First Vintage figure weapons: What's going on with them?
The weapons and gear that came with the first vintage figures don't look very good at all. I don't understand why anyone would really care about the old weapons, unless it's for collector's sake (which a lot of the time it probably would be.) I currently have my vintage turtles holding 2k3 turtle weapons, and it looks a lot better, IMO.
Now, as the vintage line continued, the weapons got better, like for Super Shredder. I like his gear. |
I think the OT weapons would have been better if thay had been painted, but I'm sure that was an unjustifiable expence, kinda like the blue and purple Shredder (since Laird wanted a vac-metal Tin Grin.)

They were flimsy and broke easily. It's as if they were made of cheap plastic or something....
|
Pretty much. They were more for display other than actual use if you ask me. The only weapon which was sturdy enopugh to actually be playable with was Donnie's Bo. Yeah and Shredder's blue and Purple Armor always bothered me...

I actually like the '88 weapons. Sure they were flimsy, but I'd prefer flimsiness over really bulky weapons, the thickness on the blade of the 2k3 Leo actually annoys me.
It would have been cool if the weapons were painted, but for an action figure line of the 80's, painted accessories were a reserved luxury. And I love Bebop and Rocksteady's weapons. To me the only weapons that came even close to being as cool as those down the track were Traag's, and he was only released a year later. |
Yeah, Donnie's bo staff was pretty good.
I agree, painted vintage weapons would have made them much better. Blue and purple Shredder looks good to me as a toy, but he's totally not show accurate. |
