Punctuation
Since I have no clue about English punctuation, I wonder if someone could post some rules for it. It's really bothering me.
|
This site covers all your basic punctuation rules in a pretty concise manner.
|
You seem to have punctuation down pretty well already. o.o
|
You have some of the best English I've ever seen, Barkworm. I don't even think you need something like this.
|
Yes, Ai-chan is right, Barkworm. You have very good punctuation. I would say it's excellent infact.
Anyway, I think this is a good topic to start. There are so many members here in the Technodrome who use no punctuation at all, or very little of it. I strongly suggest for those members to take a look at the site Damnhooligan posted. |
Thanks guys! The point is, most of my punctuation is based on wild guessing and German punctuation rules. Later this year I'll be teaching English for a while so I'd really like to know some of the rules. Thanks for posting that link, damnhooligan! Could someone post any other, more complex rules?
|
Seriously, I don't think you need them. The only thing I haven't seen you use is a semi-colon; but then they're rarely needed for message board posts. :P

if.you.want.to.be.cool.just.put.periods.after.ever y.word.
wtf that space in every doesn't show up on the edit post...weird. ...Oh and I don't know if an elipsis(sp?) is puncuation, but I love it. |
The Elements of Style is the definitive handbook on all things English, and the magnificent bastards at Bartleby put the whole blessed thing online. My dog-eared, abused copy, though only a few years old is already in bad need of replacing.

Bless this thread; it is grand!
Seriously, I can think of a few of my online buddies that will benefit GREATLY from those sites. |
Everyone I talk to on AIM types like an idiot. I hate using it these days. Oh well. These are great sites for helping you with puncuation, Barkworm. Make use of them. :D

I hope your punctuation has improved Bark.
|
I think you‘re missing a comma there, bro.
|
Kinda funny to see a native German speaker struggling with English punctuation. The comma usage in German is much more complex in comparison, for example.
|
Hey, that was 20 years ago.
German punctuation rules are much clearer though, in many cases comma usage in English is optional. |
I remember these old drome users...:tcry:

Is the guy with the Kanji username still around? He seems to have retained his Super Moderator status...

Wow, it’s amazing how long ago this thread was made. It’s like a time capsule.
