Concepts

Anyone have any cool toy concepts you would like to share? I for one wish the turtles had more articulation points..

Join the club, man.

I still want a G.I. Joe esque line of TMNT.

NoPressApril 05-13-2007 01:09 AM

Old thread :D well i'm bringin' it back like snap bracelets. My concept: Playmates Toys Inc. takes the mold for the 89 Genghis Frog and starts producing the figure again. Then they paint the figure in 4 different color schemes accurate to the old series. Then they package them in a pretty window box with a cardboard swamp background and a big "20th Anniversary" gold foil sticker and sell this exclusively via their website. Thus testing the water for vintage TMNT figures in today's time while using an existing mold, saving them money and making it possible to try something new. Something that might prove very lucrative. If they don't sell, hey, they didn't lose much. The cost of paint and packaging. Not like they lost with the animated Addams Family figures or Swans Crossing figures. All the while being able to keep up with just how well they sell by personally offering them themselves. If they do sell (and more than likely they would) they could then look into creating new molds for core characters and make money from us 80's chirren with a 20th Anniversary line. How freakin' cool would it be to complete the punk frog set 20 years later? The End

Why Ghengis frog? I like the idea of a 20th anniversary line, but I wouldn't be compelled to buy any of the frogs.

Hey Roseangelo! Well I was thinkin' that it would be a way to honor the vintage line while giving us 3 characters we never had before. Adding to as well as celebrating the old days. They could just repaint the original 4 turtles but then we would just have 4 characters we already have or could have easily whereas the frogs would provide a little bit of new too. Just my 2 cents. :D

Oh come on, a toy buff like you has to know there was a Napoleon figure in the vintage line. ;)

It's a cool idea, although I still wouldn't buy the frogs (I think I just recently sold Ghengis off..).

:D I forgot about him! Even as a kid it baffled me that Napolean was sooo far off the mark and I guess even today I still don't consider him part of the punk frogs  Well that makes it 2 characters we never got  I also noticed that there were 2 versions of necklaces the frogs wore but since Playmates made the arrowhead version they could just correct that by painting a circle over it like they were so good at doing with the Trek line.

i'm not a customizing kinda guy. Plus I don't open any of my turtles as the card is just as much art to me as the sculpt itself so the minute they hit the air I wouldn't care anymore. I'm weird what can I say? :D

nah I used to be like that I just have all my favorites opened now and I only keep the best verson of each character up on my turtle shelf.
I had every figure ever mib even the re-releases but I'm selling them all I'm sure other people will enjoy them more than me at this point.

yeppers I no longer have the pics though I believe Tokka does but the chances of him posting here are slim to none these days.
I recently bought playmates 1994 catalog off of ebay and it has allot of really cool concept art for figures that never came out.

Spawn Guy 05-27-2007 04:34 PM

Like what? More mutant figures?

drkngrusum 06-11-2007 06:59 PM

I would of loved to have seen more playsets. Like with the original line's sewer playset, why couldn't they have made add on rooms. Like Don's lab or a practice room.

Peter Laird's "Blast from the Past" blog has a few neat tidbits about figures and playsets that never made it out of the starting gate. Namely:

Lots of cool stuff. Check it out!

That Shredder's Playset would have been soooooooooo bad ass.
