The upgrade?
 

Krang, does this mean the forums are going to be upgraded soon?

To be honest, I don't know for sure, since I haven't heard any news about the progress of phpBB 2.2 in a long time. But those threads are going to take a long time to delete, so I figured that I'd start deleting them and optimizing the database soon so that it will be ready for when phpBB 2.2 is finally released.

I guess this sounds a little geeky but I'm really, really looking forward to that upgrade.

Why is this place getting an upgrade? I think it's awesome as it is. It's one of the best message boards I've ever visited!

It's a software upgrade with more features. check out Krang and Shredder's Big O Forum for an idea of what it will be like. it won't be 100% the same as PCF, but close.

Cool that kicks ass

At the very least, it gives us the ability to merge threads, make global announcements, and create sub-forums, which are three essential features that the forums currently don't have. But in addition to that, there are tons of new features that you'll have to wait for the upgrade (or at least the beta test) to see. ;)
