Flashback episodes!

I love flashbacks! I recently watched episode "Reflections" from 2k3 followed by episode "Blast from the past" in ot:tcool:! to bad there aren't to many flashback eps in tmnt:tsad:

I don't mind them if done well, but I don't care for flashback episodes usually because they are just filler episodes and really don't move the story along at all.

It depends. Some flashbacks are just filler, sometimes they add some new and interesting stuff we didn't know before. In the case of a show like Lost, flashbacks were an important part of filling in information about a character. Same with a comic like Watchmen, too. Actually, I'm wondering if the writers of Lost wanted to have that kind of format based on how Watchmen had a lot of flashbacks.

Anyway, flashbacks in the old toon seem to be okay, since just about every episode was stand alone anyway. Earlier episodes seemed to be linked, like with that crystal thing, but most of the time it seemed to be stand alone stories.

Yes like I said some are ok, the old toon one is ok, don't care for the 2k3 one though it doesn't add anything though it's sort of just a recap of everything.

I haven't seen much 2003 yet. I remember seeing Tales of Leo and thought it was pretty good. I don't have too much trouble with filler when it's well written, and in the case of that episode with the turtles' back story I'd say it was.

TheUltimateShredhead 04-19-2008 10:58 AM

I strongly suggest you to see the to episodes in context;)

I love both the old and new toon fb episodes. I love the farm episodes, plus "Reflections" had an awesome opening sequence. Also it was nice to just see everyone lounging about on a nice day for a change. "Blast from the Past" had a pretty humorous story going along with it. Though the animation change from flashback to present was kind of jarring. I wish I could learn the cur-lee maneuver..

I like most flashback episodes- as long as the flashback content is gone.

I do like episodes that show things from the past- such as Tales of Leo and The Lesson.

I hate clip shows with a passion.

I love flashback episodes! LOL! I don't know why but I used to wait for Blast From The Past to come on when I was younger. Week after week after week until it FINALLY came on! haha!

I'd like to have had more in the OT, although maybe not to the degree of BftP but maybe just a clip or two.

What exactly to you mean by "filler" episode. Every episode from the current series has added something to that canon. Even the goofy ones. Personally, I'm not a fan of the justice force episodes and they seem "filler."
I like the flashback eps. It's cool to fill in earlier events in later tales.

ToTheNines 04-20-2008 10:58 AM

I guess they aren't bad when you think of it from a different perspective.

I mean, being a hardcore fan means I don't need to be filled in on what has happened already because I already know. But since TMNT gained most of it fans during the 3rd season it was nice of them to throw in a clip show, and I guess the NT did it after the first season I'm sure some kiddies had jumped on board late.

I actually like clipshows for comedy's since they're actually funny, but for an action series it's just a watered down re-telling of what's up for the kids who are new to it.

You know Neautrino I just took your points away again...happy?
So you know I've been one of the few people besides Peter himself trying to make people see that everything in 2k3 and FF is linked or related or intertwined together.
When I say that "Reflections" is a filler episode it's them taking a break from the story in my eyes to catch people up or kids who they think are to dumb to remember the story thus far.
This is the only episode that didn't add anything to the story at all, it's all stuff we all know already.
Sure it's nice it had new animated bits but as long as it's repeating stuff we know I will consider it the only filler episode.

I think we're all forgetting the "Next Mutation" clip show episode. I forget the title, but I remember it was pretty lame...

mos def. I seems like they tried to add a little something in there. We see the boys training and Leo learning that the lesson is never over or something like that. And a little progress in casey and april's relationship.:P
