My shop certainly didn't get it and it wasn't on the new release list I always check before going out.

Midtown has it listed as coming out next week. ATM it says it's out on Wednesday (Jan 23rd) but with a holiday on monday (MLK Day) I wouldn't be surprised if comics are delayed to Thursday.

Generally when Dan puts the books up it means they're coming out the next week.

Not too many businesses close down for MLK day, it'll probably be Wednesday.

I can confirm that it is out. I called my LCS and it's waiting for me now, and #41 showed up too.

Just read it. All in all very cool, a very Dan Berger-ish script that is never boring and what concludes in a way that will make you go, "Ahhh, now the issue makes sense!" Pretty clever, and yes, a great tie-in to early Vol. 4.

oldmanwinters 01-24-2008 05:48 PM

Not a bad issue!

Berger wrote a fun plot with a nice twist ending and Lawson's art was solid and well inked. Very funny dialogue keeping in character with Raph and Casey.Still would love to see Berger take another crack at penciling an issue, of course. I think Lawson's art is much better when he renders action scenes than when he tries to draw characters in static poses. Luckily, this issue was mostly just that, with a few pages of talking heads mixed in. Still wish he could work on tweaking human eyes and mouths though.

All in all, this issue gets a respectable grade of B. Would have gotten a B+ if it included a backup story. Even without it, however, Dooney's nice frontpiece made it close.

I don't want to speak for Dan, but I know his hand is in a very bad way right now... it is very painful for him to draw for any extended period of time. I know he'd love to if he could, though, but with his current duties who knows how much extra time he's afforded.

Which is too bad. His TMNT is just as recognizeable as the Eastman/Laird version, only with a little bit of an added edge of... I don't know, something eye-winking and sinister about it all. Love it.

Ha! I couldn't have said that any better myself! That is a perfect description. That's awful news about his hand, though, I hope it gets better.

Seeing as how I literally just got my hands on issue 40 finally yesterday, it might be a while before I get 41 OR 42.

So make with the spoilers, people!

Spoiler:
The context is soon before TMNT Vol.4 #3. Casey is under interrogation from the feds, or so he thinks. They promise to pay him off if he can tell them his recent experience with UFOs and alien life. He proceeds to tell me how he and his friend, "Raphatello Nardoangelo" were out wandering the woods and playfully demeaning each other in "philosophy." Suddenly, a UFO crashes in front of them. Raph points out asutely that it isn't exactly a UFO anymore, A 10-foot mechanical monster who looks like a demented Iron Giant emerges from the ship and starts attacking for no good reason. They use their heads and fists to defeat him and he escapes in his ship. The feds are a little surprised at Casey's cavalier attitude towards alien life, but he assures them that everybody believes in aliens. The feds are satisfied and send him home with 5,000 dollars in check.

But the feds are not as they appear...

DrSpengler 01-26-2008 12:17 PM

A fun issue. Berger's script was the real strong point, with lots of fun and snappy dialogue. Lawson's art never killed any of the comic timing, but I think the gags would have worked better had it been more expressive.

Still a fun comedy relief issue, which I enjoy from time to time.

VaughnMichael 01-27-2008 09:06 PM

Noice..went all the way to the only comic shop in the area that gets tmnt comics for me as well as stocks at least 3 more issues besides the one I get and not a single copy of #42 not even in my sub. box.
I love wasted trips and wasted gas.

Scandia 01-29-2008 03:54 PM

I saw it coming that the Feds were who they really were.

The robot looks just like Serling. Hence the cartoon reference.

And Casey says "D'oh" and mentions Mary Kate being the cute one.

Rooish 01-30-2008 05:07 AM

Yeah, I liked her best when she was the tomboy, but now that she's anorexic I'm not much of a fan anymore. ;)

Raph's Girl 02-01-2008 11:05 PM

Ok now where the heck are the Utroms disguised as FBI agents willing to give ME 5 grand for a story?! :o And Casey didn't think anything of it just being handed that much money. Pft...

Thanks-- dimbulb me, I could NOT think of what cartoon robot they were referring to-- gad, I'm so blind. I even wondered about it in a letter to Mirage! I kept trying to think of all the cartoon robots I'd seen over the past few decades.

Very nice story, and I enjoyed Casey's being the one to put the pressure on so to speak.
