Should there be a new movie?
Well, since I was born in late 1989 it was a bit late for me to watch the original TMNT and remember it. I haven't seen any of the movies either, but I dunno if I like the idea of actors in costumes. Personally I'd prefer animation, though in these days computer-modulated 3D characters are also possible (like in "The Hulk"). Anyways, it was the new series that first got me interested -I've since read many reviews about the old episodes, they seem alright. However, I thought it was unfortunate that a new movie wasn't released, I'm hoping that there will be one sometime in the future. :) What do you guys think? If a movie really was coming out would anyone watch it? Any ideas for the new movie? I'd love to hear them! :D

A new movie is always a topic here, personally, whilst I would like to see another one, the first film was the most adequete adapation of the comics

Since you say you havent seen any of the movies yet, you must see the first one. Believe me, the actors/costumes/voices are believable.
I hope like crazy they make a new one, either restarting the whole thing over or continuing after the 2nd movie as if the 3rd never existed cause it sucked. NO CGI/Live action combination, no way no how. They'd have turtles bounding off of bldg's like Daredevil..man that was lame. It'd take away the realism of the film. These are stocky but strong chelonian mutants, they can't go bounding off things like that or do unrealistic tricks. Real people, stunt guys and martial artists are THE way to go. Man you were born when I was in high school! I still feel old... |

but for me, the CGI/Live combo might work. just as an example - Wolverine from X-men 2 - his claws were sometimes CGI, or maybe real (like in the fight with Deathstrike) it could work, but i prefur real action most of the time. it depends on how the specal effects come into play. but you'll never know, it could be animation like the new show. i have a feeling it'll go that way because the lil' kids are to used to seeing the new turtles on TV |
TMNT 1 is one of my all time favorite movies. I still get chills when Shredder arrives at the final battle. If there were to be a new movie, I'd like it to be actors in costumes.

There was a movie in the works with Hallmark. Yes u heard me right, HALLMARK!! This may sound cheesy but Peter said the Splinter and other costume tests he saw were awesome....saddly the movie was shelved....:( i'd love to at least see the costumes....

John Woo was supposed to make the next movie be I guess he dropped the project

Live-action is the best way to go. Why? Because the other three were as well. Why stop? Also, as for plot, I seriously think there should be a sequel to the second film. Have a fourth film that takes place after TMNT III, but continues from TMNT II. Think about it, and it makes sense. Perhaps make a fourth film without the "IV" or "4" in the title, but still be a sequel. Use old footage for a backstory and off we go. Professor Perry would be an Utrom, a rogue Utrom named Krang resurrects Shredder on the pier and they team up to destroy the turtles and take over the city, then later the world. Introduce the Fugitoid and the Triceratons for a fifth film.
No Silver Sentry, no Guardians, hardly anything that could tie it to the new toon. If anything, have the voice actors featured and perhaps some Elite Foot and Foot Tech Soldiers. But that's about it. I say this because too many characters clog up the story. Foot Soldiers only serve as filler for fight scenes, but Sentry and the Guardians means more plot points and more backstory, something that isn't needed. |
if it was the darker tone of the 1st movie/comics then I'd like to see it with almost no CGI. Pure Puppets and all no CGI.

That John Woo thing was just a rumor, he was never attached. I think the first movie was great and there really doesn't need to be a new one. The new show satisfies my taste for tmnt. Though if they did make a new one, I'd definitely go see it. It would be cool if they did a live action adaptation of the mousers/baxter story, or the utroms/triceratons.

The first movie still holds up as one of the best comic to film movies ever. It really works as a film.
I found it quite funny that someone is asking a message boards full of TMNT fans if they think a new TMNT movie should be made? Are you expecting a lot of "No, please no more TMNT!" replies? lol |
Hey, by the looks of things most people would recommend the first movie. As said before, I've never seen it (I have read the plot and viewed some online screencaps mind you.) But that's just not the same to actually watching the movie itself. :ohwell: I will definitely rent it if I can find it though. :)
And as for the live action Vs animation, even though I'd prefer animation (cause I'm use to it) I probably wouldn't detest live action either. To be honest, my negative impression of live action films first began when I saw a foreign movie that was something like Power Rangers in the late 90's. It was so fake you'd feel    watching it. But I won't compare the TMNT to that. |

I agree with the majority here. Que, you HAVE to watch the first movie. No turtle fan should go without seeing that awesome film at least once. The other two movies aren't as good as the first, but they do have their moments. The second movie had lots of funny moments, but the turtles were reduced to fighting without their weapons (thanks to overly sensitive parents at the time). And who could forget the infamous Vanilla Ice scene? The third movie has horrible costumes because Jim Henson's company wasn't involved with the film. Despite this, the movie does have some good scenes, like Raph developing a friendship with a little kid. Plus, the fight scenes are much better than the second movie. They use their weapons a little more frequently this time around.
As for the fourth movie... The original idea was a CGI project that was supposed to be produced by John Woo's company. He was never to be involved in the role of director. This project never got off the ground due to lack of support from major movie companies. The second project was scheduled to be a mini-series made by Hallmark. Like jester mentioned, Peter got to see the costumes first hand, and the Splinter one even underwent several motion tests. Unfortunately, the project was scrapped... Don't remember the exact reasons why, but Dan Berger sent out an official e-mail to the fan list confirming this. Recently, another rumor about a possible fourth movie has sprung up. Peter Laird mentioned something about a big project in the works in his letters column for the Mirage comics (about two or three issues ago). He didn't want to reveal any more before details were ironed out. As of now, we're still waiting for any word on what this project might be... |
While I think it's a no-brainer to do a new TMNT movie, I think the best bet is to sequelize the first movie, without contradicting the second two.
You *could* scrap the old continuity, and start over, but to what end? Viewers already saw the origin, and most people know the story. And as it's been said here, the first movie was, really, the *best* interpretation of the early Eastman and Laird issues. By adapting Issues 1, 2, 3, 4, 10, 11, and both the Raph and Leo minis, they took the meat of the turtles fight with the Foot clan, and told one solid story. The second two flicks were frivalous, and did nothing to add to the first. Shredder returning was hackneyed, Casey dropping out in favor of boosting an actor's career... nothing of the flick made sense. So you start the new movie with Shredder dead. This doesn't contradict the second movie, but makes sense if you only watch the first one too. Return to New York was done in spirit, if not in practice, in the first movie, so you sort of have to move to the next big event: City At War. It's the best storyline for a number of reasons 1) It's the turtles vs the Foot... the basic premise of the property. People will recognize it, and not feel lost. 2) There *is* a Shredder in the story, and you can use that in trailers to entice people. Of course it turns out to be Karai, but that's a surprise for the audience. 3) The story is much darker, fitting a more adult-directed flick, and there's tons of character development potential in Casey and April, even if you fudge with the storylines from the actual book (IE, keeping both in New York, but going their seperate ways). 4) The ending allows for non-Foot sequels, since the audience will learn of he peace accord between Karai and the turtles. *Then* you could do Turtles with the Utroms and Triceratons... once you've hooked a fresh audience. |
I like that idea. I'd definitely prefer that instead of alien invasions and worlds. But producers want a huge audience, and would try to get the movie as close to the cartoon as possible, aiming for the kids. They'd most likely want the Utroms now instead of waiting.
|
how do u incorperate the uties into the movies though...reveal Perry as an Utrom??
|
That would be a great idea , specially if that was the original idea I still dont get why they didnt use it ......plus It gives material for even another movie
|
Ive always thought that City At War is the next likely movie step, what with the Shredder gone. I would enjoy seeing some Foot Elites thrown in there too, and it has to be back like the first one. I think Peter Laird knows his mistake by kiddin up the last two, and will make the next one like the first one, or even More like the old comics.
