Tales of the TMNT 49

Midtown is listing Tales 49 as coming out Wed aug 20th. Here's what the official site says about it:

Quote:

“Mind Games ” - In this issue we finally discover what actually happened when the TMNT went west to save Raphael from the clutches of D.A.R.P.A. (as seen in TMNT Volume Two)! Mr. Braunze returns to New York with a deadly pack of villains on his trail, and only the Turtles can save him from a fate worse than death! It's a psionic shootout of epic proportions!

Sweet! Now, if I can only read all the pertinant issues of Vol 2 BEFORE 8/20, so I can understand what the shell's going on...

Andrew NDB 08-14-2008 07:22 PM

I've been looking forward to this one, actually. There's a lot left in the air after #13 of Vol. 2.

Anybody read this? I stopped by my comic store on my lunch break today but they didn't get it in this week.

I got mine last night, Mike's cover was fantastic! Really great nod to Doc Savage (which is acknowledged in Dan's editorial too). I loved seeing Mr. Braunze again. I think he's one of those characters that deserves more court time in the comics. Jim's on top of his game with the art, Dan's done a great job with all the characters and the whole thing reads pretty well. My only problem was that it's been a little while since I read vol.2, and some things have been happening over here that've had my head a little filled at the moment, so my memory was a little fuzzy on a few details. That said, I know it'll probably read a lot better once I pull out my Vol.2 comics and reread them too!

I thought this issue was okay. I'm a little lost though, as I never got to read Vol.2.

Andrew NDB 08-22-2008 07:44 PM

Brilliant, a great endcap to Vol. 2. Vol. 2 really does sit "right" with me now, beginning to end.

Still a bit unsure... did Nobody really die right there in Vol. 2, or was that part of the false memory?

I loved Mike's cover art!! I love Mike's art, period! The story was cool, but like Tristan said it's been a while since I read Vol. 2. Dan is an excellent writer so the issue's plot is not convoluted to the point that you must read Vol. 2 to get any enjoyment from it.

I wish that cover was a poster, I can't stop looking at it! :D

Could someone provide spoilers? And to clarify (since this had been a point before) I am not asking for people to use spoiler tags, I am asking for actual spoilers.

Man, I didn't know this was out. My comic shop once again failed to pull this for me!

odupianist 08-25-2008 06:56 AM

mine will probably have it in like a week or so, they're always a little late.

twopinacoladas 08-26-2008 07:29 AM

I still dont have all of vol 2, I am probably missing 4 books maybe i should wait to read this... I have put off reading them until I get them all. Maybe ill have to put an order in to Mirage I believe they have the rest on their site...

I just got this today, I loved the cover even though it was differnt from what was shown on the site before, but I can not complain about them using a Dooney cover over a Lawson one even if it is a bit missleading.
Now about the issue I found it a bit pointless as it didn't really tell us anything we couldn't figure out for ourselves by reading volume 2 and I hated the fact that they added 2 new characters into the series that we didn't even see before.
The only thing I enjoyed from it was that the Purple alien and the Triceratons where used again.
So like I said before this issue seemed a bit pointless as it didn't really cover what it was supposed to be about, I was expecting some flash backs and such.

Evenstar227 08-28-2008 07:14 AM

Finally got to read this last night. Though the only issue of Vol 2 I've ever read is the last one, I was able to understand the story fairly well. I'm glad it explains why Leo woke up on the couch all of a sudden when they were in the desert previously, though I'm still a bit confused about the explosion at the end of Vol 2. Did that actually happen, or was that one of Braunze's false memories?

I agree, the cover was fabulous!

odupianist 09-02-2008 07:15 AM

I got it last week but I don't feel like I got anything substantial out of it. As soon as I started to get into it, it was over. Sad times.

Good point...but it seems in Vol 4 when April became Nobody's Girl that they were indicating that Nobody really died. Course he could still be around and just retired. Who knows....dodododododo.

It was an interesting issue even tho I've only read the plot outlines on the website of this vol so I understood the basics at least.

DragonDavy1 09-19-2008 02:45 PM

I'm trying to get back into my comics so I ordered a few back issues from Mirage and I should have them by next week, 49 was one of them!:D
