Space Ghost Comic Discussion

I hate Zorak's new look...I mean, seriously, people were telling me he "looked great", it's a completly redesigned character with his name slapped on him, nothing like I'd thought he'd be.

Aside from that, the third issue was excellent, with Thad finally getting some revenge for Byork..I mean, his wifes' murderors... (It's even better when you read the comic and hear Thad speak in George Lowe's voice), hes' a cold, killing machine in this issue.

So far I'm loving it.

I'm glad they brought Space Ghsot back to his action-hero roots.

Coast to Coast was good fun for sure, but it completely changed the public's perception of what was once a good cartoon super hero.

Kinda like Batman.

The Adam West series was hilarious, but it single-handedly turned Batman into a campy comedy character. Took a decade to get him back to his roots.

Maybe this will have the same effects on Space Ghost.

You might be right, it's certaingly selling BIG TIME right now, and I hope it becomes a regular, I just hate the look they've given Zorak...at least Burton's firs Batman movie made the characters completly recognisible, this just seems determined to keep Thad the same, but his villains need extreme make-overs...

What's next? a "Strangers in Paradise" version of Josie and the Pussycats?

Well, Issue Five was pretty good, a great battle between Thad and Zorak, we've got a second mini-series confirmed, so that might see the apperances of Moltar or Brak's space pirates

DrSpengler 03-30-2005 03:05 PM

I let a coworker of mine borrow my Space Ghost issues not too long ago. He said he thought the General was going to end up being Moltar, or at least they were preparing him to be. Not so sure anymore now that he's missing a hand. It's a remote possibility that, if it isn't Moltar, he could become some other Space Ghost villain. It's not like his villains had origins in the cartoons, anyway.

You've got a point, Temple sort of bears a small resemblence to him

Is there any way I can see Zorak's new look?

This is the best I can do for now, I know it's not really what you're looking for.

I'll see if I can't find some page scans.

No problem, here's a scan

Man...isn't he awesome? They even stylized Zorak's "vest" thing. Fan-freaken-tastic.

Dane E5R 03-31-2005 08:25 PM

Whoa, man. He doesn't even look like a mantis. Looks like a...big..horse. That redesign has completely turned me off from the comic.

BartAllen 04-01-2005 05:41 AM

Its a good read. im sure they will explain this change in the look. dont not get it because it has a slightly different looking character.

and man those alex ross covers.. GOLD!

Dane E5R 04-01-2005 05:53 AM

Well if he only looked slightly different, it wouldn't be that big of a deal. But pretty much the only thing that critter has in common with Zorak is the fact that they're both green.

DrSpengler 04-01-2005 09:09 AM

This is the cartoon Zorak:

Pretty simplistic-looking, particularly the head. If you compare both images, it's all there. THe big eyes, the antennea, the overall shape of the head is the same. If anything, it's just drawn better, that's why he looks so different. I think they did an admirable job translating him into a threatening form.

You shouldn't deny yourself one of the year's best comics just because you don't like Zorak's new look. Just read it and you'd be surprised. But if you don't, well, it's your loss.

Dane E5R 04-10-2005 06:03 AM

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Zorak wasn't broken. Seeing what they did just makes me fearful of what they'd do to other characters.

ZariusTwo 04-10-2005 08:11 PM

I agree, they've barly changed Jan and Jayce, and Space Ghost is still the same design (I still can barly take that seriously as it is), why not keep Zorak the same?
