New Paleo Patrol Mini? Leo vs Raptor

Okay, I was just at Family Dollar to get some candy (there's one a couple blocks from my house, and a small one at that), and I saw this "new" Mini Turtle collected big box figure... basically it was the mini Leonardo with, what I'm guessing, is a reused Dinosaur from the regular sized Paleo line.

Now, usually I'd say, "oh boy, here comes Playmates being playmates" but it caught my eye for 2 reasons... It was, ironically, cheaper than the regular mini-mutant line (by a buck, actually), and I was going to get the Paleo minis eventually, but I have a thing about toy bugs. This thing looks like something TRU would overprice, but it was only 5 bucks....

We don't have Family Dollars in this part of the US... I wonder if there's any chance of it coming to any other stores....

Hmmmmm...that was the only one they had though? How many did they have? Did you buy it?

SOmetimes they're also called Dollar Generals, if that helps.

1) That's apparently the only Turtle/ Scale Dinosaur they made. I went through a pile of them, and Leo was the only one.
2)Tons of them. I'd say at least over 10 at a very low estimate
3)Are you nuts? I had to take out a loan just to get the candy bar!

Don't have those, either.

If I get to Dollar General I'll pick up a couple of them (if I can) and reserve one for you if you need me to, S...

Might be a good idea. Hopefully they come to some venue this way or crop up on eBay for a reasonable amount, because I plan on getting a few...

It really is a shame that not all the Turtles come like this. Actually, this is a much better use of the large plastic dinos that were shoved into tha Paleo Patrol line.

They really need to make a paralell TMNT type toy line consisiting of the random characters like this.

Well, this probably won't be the only one...but maybe they want to see how many Leo vs. Raptor sets they can sell before releasing another one.

Well, if this item is indeed exclusive to Family Dollar/Dollar General/whatever, that isn't a good business decision (then again, look who I'm talking about), since they wouldn't be selling the item in all 50 states.

Don't worry I was at Dollar General today and picked up six of them, one of which I hung on my wall, the other five of which I am about to list on e-bay for those of you who are interested...

Have at 'em...

I felt if I got more than two, I'd be greedy. Plus my wallet would be like NOOOOO PAY BILLS!

Well they have two watchers, and even if the remaining three sets don't sell, I could always use the Raptors for my army...

Well, the original mini line (The M.U.S.C.L.E./ MMIP) did gangbusters there. And there was quite a few total exclusives that weren't available anywhere else... the Weightlifting turtles and like that.

But then again, this is basically a repackage of 2 previously released toys, as were the movie TMNT micro-line (released as a bigger set in TRU). So it isn't like they made something specifically new specifically for them.

(though, come to think of it, Walgreens had the micro line at one point. I remember getting the micro Foot Soldier there)

I have two of them left, and when I come into some money I'll be looking for more.

I don't think any other TMNT figures, except maybe this Leo/Raptor thing, have ever been exclusive to stores I've not had access to. Excluding the Robo-Hunter and M.E.S.S. Turtles (which I've been told have been at Toys R' Uses), I've seen every Turtle variant in stores at one point or another.

So I got this thing today, and it confirmed what I thought... the Dino was reused from the original Paleo Patrol line. It has 2005 Mirage Studios/Playmates (or whatever) stamped on the dino's tail.

Somehow, I wonder why they didn't think of this before... after all, it is a much better idea than random non-TMNT plastic dinos with random armor stuck to them sitting on the pegs...

I know, making different random army builders out of repainted old ones. It's a wonder they don't release the Prototype Mousers from the first 2K3 game (they were green) or some other army builders repainted.

Considering the Frosty reception the Dinosaurs had, I'm just saying, why weren't they just double packed with the turtles to begin with? Sort of like what they did with some of the movie generals... only much, much cheaper.

That said, the raptor has a nice little chain on it that can fit quite easily into any mini-turtle's hand. In other words, Leo's got a pet Dino, and New York has strick leash laws...

Damn, I wish I had a digital camera...
