I JUST WANNA BE UNDERSTOOD!!!

:P :P

manga = comic book

The word "manga" can mean any kind of illustrated story but it is usually used to mean Japanese comics. Manga are read in massive quantities by people of all ages, from school children to adults. They are almost always published in serialized forms in magazines and, if popular enough, collected into books as both paperbacks and hardcovers. Major genres include shoonen (boys'), shoojo (girls'), seinen (young men's), redisu (ladies'), and seijin (adult, mainly men's erotic manga). Some of the best books in ENGLISH that DISCUSS manga as a cultural phenomenom are Frederik L. Schodt's Manga Manga and Dreamland Japan.

Basically, manga is culturally accepted in Japan as NOT JUST FOR KIDS.... there are Soap Opera, horror, mystery, children's, teen-angst, etc. You can buy it at just about any newspaper and magazine vendor. Look out for it in the anime you watch. EVERYBODY"S reading it...

in Tenchi Muyo! Special: The Night before Carnival, girls' romantic manga play a MAJOR role in the story when they are assumed to be MANUALS FOR DATING EARTHMEN. :lol:

OH, and a quick note on my Japanese spelling...

double vowel means you hold the NORMAL vowel sound twice as long... "oo" = "o-oh".
not "oo" like in english "boo" or "stew"
Generally, when writing Japanese in the english alphabet, you'd see a line over longer vowels, but my keyboard has no such button... so we go to ghetto-style romanization
ROMANIZATION = writing Japanese in the english alphabet.

OKAY.
ANY MORE QUESTIONS?!

:P :P

The Angel Queen 12-05-2002 03:16 PM

Bad girl! I can't believe you didn't know what a manga was! You like all these animes, and you didn't even know what a manga was? You should of asked me during class. (I could have written an essay an the subject.) You should know by now that you should ask questions of anime freaks if you wanna get into anime, right? Well, whatever. I guess it doesn't really matter that much. You wouldn't have been able to ask me if you didn't even know the word existed. Well, bye you lunch after mine person.
