another thread ('comics you'd like to see as episodes' or something along those lines) the cover has Raph wielding tonfas and I remember someone saying he used them before switching to sai. I guess he must have switched sometime before he was 12
|
I can't believe that it's out and my comic shop doesn't have it? My guy keeps claiming that it's not out yet. He swears that he's gonna get it. Hmm..I'll give him until next week.
|
same story here - i'll bet it has something to do with Mirage being an independent publisher...
|
I just called one of my local comic book stores and asked about it, he said that books are published or released on the same day all over the world and it would be released the same day in what ever city its in. He said he always orders whatever is coming out from Mirage, I mentioned people on a message board have it, (he didnt realize there was a Tales of TMNT Vol 2. #1 coming out but it would be on order cause he does get anything published by mirage..) he basically said people on message boards are full of **** and dont have it. Although in many cases I can agree with him but it is possible that some comic book stores recieve shipments ahead of others especially if you are in Canada usually stuff is at least a day later or so for videogames and what not. Any way I cant wait to get it :)
|
The guy at the store I phoned also said that a small publisher is usually very lucky to get a book out on the release date, or something of that nature.
Could be why.... |

I wish I knew what to say about this issue not being everywhere. It really doesn't make sense. The only explanation I can think of is that since Diamond does have more than one distribution center they ship their products from, maybe Tales #1 didn't make it to all the distribution centers in time for last weeks shipment? |

summer, I was not implying that you or any one else did not have the comic I was just saying what the guy at a comic shop where I live told me. I didn't specifically say that I did not agree with him but I did say that stuff like this usually arrives late where I live. I know the comic will probably be out here on Monday or early next week. I never thought that anyone was not being truthful about having the comic I believe u guys. Although I did mention that I can agree with him that some people on the internet are "full of ****" I have seen a lot of that on video game message boards. He also sounded pissed off when he was talking to me about it, I am hoping to pick it up tomorrow. I didn't mean any offence, maybe I just didn't express what I was trying to say as good as I meant to.

I hope he gets it in for you soon, you're really going to like it. Summer |
People do tend to make things up online, though in this case I think it's fairly obvious that there's some distribution error that caused this to not ship everywhere the same week. I know it doesn't help my credibility that I'm new here(though I've been reading posts here for about a year now, I just recently decided to register).
Just to prove it, here's one line Spliner says in this issue: "No milk and cookies for you tonight, Raphael." There's no way I could make something like that up or guess that he says that, and once this issue gets better distribution you'll see it's in there. |
Or these lines:
Mike: Excavated? But...but by what? Dinosaurs? (probably heading into panic mode at this point) Raph: Yer mom. (smart a$$) Leo: Don't spook yourself, Mikey. (too late for that, Leo) |
It's out?!?! :o
I need to pick it up. |

:D I have GOT to get this issue!!! :D |
I believe you guys have it, no need to quote the book, any who it should be out here soon hopefully I can get it tomorrow.
I just started reading TMNT comics more a couple of months ago, I wasn't sure where to get them I only knew of one comic shop in town and they dont cary much. Although I looked in the phone book I found a couple shops. (why I did'nt earlier is beyond me) but I ordered Vol 4 1-12 and the official movie parody of TMNT "Green Grey Spounge Suit Sushi Turtles" which I already had but in poor condition. I got them in last Thursday so I have been able to read through them all weekend and enjoyed them a lot. (BTW I ordered them with the fourm on the official site) They sent me #13 and the Toys R Us comic thing free which I thought was really cool of them. I am almost on TMNT overload right now I guess. Its gonna be a shock to my system when I have to wait a month for the next issue of each comic lol, but its great timing 1 comic from Mirage per month with Tales of TMNT and Vol 4 to bad the Dream Wave comic was canned but it should be back eventually. |
Yeah, the folks at Mirage are really nice people. I've ordered quite a bit from them. They always shipped it really quick too.

My comic shop didn't have this last week either. When I mentioned that some already have the comic, he said that some shops and indepedent buyers who order the comics from the internet, get them earlier. Then those going by regular shipments (which he goes by) get the issues later. Hopefully this should clear up more of the fuzz.
And.. even though I haven't got the comic yet... my guess at why the TMNT have the classic headgear and weapons, is that Splinter intiated them to that level before senting them out on their own. Just so they are properly prepared n all. |
Man, at least you guys have intellegent comic store employees. I was talking to one at our store, and he had no idea that Tales was even coming out! D'OH!
Here's hoping the owner ordered it. |
The guy at my store said Thursday :) so dont have to wait to long.
On a side note in November I stood in line for Nickelback tickets for like 6 hours and was told they were sold out just when I got to the front door... Any they just said today that they are coming back in March and tickets go on sale this Saturday so I have to cancel my plans of going to a Minnesota and seeing a Montreal Canadiens, game against the Minnesota wild. Montreal is one of my fav hockey teams btw. Nickelback over a NHL hockey game... I think its worth it I had better get tickets this time, it will be an all nighter in line... |
I went to a different comic shop yesterday, and they didn't have it either. I did pick up the incentive cover to DW #1 for 5 bucks tho. :D

well
made a few calls this weekend to local comic shops here in texas and it comes out this wednessday with the rest of the other new comics.....
so I'll see what happens then. -Vaughn Michael EDIT: Finally it came out today it was amazing! I think its better then volume 4! Tales no. 1 is a must have for any turtle fan the art work is beautiful even if its lacking any shading or gray tones...the art is just great and the story beyond great! I must say i am sad to see that Jim Lawson will be drawing issue 2 ...wish Eric Talbot was drawing it alone his art is very nice but i guess it's all good because they will keep having different artists all the time....I give tales of TMNT v. 2 No. 1 an A+ Thought you all would enjoy to know issue #14 looks really good of volume 4 though can't wait to see how there gonna pull this mutated vampire raph thing off...and saw a preview for issue #15 tonight alsoit has don and the utroms fighting those dinos on the cover. -Vaughn Michael |
Weee.. yes, it is out! I couldn't wait to get it either. :D
Very cool read it was... I seem to like anything that deals with young TMNT too. And even more so, this comic was narrated by Don. The way he went into detail about stuff was just how I imagined him, and then they way Mike and Raph would tease him for being too "geek" at times was funny. Heck, the overall way in that they interacted was "cute". I could relate though, cause I was really into History, Sicence, and Nature shows on PBS when I was that age. :goofygri: Also liked the discovery of the "secret civilation" Reminded me of the FoxBox cartoon, Notes from the Underground. The art is great too, of course. The artist and story writer are names I don't recognize though. Makes me wonder if they are hosting guest artists on this series too. My only gripe... where did Don come up with 10-15 water filter things to give to the worm people? Seems odd they would be packing that many with them in all. |
I couldnt get my copy, the comic book guy said the truck broke down in nipigon, (small town in Ontario Canada) I think he said it will be in tomorrow...

I still wish this was in color I think it would have looked so much better this is really reminding me of the archie series which I liked allot! one thing also those fish face people....I wonder if they are the same ones from Volume 1 issue #28http://www.ninjaturtles.com/comics/m...8/28covers.jpg & volume 2 issue #5 http://www.ninjaturtles.com/comics/m...5/05covers.jpg I know they had legs and all in these future issues but perhaps they evolved or whatnot... -Vaughn Michael |
I finally got it today. It was pretty good. Although I must say that their views on evolution are quite screwy. This issue was kind of a cross between "Notes from the Underground" and the fish men from "Sons of the Silent Age" and Volume 2.
Well, I think Tales. #2 & 3 look to be the best. |
I think 1:28 and 2:5 have totally unrelated "fish people" who happen to look alike. Since 1:28 ended with a sort of truce. I may be wrong.... :)
|
I finally got this issue today, and it was well worth the wait. It was a damn good start to this series. I really liked the art and thought it was much better than the art in vol.4(people actually looked like people and not deformed monkeys)
|
Man, that was awesome. A great start to the new series, and notice the intro thingy at the front by Jim Lawson; doesn't his art look so much more sharp and cool when he inks it himself? The entire issue was just classic, and a nice, weird art style.
|
I managed to get it over here in England, it was pretty good
Artwork was really good, although I have to admit that Jim Lawson's intro page looks rubbish compared to some of his better work in Vol 4 Did anyone wonder (or any one know..) why Raph picked up the arrowhead and if it has significance or not? Although Don has said that Raph hasn't said anything to this day..wonder if it would pop up again for some reason or another |
Great story I do have to say. I love the drawings of the turtles bodies and everything else. But I think the heads need to be fixed badly. It just sucks. They look like some sort of ghosts. I think the cover artist drawings are awesome and should be used or just get the penciler to make the faces better.
