What game do you depise?

Hey.. sorry if its been done already, but again.. i didn't see any topic like this recently, so I decided to start one.

What games do you depise? what games made you cringe just to think about them? Did you hate them immediately or did they annoy you after a while?

Please... no flaming... opinions WILL differ so try to refrain from bashing each other... stating reasons for disliking the games would be helpful also...

Me: Myst and Riven... I tried to like them, i really did... I liked the concept, but i hated the games. It was just too confusing figuring out what I needed to do. Why I bought Riven knowing it'd be just the same as Myst, i have no idea...

I absolutely hate Final Fantasy VIII. Terrible combat system, terrible magic system, terrible attribute system, and blurry ass graphics. The story was decent and the music was good, but that's it. A God awful game pumped out by Squaresoft. You guys f*cked up bad.

Spitfire 06-06-2005 09:32 PM

I dont like a few games
Manhunt - I bought it and I found it to be really hard and not very fun. It was very talked up and highly overated.
Halo - Played it for hours with friends and didnt find it to be very fun when stacked up to other FPS games. I also found this to be highly overated.
God Of War - This game was short and extreamely easy. The puzzles were stupid and you would have to really suck at video games to die even on the hardest setting. Another one that's highly overated.

GTA games in general tick me off. Their just a bunch of mainstream stuff what ever is popular at the time. The newest was okay the two player helped but the 2 player needs alot of work <_< The games so overated I dont see whats so fun about running up to someone sensely beating them taking their cash and running off. Okay that was kinda fun the first time but the 600 times afterwards it starts to loose my intrest. The mission can get pretty dumb too.

EDIT: Almost forgot Devil Mat Cry 2 - RUINED THE WHOLE STORY LINE! GAH! This game sucked so hard on every level...except the music which I enjoy

Superman 64. Stupid tornadoes...

ThirdMarioBro 06-06-2005 10:52 PM

Okaaaaay....here we go in no particular order...

1. GTA [Insert Subtitle Here] - It's not as much the game I hate as the influnce it has had on other people's vision of game design.

2. Manhunt - See Above...

3. Driv3r - See Above

4. God of War - See Above

5. The Legend of Zelda The Wand of Gamelon - Dog sh*t cranked out by Phillps due to a screwup in Nintendo's legal department and licensing issues between the two. They need to lynch the people who designed this crap.

6. Sonic Heroes - After playing SA1 & SA2 and loving them both to death, this sh*t scared me on Sonic. I feared it would always be like this, but after playing Shadow the Hedgehog at E3, I assure you, it's golden and restores the Sonic brand ti it's former greatness. Die Sonic Heroes.

7. Mario is Missing - Don't even ask me to explain why

8. Maddan 20XX - *ahem* moving on...

9. Anything with the words "Tomb" and "Raider" in any arrangment

10. Harry Potter, ANY Star Trek game, and whatever other cheap licensed stuff I've forgotten.

Barkworm 06-07-2005 12:14 AM

Nothing comes to my mind, I never buy a game until I'm sure I'll like it (or I get it cheap). Oh no, wait. PIKMIN! I'm sure the gameplay is great and stuff but I just couldn't play a game that was so disgustingly cute. I usually have no problem with "cute" games (Yoshi's Island is still my favourite game after all) but this was just horrible. *shudders*
EDIT: I'm not the kind of guy who would bash games I've never played but I'd never ever touch this particular game, even if it got the best reviews ever. I can't describe how much I loathe that crack-dealing, sexist asshole.

7. Mario is Missing - Don't even ask me to explain why

The Legend of Zelda The Wand of Gamelon
Hey hey. I've never played it (Wouldn't touch it with a 10ft pole), but the 'cutscenes' had me in tears. That's gotta count for something. Besides, who could take this game seriously anyway? ;)

Anyway, I really dislike the GTA series and similar games for the reason TMB mentioned. Glorifying violence is not cool. It really annoys me when games try desperately to be 'mature'. Prince of Persia: Warrior Within (I don't care if the game is good or not, I'm talking about its 'attitude') and that 50 Cent 'game' Barkworm mentioned (Why the f*ck is that chump getting his own game anyway? I thought real ganstazzz didn't play videogam...Oh wait, I forgot the PS2 was the coolest console ever created. My bad.) come to mind.

I'm also not a big fan of all those cookie-cutter RPG's everyone is so crazy about. Square-Enix' games in particular. Guys, make a FINAL Fantasy already, people are starting to notice it's the same damn game every time.

Barkworm 06-07-2005 02:46 AM

I don't see how every FF game is the same. The Zelda series hasn't changed that much either (at least for the last four games).

Mecha Cow 06-07-2005 03:44 AM

Comparing Final Fantasy with Zelda is like comparing apples and oranges. They are two completely different types of games.

Zelda doesn't need to change drastically because it is gameplay-driven. It doesn't get old.

Final Fantasy is story-driven. Something that is story-based should constantly present new stories to keep things fresh. In my opinion every Final Fantasy game (and most other RPG's as well) are riddled with the same old cliches and don't offer anything new to keep the player interested. All it has is the story, and it gets old really fast.

Whatever, this is just how I see it. If you enjoy the games, good for you.

Anarky 06-07-2005 06:47 AM

  • Final Fantasy: I just don't see how these games can be great, also I don't like all the propaganda they make for the games. The movie was great (animationwise) though
  • Wizards and Warriors: Or something like that. I just know that it was that game, which my brother loved. I then tried it, deciding to be a mercenary with a big ass sword. OK, I go into a forest, a skeleton appears. The battle begins. I am allowed to hit that f*cker once, then it's his turn and I don't even get to see my big ass sword. That was just lame.

That's it for the first round, maybe some more come to mind later.

I'm disappointed in all of you!

Why is that, Ai? People have different tastes, otherwise the world would be a rather dull place.

DrSpengler 06-07-2005 09:24 AM

I didn't like the first Ninja Gaiden game on the NES. Yeah, the sticking to walls-thing was cool, but you couldn't climb over the f*cking edge. So if you just barely missed a platform and clung to the wall you had to let go and drop. Real good.

The Ghostbusters games for the NES were also pretty pathetic. Ghostbusters II didn't even have a final boss, and if you actually managed to make it to the top of the Snador building int he first game, and beat Gozer, all you got was a message saying "You have proved the justice of our culture."

Jed 06-07-2005 09:27 AM

The PAL version of Resident Evil: Outbreak. Online wasn't included and the single player mode just doesn't hold up on its own. I got it on sale and I still wish I never bought it.

Driv3r was such a terrible game. Lamposts and stuff just pop out of nowhere and you go smashing into them, failing the mission eveytime, fantastic  The controls were dodgy and the missions were all the same.

I'll post more if I think of any.

Christ. That game would cure insomnia.

Peanut 06-07-2005 11:53 AM

I don't really hate much. Only a couple.

Square RPG's. Final Fantasy has got to be the worst thing I've ever layed eyes on...ever. How those piss-poor "games" continue to sell, I'll never know.

Metal Gear Solid. It's an interactive movie, and the stuff you do get to play isn't even all that good.

THPS. If there's any game that ever influenced a group of idiot kids, it's this one. The large amount of "skater kids" that began to pop up after these games hit was ridiculous. Gotta love the posers.

That... didn't... just... ... ... Wow. :o .

I played that Universal Theme Park Adventure game for Gamecube right after it came out. Most god awful game ever made. Controlls were buggy, graphics were crap, no story, no music. Hell, I could make a better game using BASIC with my eyes closed.

Also, Lost Kingdoms. I thought the game was gonna be great, and it was a fun little distraction, but over all it just sucked. The game's easy, up until the very last boss, then it's impossible.

Anarchistguy 06-07-2005 12:43 PM

I basically don't like RPGs, mostly HYBRID HEAVEN. Anyone else remember that crappy game?
