TMNT adventures 1-30
I have heard a lot of good things about this series, but didnt get that much of a chance to ever read them. I have an opportunity to get my hands on issues 1-30 and I was wondering if it's a worthy part of the series. I've heard that it doesnt get good until later on. Fans opinion?

Yeah, there's alot of good stuff through that part of TMNT Adventures.
Including such things as-- The various mutants who become the "Mighty Mutanimals" are gradually introduced. As are various villains (either coming from the toyline, or completely new). And have other good guys, and neutral characters too. As for the stories, they're also good. |
Of course! The series lasted like about.. 50 or so issues, so getting the first 30 is like most of the series.

The introduction of Chris Allan as the artist really set a high standard. His art evolved over the period of the early 20s to the late issue 30s. His turtles started off a bit rounder but gradually slimmed down. Dean Clarrain's stories also contained a lot of depth, which also evolved over this span. If I remember correctly, the first 30 issues contain a few stories based off the old toon, but then after issue 4 or 5 goes in its own direction. New characters include Stump and Sling are introduced, as are Cudley the Cowlick, Leatherhead, Wyrm and Scumbug, Chameleon, Mondo Gecko, Man Ray (Ray Fillet), Jaguar, Wingnut and Screwloose, Kid Terra, Null, Maligna, , and lots of others. Also, the fate of Rocksteady, Bebop, and Krang are delat with, as the Turtles begin their adventures around the world which set up later storylines. I'd say the art is pretty cartoony, but you'll see how it evolves and deepens as the series goes on. I think this would be a great starting point with some quick and easy reads. If you then get into it, consider looking into later issues, and the storylines become deeper, greater, and more intertwined. :) Worth the price, in my opinion!!! Thanks everyone. :)

TMNT Adventures was great ever since it stopped being just another lame adaptation. It just got AWESOME sometime after #30.

Right, lot of good stuff over-all, but the later stories got better. And yes, only the beginning mini-series and issues 1-4 of the main series did cartoon adaptations. Issues 5-onward did original stories. |
Still, I find the mini-series to be a fun read. Krang is drawn kind of more menacingly than the toon IIRC. Plus it included this added dialogue, which makes sense. I mean, in the cartoon April squeezed through that thing as easily as those octopuses squeeze through small spaces.

I like TMNT Adventures a lot. Curiously, my favorite single issue is 31. My favorite arc is the Animus War, which takes place even after that (53-54). The plots are awesome, and there is quite a bit of character development. Totally worth it.

It's those dang boobs that made it tough!

mmmmmm...yeah, it was those dang boobs!
::all the girls are saying:: "Oh, will you boys STOP!" Yeah, there were some great story-arcs in that there Archie series. My fav as a kid was The Future Shark Trilogy. Does anyone remember or have 'The TMNT Meet the Conservation Corps'? That was one of my favs as a kid. I was bummed the CC only had that one mini-series. |
TMNT Advetures was like the perfected version of the Old toon, in my opinion. They started out on the same path, but the Archie comics far surpased it. Look at the two parallel versions of Slash. It's obvious wich is the superior variation. So yeah, I'd say that TMNTA is well worth the read. I just purchased multiple copies of most of those from ebay for my kids for christmas. It's the perfect all ages comic book for TMNT.
