raphael vs. the yeti on ebay,

a guy got it on there right now ( 11-14-05 mon 8:30 est ) for 25 with 30 minutes left and now has bid. i think his problem is you have to look up raphael vs the yeti , its not under the turtles listing , luckily i already found 1 here in nj, if i had a spare 30 i'd get it but i ordered 2 of those new ninja knights sets instead

Yea, these should be hitting shelves with more frequency soon so its best to just wait and not have to deal with shipping (and sometimes shady characters...)

Oh how lucky you are to live in the states, lol;) I might hold out on getting one until someone I know goes to America, shipping for that size box can get a bit expensive.

I've seen these for about two weeks now...interesting, to say the least.

The Raph is nice, but the Yeti is still a "WTF?" moment.

BigApple3AM 11-15-2005 12:06 PM

I saw it on eBay as well, was not impressed. If I wanted a Primal Rage figure and a Battle Armor Raph I'd buy them both, and it'd probably end up being cheaper than the 2 pack. I still haven't gotten the Leo vs. The T-Rex, though I'm thinking about it for some reason.

Well, if the Yeti is like the T-rex then I'll definately wait for a clearance...that set (the trex/leo) just might be my least favorite set from the entire run of the new toys...

Same here, the Leo's ok but I haven't even taken the T-rex out of the box. I only got the Leo set because I happened to come across it, it'll be a long while before I get the Raph set. Does anyone have close up pics of the set though, I've only seen the boxed photos?

was the t-rex in the leo set supposed to do something origanally, like make noise or something ,. there is that little opening under his tail thats sealed ( unless thats his poop shoot? hahaha , but i kid . thanx insult ) looking to be what would be for a small battery, and there is something going on inside there. i should get another just to cut it open and see. every store i go in has at least 3 of them

Nah, I wouldn't do *that*. I mean, I can't stop you, of course. As much as I like the concept of the Leo vs. T-Rex, I wouldn't maim your rex just because you can get another one.

The T-Rex sculpt is from the Primal Rage toyline that Playmates did to supplement the video game. I think the Yeti has one of those poop shoots as well. Basically, he swallows little tiny plastic people which are retrievable. However, since Leo won't fit down the Rex's throat, there was no need for the little door. It would have made more sense to edit it out completely, but this IS Playmates we're talking about. My friend Tokka told me he got an Utrom stuck down there trying to reenact a scene from the Vol. 4 comics.

I think a cooler toy would have been TMNT vs. T-Rex, a set that came with several mini-TMNT figures and a slightly larger T-Rex-- I think a lot of kids would have wanted something like that, might have wound up being more than just a Target exclusive that sat on the shelf in large numbers for over year.

thanx dude, mystery solved

Huh... I never realized the T-Rex and Yeti were Primal Rage "rejects"... Now they're just getting lazy. :thumbsdo:

It's not really Playmates being cheap, it's the nature and economics of any exclusive. Since both sets are or at least started as exclusives, keeping the production cost low is incredibly important. The production run on a set like that is likely to be MUCH lower than non-exclusives. Even among the largest retailers, no single retailer has much more than 20-25% share of the toy market. So if a toy is exclusive to one retailer you are automaticly looking at production runs that are going to be a fraction of what other products would be. If they were going to produce a new toy as an exclusive, Playmates would have to raise the wholesale price considerablely. This is why exclusives are almost always repaints/ redecos / retools / reissues of previous toys no matter what line or company they are from.

MyNameSlash 11-22-2005 05:29 PM

Yeah, you do make an important point, and I'll agree with you. It's just kind of weird seeing Raphael take on Blizzard, or Leonardo take on Sauron/Diablo. I guess I don't even understand why the turtles are fighting the Yeti or a T-Rex. Is there a main reason for it, or is it just another toy to collect?

Jester 11-22-2005 07:22 PM

As far as I know Slash, it's just a figure gimic...:p
