Anyone Worried TMNT Will Fail?

I'm not really worried, but I was just thinking about this. If TMNT is a success, that means more shows, figures, movies, publicity, etc.

But what if it fails? They could pack up everything TMNT related and not ressurect it for 20 years. And even if it is a success, how long can TMNT stay around? I don't see it having the lasting power of a Spider-Man or Batman. Hell, the movie came out the same year as "Batman" did and if I say I like TMNT, I almost feel it's a guilty pleasure even though it shouldn't be...as where Batman is just a great well known character and movie in comparison in the minds of many.

Well Even if the TMNT cartoon will fail, The Mirage comic will stay.

And I know what you mean... Most people don't know the True TMNT, only the goofy pizza eating klowns. Stil almost everyone Knows that Batman is Dark. I think the problem is the way they made the first cartoon. Because they made it goofy, thats's how most people will remember it.

Batman TAS, on the other hand, were done Dark from the start. Of course the Great 2 first movies helped the Batman's Image too. Well Now Mirage is learning from it's mistake, And is doing a Darker TMNT show.

Exactly. It's all about perception. It's like the problem facing the Muppets; people think they are old news kiddy stuff. So there is work to be done.
Do you guys remember how by 1990 TMNT was beyond mainstream? Forget Power Rangers, these guys were like sickeningly mainstream. So it is nice to see em in a new light, to where they should be.

As for Batman, IMHO its like the first TMNT...this great dark and edgy late 80's film and then a bunch of horrific 90's sequels. So yes, good to see a much different take on the TMNT cartoon, from the character designs and story arc ideas this should be pretty darn good...and what weve been wanting for 12 and a half years.

Kids today are morons, who can't sit and watch anything unless it involves brightly colored monsters tring to kill each other. If it was on Cable, then they'd have a chance but only the old fans will probly keep the TMNT alive, that ot they have to go monster of the day if they make it to next season.

I know that has little to do with the topic, but its Fox, the show will be dead after 1 season probly, so enjoy it and pray they show the end more than once

Nah, I believe the show will have some success. Probably about as much as Jackie Chan Adventures (which doesn't have a monster of the week).

Karpo_007 01-16-2003 10:41 AM

Actually that Im what Im guessing too. Fox has a way of doing things that way. Well I haven't totally lost hope yet, But Im afraid that might happen.

By the way, is 4kids somehow connected to fox? If not, there is a chance it could continue on another channel.

HorseTechie 01-16-2003 11:09 AM

Or the question should be... when the TMNT fail as a mainstream attraction, will you still keep the faith?

IMO, the TMNT had never failed since they first came out. Us diehard fans won't let it! We just continue chatting amongst ourselves, writing stories, drawing pictures, and reliving the old times as if nothing ever happened. :D

Ninja Turtles Cartoon Fan 01-16-2003 12:11 PM

I'm most certainly worried the new cartoon will fail. While I hope it doesn't, there is always the chance that today's audience will think of the Ninja Turtles as passe, something that was popular a long time ago and that can't cut it in today's world.

Yeah, yeah, I know all the hardcore fans of the Ninja Turtles will tune in. I, myself, will probably check out the new cartoon just to get a feel for it. But will it have staying power?

We can profess our love for the Ninja Turtles all we want, but if the public doesn't warm up to it, our Heroes in a Halfshell are history.

Just because several of us here at the Technodrome forums want it to be a success doesn't mean millions of people around the world will want it to be a success.

Thw problem is, even if it becomes a success, It might not have a second season... Fox has made decisions like that manytimes.

Hi Gang,

The first series (season 1987 1988 1989 1990 1991 1992 1993 1994) was a very success, i remember when the TMNT exited in Italy all the child were crazy for the Turtles. They weren't publicized on TV but when i watched the first episode i loved them (i love TMNT also now).
The toys when exited in the shop without publicity on TV they ended as soon as they appeard.

I think that Movies worried pubblic and the last series of cartoon (Turtles grove, they are designed very bad) was a FLOP.

I think new cartoon series fail.
I think also that we are the last TMNT fan (we= people that were born in the years 1975 - 1987)

Donatello02 01-16-2003 02:34 PM

I don't think it will fail if they stick to the original plot of the comic. Also, if they DO make a new movie, it would be wicked kick ass if Wes Craven did it. Man, that would be the best. It would give TMNT a new meaning. Have like Krang or somethin in it. Maybe even Bacter Stockman.

Karpo_007 01-16-2003 02:36 PM

Well like I said, even if it is a success, it might not see a second season, atleast on Fox. I

Nickokapo 01-16-2003 03:02 PM

Yep i did thought about the new toon failing, and it's a big possibility but i don't think it will...
I don't like to speculate so i'll just wait and see what happens :D

Eye of Sarnath 01-16-2003 03:06 PM

It won't fail. Every time, the TMNT have proved to be very popular, if it's the cartoon, the comic books, or TNM. Why shouldn't this latest incarnation be popular? If things go like they have in the past, TMNT will soon be one of the most popular things.

Mondo_Gecko 01-16-2003 03:06 PM

I'm just gunna take it as it is and just see what happens

Thats true, the comic book was around after TMNT toys & cartoons left, even if the Image series wasn't all that much like the original one, it was still a TMNT comic book.

::nods:: Exactly. A friend of a friend that hangs out with everyone each tuesday was talking to me & a friend of mine 2 days ago. We began talking about the new TMNT cartoon show & he was really adament about it. He was like "Oh, great, another TMNT show, I'm not going to be watching that @#%$.". I showed him the new issue of ToyFare with the article about the new TMNT cartoon & explained to him that the pizza-lovin' surfer dude turtles weren't going to be in this cartoon. After looking through the issue he said it didn't sound that bad & maybe he'll give it a try.

So it's pretty true that most of the public still see them as that. Batman got turned around in the movies. The 60's show was goofy as anything, but the new movie was alot different- & darker too.

I dunno...TMNT is technically an 80's thing, and alot of 80's stuff (Transformers, G.I.Joe,Masters of the Universe, Thundercats, etc.) is back & still popular. The toyline came out in 88', & it's 2003 now, so thats been like 14-15 years since it's debut.

Hey, the original TMNT toyline lasted for, what, like 5-6 years? I know they had a 5 year aniversary in 92', so they managed to stick around for 5 years & then a few years longer then that. Whats not to like about mutant animals, aliens & robots running around? Thats fun, for anybody.

I honestly think it will do well, maybe not as much as it was in the begining, but it might do well enough to surive for another 5 year anniversary in 2008. :D

fail

I still have this nagging fear the Turtle rebirth might die out. I'm not terribly worried either because I accepted the Turtle's 'dying' on the market long ago (or at least part of me did...I still wish from time to time they were on full throttle :D )

Even if they never make another killing on the market again, I'm glad to know that there are still hundreds of loyal fans out there.

Dontebell 01-16-2003 03:45 PM

if the show do fail will playmate still make figures of them?

raphael90 01-16-2003 03:54 PM

figures

I would say no if the show fails, but what do I know?

I hope they make a cool line of figures! And I hope I can get 'em all before they become collector's items! :D

Karpo_007 01-16-2003 04:45 PM

Well The only problem here is FOX. I have fate that people will like the new show, even those who hated the old one.

Just speculating, but if FOX funds 26 episodes for the first season, It could be a good sign... Well let's hope for the best.
