lol change of character

has anyone else noticed that Raph changes personalities in each of the movies, in the first one he was a huge hothead and easily tempered, in the 2nd one he was not as angry but in the 3rd one his character had no anger what so ever!

Weapon X 09-03-2005 12:10 PM

Yes, I believe in "The Making of Secret of the Ooze" VHS someone said because of the "backlash" from parents about violence and such that they wanted to make Raph alittle more mello as you see in part 2, then in 3 he gets mad at the begining when he throws his sai into the speaker while their practicing.

Sewer Bull 09-03-2005 12:11 PM

He was aging and the peace came to his heart within all these years, that's the point.

Jo269976 09-03-2005 12:41 PM

that was the only part he was angry in TMNT 3

and raph always has to be angry cause thats his thing
like Mikey's jokes, Leo's leadership and Don's smarts

So because he's been labled as the "Hothead" he need's to always be angry? How does that make sence, and Mike doesn't always have to be the happy go luckey one either.

Im not saying that, im saying thats his personality and he should have more than one moment where he loses his temper

lilonardo 09-03-2005 03:06 PM

I remember in the first one.......

"Damn! "

We need an audio file of that quite!

Jo269976 09-03-2005 03:10 PM

Lol! the 1st movie is what is closest to Raphs personality in the cartoon and comics

Weapon X 09-03-2005 06:31 PM

Hmmm, now what cartoon are we talking about? I hope you mean the new one, but then that would be kinda wierd considering the movie came out be fore the new one......interesting. :|

Yeah, I'd like to consider it a sign of maturity, too. It takes the effect of the lack of his usual personality away.

Of course, I do the same thing with TNM, by considering it as a "What if" series, therefore taking away the scar of its existence. But I digress.

XERO 09-03-2005 07:22 PM

Raphael will always have that anger inside. He can control it, but I don't think it will ever truly go away. But then again, that's up to Raph.

I define 'What if...'

I wish it was 'As of this day...' :P

I prefer Raphael personallity from the second live action movie. His personalty and action in the first movie alienated me. And in the third movie I liked his interaction with that little japanese kid.

yeah i hated that. I *LOVE* the first Raph..he IS the real Raph in my eyes. He is awesome. He was intense, so full of mixed up emotion...sometimes he looked like he could just break down suddenly....or kick you tushie. with him ya never know!!

I'm ok with the 2nd one but he just isn't...you know...the intense, angry and sad Raph that he is in #1.

#3...i wont even go there.. *GAGS*

it's all cause of those @#()*$)@(#*$ parents from back then..they whined about the first movie...forcing them to lighten things up. Raph did things he's never be caught dead doing...dancing for one. UGH...

then the effect worked in the first movie. That is what he does, he alienates people to protect himself, he doesnt like getting close to anyone (even the audience!) in fear of hurting them or being hurt.

Sage Ninja 09-08-2005 11:50 PM

I was only alienated becuase he was so different from his cartoon counter-part that it left me perplexed. After a few more times of watching it I got used to him and was so weirded out and confused. But if I had to pick a version of him him it would be second movie Raphael. Although I wsh that they could have kept the orginal guy who played him in the first movie.

Jephael 09-18-2005 09:09 AM

I'm with you on that, Sage Ninja. It kinda weirded me out to see Raph, who at the time was the wiseguy of the original cartoon, act like he had a bug up his shell.

I can honestly see though why parents were offended by the use of cursing in that film because it was setting a bad example.

I loved the second movie Raph much more!

The Stryker 09-20-2005 02:42 AM

I think the whole Raph setting a bad example is true in some cases.

I learned the word Damn from TMNT 1...

dejawolf 09-23-2005 10:09 AM

whats in a word? damn is a series of sounds put together to express anger, or disappointment.

now if i say, forbanna jævelskap, you won't be offended by it.
buts its got the exact same meaning as damn, but none of you got offended
by it. i could say scheisse! and you wouldn't care.
madre de dios, idit nahoi. these are different swear words from different languages. expressing any of these words to anyone in the US, won't offend a bird.

but think about it. whats so damn offensive about the word damn. or the word ****, for that matter. or any other swear word conceived.
70 years ago, humbug, was a very offensive word, and nowadays, its ******** thats reigning supreme as an offensive word.
humbug basically means ********.
i'm sure if you traveled back to the beginning of the 1900's,
and walked around saying ********, people would laugh, because it would be such a funny sounding word.

another thing that surprises me with the US, is that letting kids see people die, is more accepted than letting kids see people having sex.

this was particularly evident in the GTA: san andreas scandal.
i think everyone knows GTA. drive around, make roadkill of old grannies on the sidewalk, put people on fire with flamethrowers, knock people down with baseball bats, or massacre them with chainsaws. throw handgrenades into public places, or cut them down with a katana. and occassionally sit down on a rooftop and snipe people walking around on the streets.

but as soon as you're able to have sex with your girlfriends, and actually view the action, the game suddenly receives an adults only stamp.
sick stuff, if you ask me.

which brings me back to this little chat about the first movie.
in all the movies, you have 4 heroes, that solves problems by beating people up, and in the end, the bad guy is crushed in a garbage truck(well, he was, until the guys in the big seat decided to make a second movie). and this is viewed as better example, than raph expressing his feelings with the word damn. i mean.. come on, how you guys expect to beat me?

Sewer Bull 09-23-2005 10:26 AM

Amen to that, dejawolf.
