References in TMNT 2007

The New TMNT Movie board was beginning to become a ghost town so I'm here to bring everyone back into it. We haven't received any new information (like VA's) yet so I thought we'd do this. As we know, the film is a continuation of the previous films so what I want to know is what references, homages, throwbacks, etc. will they make in the new film. They've stated that they'll have little hints for the fans of the films, comics and toons. Let's just have some fun and speculate on what they could be. Here is my list of possible things. More will follow hopefully.

1. I'd like to see the first issue of the comic make an appearance. It'd have to be real subtle like in the background or something. Something that doesn't appear as such upon first glance.
2. Kevin Munroe mentioned taking scenes from the first film and making them into CGI and looking at how the voices now matched the movements. I'd like to see flashbacks in that format. Hopefully we can get other scenes as 'extras' on the DVD.

That's all I have for now. I'll think of more. In the meantime, think up some more and enjoy.

It'd certainly be interesting to see some classic moments recreated in this format.

I would really love it if, at the end, the TMNT would mirror their scene at the end of E&L TMNT 1.

I think I heard before that the newspaper/flyer that blew over the manhole in the teaser trailer was supposed to be issue #1. But, don't quote me on that.

I saw on the official site a toy of a van that Mike is supposed drive around in when he does kids birthdays. It says Cowabunga Carl on the side and the colors make it kind of resemble the Turtlevan.

Munroe said they would reference the third film, and the best way I could think of is one of the turtles, most likely Mike digging in a pile of stuff in the lair. He thows around various items. One of which should be the scepter.

I'd like to see or hear a reference that includes the creators last names as part of a location because would be a good homage to when one of the street punks said "Check out East Warehouse on Lairdman Island" to Chief Sterns towards the end of the (first) movie.

i want one of the fight moves from the first movie to be re created in this one, maybe the nunchuck challenge between mike and the foot soldier

You think it would be too much to ask for the entire first film to be recreated in CGI (I mean, think about it: you've done a few scenes...that's just tempting) and released with the new film on DVD kind of like a special feature. Once again, it's just a thought. It's not like that's going to happen. And yes, the 'battle' between the Mikey and the foot soldier would be classic if referenced. I'm pretty sure they'll reference Eastman and Laird. That's kind of like a given. If not vocally then as grafitti or something. I think a lot of the references will be real subtle, meaning we'll really have to look out for them. And that will require multiple viewings  . This thread is shaping up well. Keep it up.

yea, i agree, the nunchuck challenge would be pretty cool.

A thought just hit me. I thought it would be cool since Mikey is 'Cowabunga Carl', it'd be fun to see him driving along and listening to the radio and we hear snippets of "T-U-R-T-L-E Power" or "Ninja Rap". It'd be one of those things you either hear or miss. But if used, it'd bring a smile to my face. And yes, I realize Kevin Munroe said no Vanilla Ice but he's not really making an appearance.

A less obvious song would be better, I think. Baltimora's "Tarzan Boy" from TMNT III would be great. :)

Good thinking with the songs in the Van. And wow, that would be really cool to see the original movie done over in Cgi...I wish:-?

SLASH!!! 10-25-2006 10:58 PM

Mike: Come on Don you gotta make us something that can fly.

Don: And what would you have me make? A blimp.

Random thoughts about that song: I believe I heard it on that Listerine commercial first. Thinking it was a jingle (before I knew that jingles require lyrics), I was thrilled when it showed up on the soundtrack of TMNT III. After seeing the movie, I no longer cared though. But, just recently, I got the CD from eBay. Listening to the complete track, I have to say that I was disappointed. The chorus, to which the only lyric was a Tarzan yell, was the only exciting part of the song (and the only part that reminds me of the days when Listerine bottles used to swing through the jungle on vines :goof: ).

Back on-topic: Since this is supposed to be a family movie, I wouldn't be surprised at all if they have a stereo in the movie playing a song that mentions the turtles... Perhaps one of the two tracks from the animé to poke fun at the influence of animé on American culture today (but, only hardcore fans or Japanese-speakers will know that they are talking about the TMNT). That's awfully in-joke-ish, but it wouldn't detract from the yuppies'-- er, newbies' enjoyment of the movie (Whew! That was a close one. :sweatdro: :goof: ).

Slash, I love your reference. It's great. Little moments like that is what'll make the film great. Haha, the blimp. Keep them coming, these are great. The more I think about it, the references will probably be more dialouge related. I'm trying to think of some more.

Draconic 10-26-2006 02:52 PM

I want Mikey to come up with rediculous pizza toppings for his catering service. Also, I want him to say "Cowabunga" relentlessly until it becomes cool again! (j/k!)

But really, maybe a classic NES videogame playing on a grainy TV or something obscure like that. Maybe the beat to "ninja rap" playing on some guy's headphones or something brief but distinguishable.

Another song that would be good is ZZ Top's "Can't Stop Rockin'". Maybe some sandwich place, "Combat Cold Cuts" or a "Ninja Pizzaria" would be pretty sweet. Maybe some classic cars that vaguely resembles the Nutrino's vehicles. Maybe some 8-bit videogame sounding classic TMNT cartoon theme song... Lots of stuff would be great!

Thanks man, here is some others I thought of.

1)Mike: Turtle Power!

Raph: That was lame.

Mike: Hey it's a lot better than it's ninja time.

2)Mike: I had this weird dream that there was a girl turtle with us. Then the dream became a nightmare.

Spawn Guy 10-26-2006 05:31 PM

It'd be cool if Mike was forced to defend himself with a grappling line at some point. Or Don was working on an exo skeleton that looked like his cyborg body parts from the image series.

Ultimate Shredder 10-29-2006 01:55 PM

Maybe on of the song that Mikey could be playing is the old theme song! That would be awsome!
