Rocksteady and Bebop: why they are dumb
I have been mulling over this for a while and since in the first season R+B didn't apear so damn stupid as they did later on I have been wondering why. Now some one commented that Rocksteady and Bebop wheren't so much as dumb as they where just typical un-educatated street punks, and later as the series progresses they really get dumber and dumber to the point of almost retardation, and here is what I think
Bebop and Rocksteady where mutated with animals that are of an inferior intelligence to that of a human, and the turtles where mutated with a human (Yoshi/Splinter) that is of a supior intelligence to turtles. it not unreasonable that the one that was mutated would take on not only the physical aspects of what they where mutated with, but their persona and intelligence as well. Look at Baxter Stockman, he was a brilliant man when human but when he mutated with a fly he started to take more of a fly personality and inferior intelligence. Maybe when the the turtles came in contact with Yoshi all the genetic makeup for human kind where transferred into them and all the potential of human...advancement was in them. The turtles in theory could be in a more advanced state than normal humans because of the mutation. |
Ah, but that doesn't account for Yoshi not losing intelligence upon being mutated with a rat.

Clearly their brains were malnourished due to a pizza-defficient diet. Obviously.

Splinter was a well trained and learned ninja. He always had a high level of intellegence, well the former Street Punks did not. That could have factored into it. |
I don't think there's really an explaination.
It's like why does Homer Simpson get dumber each passing season? He just does. lol |
Because dumb = funny.

Until you get really dumb, then it's just annoying. Kind of like WoW players, but I don't need to go into that. :ohwell:

That factor happened in many of the 80's and early 90's cartoons. I hated that. He-Man & The Masters of the Universe is also another clear example of the "Bebop and Rocksteady sindrome". The villians got dumber in each episode.:dead:
The Early B & R were awesome!!:D |
I think they wanted to give the show a good sense of humor,
Just like DiC did when adding Scratch and Grounder to one of their Sonic the Hedgehog cartoons. |
Bebop and Rocksteady definetely sounded dumber in tone as the seasons got on because of the mental strain of constantly failing against the turtles sent them even more potty, and lacklustre in their efforts, that they didn't care how little effort they made against the turtles thereafter. However, they did not feel so dumbed down in the 94 red sky season, a bit tougher like in 87 season, and there is no explaination for that one.

Idiots provide for more comdey?

Its for this reason (and I know it is flawed) that perhaps that kind of animal you mutate with and its intelligence might effect your own intelligence, like that rat for example is a smart animal that needs to survive on its wits, so this could also be why Splinter (who was mutated with a rat) is still relatively smart, he was mutated with an animal that has to forage/hunt in order to survive and thus needs to be more intelligent, so maybe the mutation with Splinter and the rat really didn't affect his intelligence at all, like Bebop and Rocksteady. Also who ever commented on how ones over-all intelligence before mutation may factor in as as well. Bebop and Rocksteady didn't seem particualy intelligent before mutation. I know its flawed and I know, but humour me :ohwell: |
