TMNT reached its peak?

This is a pretty broad thread, but I just had to make it. Do you guy's think that our four brothers have reached their peak in tmnt media? I assume a lot of you might think the old comic might have been the peak, and even though that's where it all began, and where the best stuff (IMHO:D) is, I can't help but feel like there's so much untapped potential in tmnt that I can only hope will one day be reached. I gotta say, I think that potential I see is one of the things keeping me around for this property. I think what Kevin and Peter created is awesome, and they did a good job with it, but I also believe what they did even better was create something with so much potential, maybe too much potential for even them to handle. I dont know guys, I just had to get this out. I'm waiting for the right person to come around and make tmnt the most beautiful property that I know it can be...It just has'nt lived up to its potential at all is what I'm trying to get across. What do you guys think?

ToTheNines 04-13-2008 07:14 PM

As far as popularity goes I don't think it'll ever surpass the 89-92 era, but if were talking about quality I'm just sitting back and waiting for whatever comes next, hopefully something really great will come along.

Warhorse 04-13-2008 07:49 PM

It's hard to tell. I still think with the right supporters and mind set, there could be a version of the turtles that will reach out to everyone and bring them back into the spot light. If the Transformers can do it, don't see why the Turtles couldn't.

I do agree that TMNT reached its popularity peak when I was in junior high from 1989 till 1991. I do not think it declined sharply till after the OT and the Archie comic ended in 1996, though.

TheUltimateShredhead 04-14-2008 08:53 AM

I would concider tmnt classic! I think tmnt will last for more generation with new generation of fans! I made a similar thread a while ago http://forums.thetechnodrome.com/showthread.php?t=23548

General Traag 04-14-2008 09:51 AM

Yeah, the popularity had its peak in the late 80's/early 90's, i remember everybody atleast knew what the tmnt was that days.

Today it's all about animes as far as i can tell, and except maybe 'one piece' i don't know any of those. :h

AquaParade 04-14-2008 05:42 PM

The thing is, I wasn't even talking about popularity...I just think no one has exectuted with the tmnt in a way that brings out all their potential.

Like I said, with the right supporters to back up our boys in green, the sky is the limit to what they could accomplish. Let me put it this way. I have yet to meet someone who hates the Turtles. I bring them up or happen to wear one of my TMNT shirts to work, and I always get a "wow, I love those guys!" They are a bunch of very likable characters, have great stories to tell. It's just the producers need to quit treating them as just for kids!

Are you serious? People make fun of me for being a turtle fan all the time. Alot of peeps are haters!

I got so many "you're gay"'s when I had organized a movie night on opening day of the film with my friends. Plus most hardcore geeks really don't respect TMNT as a comic or animation franchise.

CyberCubed 04-14-2008 07:11 PM

That's interesting, I've never come across anyone who really hates them either. I've seen people who don't care about them, but not really hate them.

Granted I'm in College so most people were like me, kids when the original cartoon came out so we remember it fondly in our youth.

I guess its just the new younger generation who don't like it since they didn't get to see too much of the old toon and apparently don't watch the new one either.

Same here tuns of people have hated on the turtles until I showed them the new show or the mirage comics.
It's the only toon that makes everyone think the turtles are kiddy fodder.

Yeah, most people don't even know about the NT and hardly anyone I know will touch a comic book.

The key is to take the "old comic" "where it all began" that is "the best stuff"... and bring that vision into other media.

Hasn't been done yet. Hasn't even been tried.

Well as a ninja turtle fan you should have know Naruto at least.

P.S. Are you guys kidding???? I thought TMNT is a little lobivia just about to bloom. o_0
Why do I think this way? Well... haven't you sense the balmy(???) air of the computer age? It smells like future! Our visionaries are still on their track to explore and investigate; a number of fresh stuffs are successively surging out; the old time is classic, so the neo time is going to stand on the shoulder of Giants! C'me on, our visionaries never give up because they still believe in us, we shell never let them down in return because they are our only hope!

Coola Yagami 04-14-2008 09:08 PM

Same with me. I don't think anyone I know actually hates the Turtles.. they just either see them as childish or just don't care.

I'm not sure... but maybe the new TMNT film should have been done with actors. Pump uo the CGI to the max and have them interact with real people or something. Or use the suits. If the suits looked bad-ass in the 90's, imagine how improved they woulda been now. I mean people made such a big thing over the Spiderman and Batman movies, and everyone will be loking forward to Iron Man and whenever they make another Harry Potter... but the TMNT CGI movie was seen as just another kiddy toon movie.

I agree...I think in the pages that Kevin and Peter created lies so much more potential then what's been accomplished even IN that book, or any other media since.

Yes I have been thinking of the same thing. Remaking Batman serious and dark the way it is in the comics has really worked well. Much better than the other cheesy Batman films. All of the great movies utilizing CGI and live action prove that a non kiddie TMNT film could be made that portrays them in a more serious manner like in the mirage comics. It would be cool to see a new live action film that appeals to an older crowd.
