Let's face it

Let's face it people, The Ninja Turtles were a child of the 80's, without them, the Turtles are lacking. It's interesting to see how the new cartoon's characters are adapted to the new millenium, but let's not forget that with the advent of AI and thinking computers, idiots now have an excuse to become even more stupid then they already were.
This is what I fear will happen with the new cartoon. If they have references to media and current styles and trends, the shows goning to suck, with a vengence. You can already see it with April O'neil being a preppy 16 year old sex pot. I really find that stupid.
But the thing that probably got to me the most was the "Shell Phone". Why? Couldn't they just say 'Turtle Comm" like in the original cartoon? No. Of course not, because today's cartoons are terrible, and I want them burned. I have fond memories of the days when I turned on the TV and knew the first thing I saw would be a mutant turtle or a Thunder Cat beating the crap out of something and not having any relation with the media. The worst you could expect from an 80's cartoon is an air-head Madonna parody with a helium voice.
But I have this odd feeling all cartoons these days are just gonna start saying witty zingers like "You're scheme is a total failure, Shredder! Just like George W. Bush's life up until 2000!" And then the Shredder would throw a gas grenade at them or something and escape while saying "This is my final answer! WAHAHAHAHAHA." And then, kids, let's face it: the world will end.
So please, write your Congressmen and demand that cartoons be made 22 minute long toy commercials again, so we can enjoy them heart and soul.
I'm not saying the new turtles cartoon is bad, (except for the opening credits) I'm just saying that there are some sad excuses for cartoons out there and don't let something as kick ass as the turtles fall to ruin like that crap-fest "Transformers Armada" or "Yu-Gi-Oh". The End.

Karpo_007 02-19-2003 04:17 PM

Again, I hear some useless complaining. Neither April's look or the name of the phone affects the telling of the story any way. For what we have seen now, the show seems great, and has potential to become even greater.

Eye of Sarnath 02-19-2003 04:19 PM

God. This is a stupid thread. That's all I can really say. If ya don't like the new show

THEN DON'T WATCH IT.

Easy enough, right?

One Radical Dude 02-19-2003 04:27 PM

Right on, Karpo. I, myself, view this as useless complaining. But that's Voltron's opinion, though. If that's how he feels about it, let him be. As for me....I think the show is great. :thyper:

Eye of Sarnath 02-19-2003 04:31 PM

It is his opinion... but he doesn't have to force it on us.

Karpo_007 02-19-2003 04:32 PM

Well I just find it odd that people will complain about such minor details. The new show is not Mirage, or the old toon. Accept it for what it is.

DarthRaphael 02-19-2003 04:33 PM

Wah wah. This is not the 80's anymore. Sad, but true.

What makes you think that the new episodes will be over-full of pop-culture references? The fact that they recognize current technology? OMG, they said cell phone!! Cartoons are over as we know them!!!
And April, geez, a 20-something woman can't wear a half-shirt without being ridiculed for trying to be 16? And the yellow jump suit half unzipped down the front is OK? How many times did Mikey catch an eyefull of cleavage??
I personally think it's better if the show focuses on story, not toys like some other **cough**Transformers Armada**cough** cartoons I have seen.

heretic888 02-19-2003 05:47 PM

hmmmm

remember, though, not all opinions are equal. if they were, then that puts the Klu Klux Klan and Mahatma Ghandi on equal footing and revelance. they most certainly are not.

also....the very view that all views are equal is hypocritical. it is the major flaw of postmodernism. look at it this way: they say no view or opinion is any better than another view or opinion. but, if this were true, then the view that all views are equal is in fact NO BETTER than the view that all views are not equal. thus, by their own standards, the deconstructionists are deconstructed.

bah. im rambling.

tmntpower2003 02-19-2003 05:52 PM

what a idiot  they wanna use today's jargin such as shell phone to relate to todays kids

Tokka-B 02-19-2003 05:55 PM

That is kinda the point heretic....duh.

Voltron 02-19-2003 06:27 PM

Ouch

I didn't say I didn't like the show. If you could read beyond a preschool level that would have been made clear. What I am complaining about is that the 80's made the Turtles what they are. You morons misinterpret, but I'll go for another pass here. Simplified, of course.
Me think show good!(Hell, I've been waiting forever for another TMNT series other than that stupid ass "Next Mutation") Turtles me think are cool! Me no like "Shell Phone", "Turtle Comm" better! April look like classy whore, me no like! Me think 80's dated sayings make show better! Persecute Voltron if want, Voltron think you asses if can't understand simple statement.
You go ape **** on me for saying that the 80's were cool; but I'll be a monkey's uncle if anyone who commented doesn't have a minor quarrel with the new show, however small and insignifgant it is.

heretic888 02-19-2003 06:38 PM

heh

I have a small problem with the show... but its not because im living in the past.

DarthRaphael 02-19-2003 06:45 PM

Man, nice way to start out noobie.

So, Me no thinkie dat new stuff from current day hurts da show none.
80s stuff good in 80s, current stufff good in current eps.

So you want the new show to use 80s references? You also seem to be saying that the TMNT concept can't be successful past 1989 and anything outside of your childhood in the 80s isn't as good.

Don't call us asses because we don't agree with you.
I can't find ONE thing to complain about. Even the frickin theme song is stuck in my head. IT is MY OPINION that this new series is much better than the old series. People are nitpicking it in comparison to what they liked in the old toon. We have had 150+ episodes of the old toon. Let it RIP.

Donatello02 02-19-2003 06:52 PM

I loved the old cartoon, that's where all my turtle memories come from, but good God man, it's done. It's over. It's gone. It will be missed, but it's up and left. Now it's time for a new cartoon, and one that from the look of it it a lot better. Move on. If you can't deal with that, then you got issues.

squid vicious 02-19-2003 07:29 PM

:goofygri: not to nitpick but the turtles only had two years as an 80's cartoon. the majority of the eps are from the 90's

Shadow 02-19-2003 08:35 PM

As I'm sure most of you will agree but I wanted to throw my mangos in the bucket...

In my opinion I don't think you can compare the two. Yes they are both Turtles...but they are created with very different audiences in mind. The old one was created for products of the eighties and early ninties. During that time many differenet things were going on...anime had not hit yet, what was or wasn't funny was different...and technology was different. Remember twards the end of the old show how April finnally got a computer with a mouse connected to the internet?! Its changed a lot in the last 10 years, but we don't see it because we lived through it..

However, the new cartoon is made for a very different group of people. OLD AND NEW FANS ALIKE. Which means it is expanding and improving upon an oldie but a goodie. It isn't trying to be better than the old one...but be as good for the new generation as it was for the old one...and in order to do that there must be updating and changing.

Both are great shows in their own rights...I will cherrish them BOTH

beaker 02-19-2003 09:16 PM

As much as I *wish* it were the great year of 1989, its the future(doesnt 2003 sound like the future? Wheres the flying cars?)

I think the new April looks very cool(and quite hot!) And yeah, calling it the shell cell is very lame(Sorry, I HATE cell phones...I liked the world better before everyone and their goldfish had one) but c'mon...at least theyre not saying "dude, that's hella sick and tight dawg!" Modern slang has NOTHING on the rad/bad/bogu to the max days. Anyways, ya gotta soak in at least a few more episodes to make any sort of judgement. I look forward to seeing episodes two and three this saturday.

I agree.

It's NOT the old toon. It's new.

If they wanted it to be exactly like the old one, they would've just re-aired them. But that's not the case. They want somehting fresh - somehting that will appeal to a new generation and somehting that also appeals to the old fans.

I think they have done quite well in doing so.

Besides, no one said you couldn't watch the old series, and play with the old toys.

The show rocks! Turtles count it off! :D

That Matt Guy 02-19-2003 09:35 PM

Man, its just a cartoon! If you don't like it then don't watch it.
