Old TMNT Figures That Never Appereared in the Cartoon? Why?
There were loads of them. I got back in 1992 a figure of a mustached greasy chef called Pizzaface with a wooden leg. I bought it and i never heard of him, was he in the cartoon? never saw him in it.
The original TMNT figures had some strange characters that i think never were in the cartoon. If that's the case, why did they do it? Because in that time period i got peeved off, because i couldn't find main characters like Krang, Baxter, Leatherhead, Shredder or Rat King, meanwhile these unknowns dominated the shelves along with the turtles. I found it frustrating at the time. |
I guess they couldn't include them all in the shows, just like they couldn't make toys of all the characters that appeared in the shows. It would have been cool to see some characters that were toys make an appearance in the show, though.
for instance: Ace Duck....yeah I know he appeared in one episode as a cameo, but I'd like to see an episode that follows his origin on the card cut-out from his action figure. Krang wants to eat a duck brain! Scumbug: I'd like to see an origin episode for him, because in "night of the rogues" the Turtles obviously knew who he was already. Ray Fillet: no I don't mean Ray from "Rebel without a Fin" , I mean Ray Fillet. Fugitoid...of course.. but he appeared in the new show, so that's good enough. Doctor El: imagine an episode about an elephant mutant... awesome. |
Don't forget Sgt. Bananas.
|
Well the CBS did a good job (not) in adding all the new toys into the show, but after the show went 'Red Sky', the only 'extra character' were the Rat King and Casey Jones. They never introduced new characters from the latest toys so I guess lots of em were left out.
|
I think that the only reason that they did not include any of the extra characters into the older cartoon is that they did not want to do any of the extra work, but wanted to rake in the extra dough from the action figures selling. The writers would have had to do actual work developing the extras' background instead of simply re-furbishing the same storylines.

and scratch

Fugitoid "DID" make it to the new toon. he had tank treads though instead of legs.
Ray Fillet also made an appearance from memory but I can't pinpoint the episode. |
WOW! Usagi you're avatar! I got that exact same Usagi toy in 92!
|
alot of the figs appeared in the comics and tmnt magazine . off the top of my head ray fillet, ace duck wyrm, scratch, hot head, the fugitoid and shoate appeared in either the mirage or archie comics.
and seargent bananas appeared in the tmnt magazine that was out in the early 90's. I wish they could have made more from the comics. man i always wanted a dreadmon and ninjara figure. and the tmnt magazine had a few characters in the comic strip that would have been cool . like lobster dude and a mutant man car named motorhead.he kinda reminds me of nano. and some of the characters from the archie comics gravitated over to the video games too. like hothead and armaggon. |
Many times the figures appeared in shows after they were made....a marketing technique. Many of the figures were created by the sculptors and their staffs. They had a ball coming up with the most ridiculous characters that they could come up with. I remember talking to the sculptor and he specifically mentioned Pizza Face as one of the more memorable WACKY characters that he came up with. They actually designed Pizza Face to come with a removable hat that revealed an alien on the top of his head when removed. They also had his missing fingure in one of his pizza accessories. Playmates nixed the removable hat idea for cost reasons, and felt it would be too graphic to have the fingure be in the pizza...so it was resculpted. Sorry for the rant...just some fun information that some may like to read.

Interesting Pizzaface info... also, many of the characters were designed by comic book artists such as Ryan Brown (Leatherhead, Doctor El), Michael Dooney, Dan Berger, etc.
|
well lessee, the archie comics had Scratch, Man Ray/Ray Fillet, Slash, Wingnut, Leatherhead, Ace Duck, Mondo Gecko, Warrior Dragon/Hot Head, Merdude and Tatoo and some others. The cartoon had loads of em. The TMNT game Radical Rescue had Scale Tail in it. I think the others were just too stupid and goofy to be in the show/comics. I mean.. I know the show is childish... but c'mon...
|
I have every Archie issue and I don't remember Scratch ever appearing...what issue was this?

Did Panda Khan ever show up?
Not sure why I'm asking. |
I didn't think that was Scratch, just some mutant cat. I don't think he was even a jailbird.
Panda Khan never showed up in anything but the action figures. He did, however, have a comic book of his own, just like Usagi Yojimbo. It was probably Peter and Kevin doing a favor for a friend. I've never read a Panda Khan comic book, but I have seen them around... |
I figured it was him and they just made the figure look a little different. I mean that or they based the idea on him
