RIP Tony Jay.
 

Tony Jay, Lord Dregg from TMNT and Megabyte from Reboot (among MANY other things) has passed away at age 75. :cry:

I loved that guy's voice.

First Paul Winchell, then John Friedel, then Mako and now Tony Jay. All the classic voice actors are dying out.

But that's the thing about voice actors, I guess. You can't really see them, so you almost forget that they age just like regular people.

Jay was probably one of the best voice actors of any generation, his performance as Megabyte was definitive.

You probably don't know who Tony Jay is, but you know his voice. The narrator of World of Warcraft, booming echo behind the Elder God in the Legacy of Kain series, narrator of the Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me, and the voice of Megabyte in the CG-animated series ReBoot from years back. On August 13th, Tony Jay lost his battle to recover from micro surgery.

Jay had entered micro surgery to remove a non-cancerous tumor in his lungs, where it was believed he could fully recover from the surgery, despite critical vital signs following the medical procedure. He is survived by his wife Marta and his son Adam.

So bye bye Shere Khan (Jungle Book films, Tail Spin, games, and House of Mouse), Lord Dregg, Megabyte, Nigel St. John (Lois and Clark), Dr. Lipshitz (Rugrats).

He will be missed.

That man was a fantastic voice actor, and he was wonderful in the role of the villian.

What I always thought was funny about Tony jay is...he really looked exactly like I expected he would. A distinguished old gentleman with a beard and glasses; a Sigmung Freud-esque psychiatrist appearance.

That always amused me about him, for some reason.

Tony Jay also had a great sense of humor. Like I said, he looked like such a serious person, but he always played so many silly roles in kid's cartoons.

Really gonna miss that guy.

I've never heard him in WoW... I'll have to listen to one of the opening movies again. Anyways, he was a great voice actor, and we'll all miss hearing him.

You never notice how people like this age, because all you hear is their voice. You never actually hear them age, because they're good at what they do. That alone is kind of sad in a way. I wish more people appriciated voice actors for their art. Very few get the respect they earned.

He had to be one of the coolest villain voices I've EVER heard. So classy and dark...

Oh...and he also voiced Chairface Chippendale in The Tick.

My condolences to Tony Jay. I've seen a picture of him in Micky's TMNT website, so i knew he was old. I did like his voice as Dregg, having this well-spoken but threatening tone of voice.
