Bo Staff
My 7 yr old cousin made this thing (i dunno what it is) out of orange paper and at first I wanted to call it a Bo Staff. My grandma told me it was a 'propeller'. Ahh.. the young imaginations.
Meh. This can go in the off-topic thingy. Sorry. |
i used to make my own weapons all the time when i was young. i just bought a long dowl rod for a bo and for nunchucks i took the carbored tubeing that soem wire hangers have cut it in half and my mom had some old leather purses and the straps were like spegettie(sp) string so i put them through the tubing used some tape and ban nunchucks.

When I was little, there was this cool thing that my whole class did. We all made nunchaku out of popsicle sticks and yarn (we would tape or glue the yarn to the ends of the popsicle sticks). It was kinda like a fad back then to carrie one of those at school! It was fun and safe too (you couldn't really hurt someone with it even if you swung hard)! :anime:

ya if i swung my nunchucks to hard and git it it would sting. i8 mean it was take carboard and leather so ya ouch

The coolest thing I ever made was a katana out of wood. I found a nice stick. It was kinda short (about two feet) but it had a nice rectangular shape (about an inch and a half in width and about half an inch in thickness). I cut one of the tips in a 45 degrees angel. I then found a nice flat piece of wood (about 2/3 of an inch in thickness), and I cut it to be a square shape. Then I drilled in the middle of it so I could fit the stick through the flat piece firmly. I sealed it in place with strong wood glue and I glued two very flat pieces of wood on the sides of the handle to make it thicker than the blade. I sanded down the edges and corners of the sword a bit and I wrapped black hockey tape around the handle. I was lucky enough to find a strong cardboard tube that allowed the blade to fit snuggly inside (it was a perfect scabbard).
I still have the sword and scabbard. It's one of my treasures! :D |
I once fashioned a pair of Nunchacku out of an old choker chain dog collar and two rubber Bike handles. I took them to school and the principle called my parents. I'm ashamed to admit that it's people like me who made the censors take Mikey's chucks away :tcry:

Take Mikey's chucks away? Since when have Mikey's nunchucks been censored on TV?
|
since season three of the original toon. They were taken out. Also, he didn't have them at all in next mutation. They've gone with them for this show though.
The sad thing about stuff like my previous post is, nunchucks, real ones, are only like 10.00 at most weapons stores. I paid 16.00 for two pairs. |
Zach, how do you know the nunchucks were taken off of the show because of kids bringing them to school though?
Is there an article on it or anything? |

If we're going to have a discussion on them, can we at least address them by their proper name?
"Nunchaku" |
I am going to be totally honest with you Mikey (pizza shack Mikey  )
... I have NEVER heard A SINGLE THING about that!!! Sure, I did notice when I was younger and watching a lot of the later episodes that Mike didn't use his chucks as often, but then again, I also noticed that the other three turtles didn't use their weapons as often either, and sometimes they would go an entire episode without even showing their weapons... So, my question is, what makes you think it was JUST the nunchucks? Weren't the other weapons equally as dangerous (except maybe Donnie's bo)? |
As he already stated, it was because they banned 'em in the UK because of the gangs there using them. I've also seen some sites say it was because the nunchaku, being two pieces of wood conected by a chain, would be easier for kids to make than a Katana or Sai, but if this were the case, Don's Bo would seem to be the obvious target as kids could just pick up a large stick and viola! A Bo!

I've made bos out of Mop handles, flag poles, broom sticks, dow rods, and I actually did get a "real" one for Christmas once.
I've made chucks out of various materials. Swords and sais, a little tougher. |
i made some metal nunchucks during my work placement in metalwork where i had to go to a real working place for a week, i lathed 2 metal hollow handles, then put another rod inside which would rotate when spun because the rod was welded to the chains i used (chains suck for nunchucks but i had mikeys ones in mind)
speaking of UK, is the new series over there called 'teenage mutant ninja turtles' or is THAT still too violent sounding  |
From what I've heard, the UK's finally getting the same TMNT we're getting now.
