TMNT movie TPB's!
 

Starting in January 23rd, 2007 you will be able to get TPB's regarding the movie. One is called "Legend of Yaotl" (apperantly an Aztec god).

I love that artwork. The TMNT that is. Those freaks in the background look like any old Japanese refuse.

That's the thing... they're Aztec gods, not Japanese! :lol:

They look Japanese. Especially the big guy. The cat thing on top of the guy on the far left could have been one of the Power Ranger robots. Wonder what they'd look like joined together.

Well they've encountered South American gods in the past....and the person in the cat thing looks like he/she represents Jaguar....and Jaguar was a friend of the TMNT in the Archie series.....

Altho it could be a lion..but the Aztecs were known for being quite elaborate in their outfits.... but somehow the Aztec god of Darkness has something to do with it...

He apperantly goes by MANY names and is associated with Jaguar!

Tezcatlipoca (tes-cat-lee-poh-ka) or "smoking mirror" was the god of the night, the north, temptation, sorcery, beauty and war. He was known by other descriptive names, such as Titlacauan (We His Slaves), Ipalnemoani (He by whom we live), Necocyaotl (Sower of Discord on Both Sides) and Tloque Nahuaque (Lord of the Near and Nigh) and Yohualli Èecatl (Night, Wind). When depicted he was usually drawn with a black stripe painted across his face, and is usually shown with his right foot replaced with a mirror made of obsidian or haematite. Sometimes the mirror was shown on his chest. He would carry four arrows in his right hand to punish the sins of man with. His hair was black and in the style of a warrior, as well as carrying a shield and weapon. He wore twenty gold bells on his ankles, and on his right foot he wore a deer hoof, representing his swiftness and agility. He appears on the first page of the Codex Borgia carrying the 20 day signs of the calendar; in the Codex Cospi he is shown as a spirit of darkness, as well as in the Codex Laud and the Dresden Codex. According to the Aztecs, he was also the god of discord and deceit as well as the god of robbers, but he was also the god of rulers, warriors and sorcery. He was associated with the notion of destiny or fate and with the jaguar, and was known for inciting wars between peoples.

He owned a mirror (Itlachiayaque – "Place From Which He Watches") that gave off smoke, killing his enemies; he saw everything and he punished wrong doers with illness and poverty, and rewarded good people with wealth and fame. He was the antithesis, rival, and eventually the twin of Quetzalcoatl. It was thought then when a baby was conceived, it was placed there by Tezcatlipoca to decided it’s fate; the day you were born on prophesised the success or failure in your future. How the child looked was also attributed to the whim of Tezcatlipoca. It was thought that he would appear at night as a shrouded corpse, a bundle of ashes or a headless man with his chest and stomach slit open, and anyone who was brave enough to rip out his heart could demand a reward for returning it.

Attributes of both Tezcatlipoca and Quetzalcoatl originally came from pre-Aztec traditions of the Olmecs and the Toltecs. The Aztecs assimilated them in their religion, and the two deities were equated and considered twin gods. They were both equal and opposed. Thus Tezcatlipoca was called "Black Tezcatlipoca", and Quetzalcoatl "White Tezcatlipoca". Mixcoatl was sometimes added to this complex as "Red Tezcatlipoca." Omacatl, Titlacahuan and Tezcatlanextia were also considered aspects of Tezcatlipoca; the four Tezcatlipocas were the sons of Ometecuhtli and Omecihuatl, lord and lady of the duality, and were the creators of all the other gods, as well as the world and man.

Jagwar and Dreadmon were the 2 main Aztec creatures in the Archie series. Altho Dreadmon was more or less a Jamaican wolf thing (he was born in Africa to a member of the Apartheid but raised for his own safety in Jamaica. But he was greedy and the gods transformed him into the greed)

Jagwar was the son of the Jaguar spirit and a mortal woman. And he lived (and was eventually joined by others) at an Aztec temple dedicated to Jaguar.

Jagwar and Dreadmon eventually formed their own group called The Mighty Mutanimals (altho most of the members weren't even mutants). They had their own spin-off comic for a time.

Other members of their group were Slash (an alien turtle), Leatherhead (changed from a human to an aligator thru magic), Mondo Gecko, Ray Man (a former Aquarium supervisor who was obsessed over Manta ray's so much that he became one when he encountered ooze), Candy (Mondo's human lover/girlfriend), Wingnut (an alien bat who's family was murdered by Krang), and Screwloose (an alien mosquito and best friend of Wingnut)

For a time they all lived at the Aztec temple before getting their own island. Donatello of the future helped them set up their HQ.

Unfortunatly they were all murdered (except Slash, who ended up sacrificing himself to save earth and poor Candy) extremely brutaly at the hands of 2 cyborgs.

The TMNT met Jagwar at the temple of the Jaguar but they met Dreadmon at a tepui (a south american mesa) where he, Jagwar, and the turtles helped and saved a tribe of primitive peoples (possibly actual Aztecs) from being slaves to Null (an evil demon who owned a corporation...he's the one who sent the cyborgs to kill the mutanimals).

The tepui held some secrets tho....like...Dinosaurs. :lol:

I grew up reading the Archie series. Characters like Jagwar and Ray Man were some of my faves.

So you were wondering what the Aztecs have to do with the TMNT? Now ya know....I did read somewhere that the TMNT go to the jungle at one point (the temple of Jaguar was in Brazil BTW)....so it looks like at least SOME aspect of the Archie series has been included in the new movie.

I dont really trust any "graphic novel"/"TPB" that only costs 3.99. Most TPBs are around 12-30 bucks.

Well...this is more for kids than anything else.

The artwork on the cover looks amazing. For some reason one of the gods in the background looks like Shredder...

I will buy it, but only if the Aztecs are replaced with Egyptain Gods! *cue to laugh evilly* :evilgrin:

In the Archie series the TMNT encountered gods and mutants of all sorts.... from Izanagi and Izanami (Japanese creation gods) to the gods of the 4 winds to a representation of Buddha (Charlie Llama, whom Splinter as Hamato Yoshi studied under for a while. Charlie eventually dies and is reborn in an infant...Donatello and Splinter provide assistance in the birth) to well Jaguar (who, after reading about him for the new movie, appears to be the god of just about everything. Altho in the Archie comics he's only refered to as a death god). They did indeed go to Egypt....but that's one of the issues Im missing.

They even befriended a Muslim eagle man while in Saudi Arabia (they also encountered him in Isreal).

interesting, i wonder if they'd spoil the movie though,

they could be pretty interesting short stories, like the little kids King Kong stories of what his life was like in the island were pretty cool.

Leonardo Returns: cuz he's been gone for a year studying under the Ancient One or something.

TMNT Movie Novelization: The most expensive of the books

Mikey's Nightwatcher Scrapbook and TMNT: The Nightwatcher: Nightwatcher is Raphael's "superhero" identity.

Legend of the Yaotl: I have heard that they go to a jungle. So apperantly they go to a South American jungle...

Either way I'll be buying all the books. I need to get the previous TPB's tho....thankfully they're available at Barnes & Noble (in the kids section! Argh! Why didn't I ever think to look there?! ). So...I guess I'll be walking over there sometime soon...probably in October when the Tales of the TMNT Vol 2 Book 1 TPB comes out. :evilgrin:

BTW: I like the look of the villains in that pic. I'm interested to see how the TMNT's battle these villains, and since these villains are aztec gods, it'll be cool to see if they have some sort of special powers.

I remember seeing those online about a month ago, and I'm really looking forward to the novelization :)
I'm gonna read it all the way up to the last few chapters when I find a good breaking point and then see the movie and find out what happens :D I want there to be at least some suprises when I see it in theaters. I wonder if they will switch around anything in the novel version, like they did in the X-men 2 novelization with Jean Grey.

Got an email from Dan Berger today stating that Mirage will be releasing SIX COMICS in March based on the movie.

So we're getting not only the 9 TPB's but SIX comics!! :o

are you guys gonna read the graphic novels before the movie comes out? I'm not sure if i wanna spoil it for myself or not.
