What else could they have called it?

I know Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles isn't the most serious sounding name, but it fits all mediums of the franchise well. I was just wondering earlier if Eastman and Laird threw around any other ideas of what to call this crazy comic book/cartoon/movie series.

From what I've heard in interviews it seems that Ninja Turtle was the title given to Eastmans first turtle, then Laird upped it to Teenage Mutant...
I guess any combo of the words could work, but I can't think of any that are as catchy. Any ideas?

Sidenote: I'm happy as hell that Shredder didn't stick with his original title of Grateman :dead:

I think, if anything, they could have stuck with just Ninja Turtles. Then you lose the Teenage stigma.

Scandia 03-16-2008 03:24 PM

Or just plain Mutant Ninja Turtles. They are not teenagers anymore anyway. Although TMNT can stand for "Thirtysomething Mutant Ninja Turtles", since that's what they are now.

Honestly when I hear "shredder" and really think about it, it sounds kind of corny. Why would he call himself that. To someone who doesn't know tmnt, shredder probably sounds like some kind of office or kitched appliance.

Most comic book names are corny, I never had a problem with Shredder.

"Wonder Woman," "Riddler," "Dr. Octopus" are all corny names, the only reason it doesn't seem that way is because we're so used to them. And because they're from the first half of the century.

Fantastic Four, Penquin, Mr. Freeze, Bizzaro, Sandman, Electro...

List goes on :)

The Shredder sounds cool to me - it's like a sharp tool shredding meat and mauling flesh everytime I heard it, or maybe I'm just morbid. :p

Other than tmnt...nope, can't think anything as catchy at the moment. Teenage Reptile Ninja Turtles, Justice Group Teen Turtles, Teen Titans, Teen Amphibious Reptile Turtles..nah, all lame.

are you kidding man! The Shredder is a perfect name for a ninja covered with metal accessories containing big sharp gauntlets :P!

Buslady 03-16-2008 10:06 PM

Shredder is corny, i think of a paper shredder or cheese grater which where the idea for him came from

Coola Yagami 03-16-2008 10:16 PM

Ha! You wouldn't be Shredding anything if it weren't for me!

Revan 03-16-2008 10:38 PM

I suppose shredder isn't so bad. But I think that is because he is best baddie there is. What is worse is when the ninja tribunal refers to the demon saki and "the true shredder."
sounds a bit goofy to me.

Shark_Blade 03-17-2008 06:28 PM

lol what's next? "The true blender"? More kitchen appliances galore.

It could have been worse. It was almost "Grate Man".

You thought about that way to long Cure.
:P

Just Ninja Turtles is okay with me.

Lord Nightwalker 03-19-2008 07:16 PM

Ninja Turtles is fine by me.

TheUltimateShredhead 03-19-2008 07:29 PM

Yeah! ninja turtles sound ok, and tmnt is often preffered to the term.

Mr._Mutant_Man 03-19-2008 10:08 PM

The Ninja Turtles.

Or Teenage Ninja Turtles, that way the acronym would have been TNT. It doesn't sound as neat without the "mutant" though.

AquaParade 04-13-2008 05:27 PM

Am I delerious, or was there some concept art for "grateman" at one point...I might just think that from my first time hearing the concept name though.

Anyways...I think Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is a truly awesome name...I love it...long, kinda dumb, fun, and just...awesome!
