TMNT Newspaper ad

According to the official TMNT site we should be expecting to see the TMNT in newspapers soon with an ad for literacy.

Here's what the add looks like:

Raminds me of a movie.......MMMM I paraphrase ('cause I can't remember the exact lines)....

Splinter: Were you seen?

the boys all look at each other.

"we're ninja...we practice th art of invisibility..."

Splinter: Try harder.....

To me, this looks more like an ad to lure younger readers than to get them to read. If they'd be all pro-reading, they'd show a TV-Spot, because illiterates, of course, wouldn't be able to read the ad anyways and wouldn't even buy a newspaper, since they can't read that either.

So, if you ask me, this campaign is rather pointless, from the point of anti-illiterate-propaganda.

My first impulse was to agree with Anarky...

But ya know, I think when I was younger seeing Ninja Turtles reading a newspaper would have appealed to me. Of course, I'm inclined to read newspapers anyway. As with the anti-drug (or any other) campaign, the campaign is most effective on people who are already inclined in that direction.

I have mixed feelings about the subcaption. In case it's too small for you to read, here's what it says:

Newspapers give heroes everywhere an extra edge. Leo follows world events. Don keeps up with the latest in scientific discoveries. Raph reads the sports section. Mikey checks out the TV listings. And everyone keeps an eye on crime!

It's kind of blah. Kind of a flat representation of the TMNT characters. Sounds to me like it was written by a random PR person (sorry, no offense to PR people).

Heh... me being a scientist, the first thing that popped to mind was that there ain't no way Donnie relies on a regular newspaper for science news. He might get peeved like I do that the editors insist on using inaccurate terminology. Some of the stories are good and interesting (I recommend anything written by Jon Franklin) but they're not "the latest."

But Raph looks good, he's really into it! They must be reading the 'badass' section.

I think people now a days read the news on the internet or watch it on tv .....But I would buy the newspaper just to get the ad:P

and besides kids don't really read newspapers I only used to read the comic section ,..... I guess they should make more like a commercial during saturday mornings explaining the kids why its cool to read books and they could actually advertise some of the childens TMNT books that they sell at the bookstores.

I've been reading the paper since I was 12 or so. Now I read online. Google News, baby! Paper newspapers are kind of killing themselves off.

It's sad, because I think investigative newspaper reporting is VERY important to journalism. If you read the newspapers, you'll notice that most stories appear in the newspaper before they hit TV and radio, and the newspaper will almost always be more in-depth. I guess it shouldn't be any surprise that most TV news stories seem to be lifted from the papers. And bloggers are great but they're decades away from having the credibility and pull that newspaper reporters have.

It's weird because people expect to pay like 25 cents for a whole weekday paper... it's probably the best deal in the modern world, and holding a real newspaper in your hands is way better than reading off a monitor, IMO. But nobody pays. [/rant]

I get my specialty news from the National Academy of Sciences newsletters and similar publications.

Ya know when I was younger I'd read the paper all the time. Course nowadays I AM the paper to some people. *lol* Seriously tho...Im surprised Mike only reads the tv guide listings. So he only reads the Sunday paper??? That has the listings for the whole fraken week in it! :P

I expect Leo to follow world events and Raph to read the sports section and Don to at least skim thru the so called science articles...but Mikey?

He probably reads the comics and recipes! I once read an article about pizza in the paper...it said the history of pizza. I kept the article for years and eventually memorized the thing. I think I still have it after 15 years.

I can just imagine Mikey reading that article and somewhat freaking out that the inventer of the modern pizza was named Raphael.

 Ha! That's freakin' awesome.

Mikey would be all up in the Comics, Entertainment, and Food sections.

I wonder if Leo would be into the Health section? He'd have to steal it from Don on Tuesday when it's attached to the "science times" (assuming they read the NY Times... lol).

Suddenly I'm thinking the picture above is inaccurate. They should be ripping that newspaper apart instead of gathering around it.

I have a feeling that the creative minds behind TMNT didn't have a whole lot to do with this project. :ohwell:
