Best TMNT artist

Who do you think is the best TMNT artist and what do you like about their work?

Karpo_007 04-04-2004 06:17 PM

Easy. Eastman & Laird together.

cqb101 04-04-2004 06:18 PM

Eastman and Laird or Todd McFarlane. Sure, he only did one piece, but it's still amazing.

Peanut 04-04-2004 06:28 PM

Eastman and Laird hands down.

Aztec General 04-04-2004 07:51 PM

Yeah I have to go with Eastman & Laird. I also am a huge fan of Lawson's work cerca "Return to New York".

VaughnMichael 04-04-2004 08:11 PM

I'm suprised

my faves are A.C. Farley & Michael Dooney.
but I do like eastman & laird together.

Which issue did Tod McFarlane do?

Barkworm 04-05-2004 03:40 AM

He just did one drawing of Michelangelo, not a whole issue.

Stone Ill 04-05-2004 04:00 AM

Where would we be able to see this drawing?

Roseangelo 04-05-2004 07:32 AM

Eastman, Laird, Farley, Dooney, and Chris Allan.

Raphael's Sardonic wit 04-05-2004 01:25 PM

that is a cool pic! :o

Mobius One 04-05-2004 03:10 PM

I personally like A.C. Farley's work the best because I think that his work looks very realistic and just very awesome in general. Also is this guy I saw on the internet named Tom Kyzivat. Check out his TMNT stuff here:

GohanWinner 04-05-2004 03:22 PM

I like Lawson's old stuff, and Eastman and Laird together.

Definately.

Anarchistguy 04-05-2004 03:33 PM

I'd have to say Eastman and Laird when they were working together...and the Dreamwave guy, LeSean. He can really make good action scenes, even thogh they're SHORT!!! Lawson's old stuff (Return to New York) was great too. It felt kinda psychotic in a good way.

cqb101 04-05-2004 03:49 PM

:o :o How could I forget LeSean?! He IS my favorite TMNT artist.

PizzaPower 04-18-2004 12:19 PM

I like Peter Laird!

impetus 04-18-2004 02:15 PM

Definitely Dan Berger did the best TMNT art. Talbot and Farley are also awesome.

Michael Zulli is the best artist who has worked on the book, but that's in reference to his entire catalogue of works, not his TMNT books. The Last Temptation, anyone?

Leo seems to be missing.

if you bought the toys there was a mini comic in it that he drew.

impetus 04-18-2004 07:57 PM

lol, no offense. ;)

Raven 04-18-2004 07:59 PM

i just love anything that jim lee draws.

Agreed.

Mirage Continuum 04-19-2004 10:56 AM

My favorites are (in any order):

Eastman & Laird
Jim Lawson
Craig Farley

TheRATKING 04-19-2004 06:43 PM

*wonders how one depiction of a fictional character can be any more 'fake' than the rest*

Ryona 04-20-2004 01:46 PM

Eastman & Laird all the way! Michael Dooney was ok but he drew the turtles too bulky (I think that the turtles start to look ridiculous when they are drawn TOO muscular! They are ninja... not goon type muscle men!). Jim Lawson on the other hand would probably be one of the worst. I say this because his style looks too crude and rushed, like as if his heart isn't in it when he draws them.

batraph 04-22-2004 06:20 PM

My favorite is Pat Lee. Sure he didn't do much, but what he did do looked great.
For those of you who don't know he did a variant cover for the 1st issue of the dreamwave series, which later became a lithograph.

Thatr art was sweet....I still need to get me that litho.

The Big Bad 04-28-2004 10:14 PM

Chris Allan. Nice, clean style, and a decent compromise between 'serious' Mirage and the 'fun' toon. Plus, he does my favorite April ever.

fake:
Having a false or misleading appearance; fraudulent.

n.

1. One that is not authentic or genuine; a sham.

Ronin_of_Kirai 04-29-2004 10:22 AM

Kenvin Eastmen and Peter Laird. I really loved the first issue I think its because of it's the first apperance of the TMNT.

xZAOx 04-30-2004 06:19 AM

Well, my favorite would have to be Michael Zulli. I really really like his TMNT stuff. A very close second is Laird and Eastman.

But those 2 teams are so different, its kinda like apples to oranges.

Dr. Doom 04-30-2004 10:10 AM

Definately NOT Jim Lawson. I'd hafta say Chris Allen, and Joe Mad (everybody knows that Joe Mad TMNT pic)

Ryona 05-01-2004 08:40 AM

Yes, it's difficult to understand why Peter Laird keeps Jim Lawson around after all these years (maybe it's because he's simply reliable?). It's even more difficult to believe that to this day, Jim Lawson still draws very ameturistic. One would think he would spend all those years with Mirage Studios training to become a better, profesional illustrator. I used to think he was great untill my artistic abilllities exceeded his in my mid teens. I'm positive that there are many other artists in this forum that are more capable than Jim Lawson. Sorry if I simply seem to be bashing him, I just get upset when Mirage Studios releases comics with poor quality art work in it. I guess it's because I'm an artist that my standards are quite high.

Ronin_of_Kirai 05-01-2004 12:25 PM

I understand what you mean Ryo (cool name) Lawson is just.......not...good. It's the people he draws that make the book look really crappy.

Well then Ryo, when you have a job working on a comic book why don't you tell us.
