Star Fox: Assault
It's been a WHILE snce I've heard anything about this game. Last I heard was probably from E3. Anyone know anything new or interesting about this title? It's been like 2 years in the making and I'm actually kinda excited about it (especially since you can play as Falco! \m/)

IGN had a couple of new videos of it. It looks very good, the graphics are sweet and the game is back to its shooting roots.
It's coming out Valentine's Day. I hope to God they put LAN in it. If they did, it could be the best damn multiplayer shooter of all time. Screw split screens. I want Warp Pupe Tuneling over the internet.
I've heard that it won't have LAN from the official Japanese website
it'll still be a great game though |

Maybe they found out nerds don't have friends.

Nintendo's got a hell of a lot of making up to do when the DS online service launches...
God, I hope it crushes PSP in America. Otherwise I hold no hope for the industry.....until Revolution. Gah, I gotta stop reading those damn magazines. |
I'm not a very big fan of Star Fox. It's ok, I mean I own the SNES and 64 version, and had a good amount of fun with both, but it's really nothing special.
I got a pretty decent amount of enjoyment out of the N64 game (played it a few times, mostly mulitplayer, thought it was fun), but I've never played the SNES game, and frankly I don't much care about Fox. The connection I have with the series is a result of me falling in love with Falco in Super Smash Bros. Melee. The ability to play as him is pretty much the main reason I'm excited by this game.
the Star Fox games are the best rail shooters ever (and yes, I've played Panzer Dragoon)
Star Fox for SNES was awful, and Star Fox 64 was too short. I beat the demo unit in the mall. The kid behind me was bugging me and I smacked him like a naughty puppy. I never played the newer Star Fox game for GameCube because it's not really my style anymore.
SF64 is short but has alot of replay value. It takes a while to get all the medals and unlock all the secrets

.... ... oh hell NO! :dead:  :( |
the SNES SF wasn't really that good but it was pretty impressive for it's time. Plus it has the best music of the series

I don't think SNES Star Fox is bad. It was great for it's time, but if you look at it now, it seems like an average shooter and SF64 is superior to it in every way (except music)
heh yeah, the graphics are a little more than dateed these days :P But it was a much more challenging game and had that old school game badass appeal to it. Like, when one of your teammates dies, he's dead, 64 was more cartooy in that respect plus they had those annoying cheesy voices :dead: And I wouldn't call it average there were some really exceptional levels, like Titania(?), and the venom high way rocked. But I do like the direction this new game seems to be taking, things finally seem to be starting to work out for Nintendo.
true. It did have some great levels. I especially liked the trippy secret level where you fight a slot machine with "When The Saints go Marching In" playing in the background
The original kicked ass. Yes, flat shaded polygons won't fly now, but does that make VR racing any less fun? How about Virtua Fighter?
Star Fox is one of those giant tech demos that was made well, and is still fun to play. There's also a lot more to it's creation then most people know. I'm writing a 10 - 12 page article about it that will go up around the time Assult launches. Keep this in mind....>Star FOx was one giant accidnet. That little Shiggy interview in the back of the SF64 player's guide dosen't tell 1/10 of the story of just how big of a random accurance the whole franchise is. ;) I think you guys will like this. And yes, the original's music still owns all. I've heard some techno and orchestrated versions in the videos. This game is gonna own. I like the fact that they kept the Dinosaur Planet influnces. It gives the series depth and character. |
