Self Defense with a Walking Stick
Dunno if any of you have seen this, but I saw it and just had to share. :D
"Self-defence with a Walking-stick: The Different Methods of Defending Oneself with a Walking-Stick or Umbrella when Attacked under Unequal Conditions" Part I Part II By E.W. Barton-Wright From Pearson’s Magazine, 11 (February 1901), 195-204. http://img227.imageshack.us/img227/940/bw27smwd8.jpg |
Hmm...A classic staple of www.encyclopedia-obscura.com, alright.

I like how the picture shows two respectable-looking gentlemen in hats and suits duking it out with sticks. :tlol:
Maybe I'm just weird, but I was amused. Cool links though. I wonder if it's Splinte-sanctioned? :trazz: |
I have never heard from this before.. interesting tho'...makes sence
from now on I'll go out with a walking stick...and a hat..:P |
hmmm...I never saw anyone use an umbrella, but I guess it would work too...
Anyway, there was a guy that taught martial arts caning in my taekwondo dojang after hours. it's a legitimate weapon with actual hojandos and techniques. think.....jo staff. |
That looks like a mix from karate and modern fencing. I would rather compare it to hanbo, if I'm right the system of hanbo is more like infight and grappling.

Fencing with an umbrella is fun.
Too bad no one else in my closest environment understands that. |
Not until you pour in the siwucha. :D

That gif just screams damnhooligan. :(

That's pretty cool. It reminds of the Stick dude who trained Matt Murdock as a kid.

That has to be the best thing ever. Vile knave! :tpizza: |
*laughs* Oh god...when I first saw the title of this thread, my mind instantly screamed "MASTER SPLINTER!" But watching two respectible looking gentlemen duke it out with a walking stick is just as good. It sort of reminds me of Ju-Jitsu, when you can use your apponent's weapons against them. But back to this...I don't know where, but I've seen this before. I need to remember...
