Mako at the Oscars

Im watching the Oscars and one of the things I look forward to is the "In Memoriam" thing where they honor past hollywood actors, directors, ect that have died in the last year.

Mako was one of the people honoured!

I saw this!! Sad that he's gone, but glad to see him honored like this!!

It will for Best Animated. Though it'll have very stiff competition with Meet the Robinsons and Shrek the Third.

Meet the Robinsons is gonna be crap. The one to watch is Pixar's Ratatouille

Yeah but MtR is Disney, and they bribe they're way into the Oscar category.

But I do want to check out Ratatouille, Patton Oswalt is one of my favorite comedians.

I think it might get nominated... But Shrek's a monster. gonna be hard pressed to beat that, no matter what.

But hey, here's hoping, neh?

Rooish 02-26-2007 08:22 AM

Did Shrek and Shrek 2 win anything before?

Shrek yes.

Shrek 2 no - was nominated but lost to "The Incredibles".

Roseangelo 02-26-2007 09:03 AM

The Best Animated category was created just for Shrek, because they wanted to give it a prize without nominating it for best picture.

raphaelprime 02-26-2007 11:49 AM

Don't forget The Simpsons might get nominated too. Even though its 2D, im sure its huge enough to get a nomination.

Jester 02-26-2007 11:59 AM

It's just animation, bud. Any now live action movie can be nominated and win.

kerfootw 02-26-2007 12:01 PM

Other than Pirates of the Caribbean 3, I'll never watch anything Disney comes out with again. They were a spoiled, evil company under Eisner that couldn't make a good show and Iger's doing no better. If they release the second volume of Gargoyles Season 2, then I'll consider...maybe.

Out of curiosity, why did this mention deserve an evil grin? O_o

Are you sure about this? I thought they did the "Best Animated Film" category after Beauty and the Beast got a nod for best picture and lost. It does stand true that Beauty and the Beast is the first and only cartoon/animated film to be nominated for the best picture award. Too bad it didn't win...

Actually 1937's Snow White and the Seven Dwarves won an Oscar for Best Picture. It was also nominated for Best Music Score.

kerfootw 02-26-2007 08:51 PM

Guess I missed that part of the Oscars. At least half of the winners were bs including foreign film, costume design, music, and animated film.
Still, nice to hear that Mako was included in the honors. He was the main reason I watched Samurai Jack.

And about Best Animated. I do hope it's a nominee for the next Oscars...better yet, that it wins! That'll certainly send a message to those spoiled brats across the 'Net. Then again, I have been disappointed by the Oscars quite a number of times; but at least it'll do something.

ThemanthatwouldbeRaphael 02-26-2007 09:11 PM

This is gonna be a big year for animation.

Shrek the 3rd
TMNT
Ratatouille
The Simpsons Movie
Meet the Robinson
Bee Movie

Those will be the top canidates, and anyone of those could take it.

Arthur and the Invisibles is out because most of it isn't animation.

kerfootw 02-26-2007 09:16 PM

Oh boy! What competition! I hope MtR sucks big time and Disney gets sent a message!
It'll most likely come down to Shrek the 3rd (probably), Bee Movie, and hopefully TMNT if not Ratatouille. I don't see how they're going to pull off the Simpsons movie.

I caught it halfway, but did you notice Scotty was the only one to get a line in that whole montage apart from Kirk? :)

They must all be star trek fans :)
