Hypothetical Theory
I got to thinking. Let's say that a major network (NBC, Fox, ABC, they're all good) decided to pick up the Turtles for a prime time show. It would be live action very similar in tone to the first movie, but maybe with a couple of deaths here and there. Production values would also be very good, and we would have excellent looking costumes, and fight scenes. A few thoughts.
1. Would major audiences be ready for this kind of version? I mean would there be enough staying power to compete with shows like Heroes and Lost? Or would it just get lost in the shuffle and have people dismiss it as another attempt to cash in on the franchise? 2. What kind of stories would be good for a new show. They honestly can't keep showing their origin story, RtNY, and CaW forever and recycle these stories in every incarnation (please don't blast me on this. I love all these stories). Should they try to go for a new origin like in the OT (remember this show would be darker than the OT so they can explore with it.) And could they introduce new stories and not upset the die hard fans? Would it be feasible and wise to start a prime time TMNT show? |
They probably could do that, but done RIGHT.... Remember, Shredder would have to die in the FIRST episode. Zog is supposed to be there during Return of New York... and City at War should include the Rat King, Gabrielle, Casey and be 13 parts. I mean 2K3 did copy alot of comic stories, but they really did jump back and forth with the order of the events.

13 parts...that could almost be...dare I say it....a season. :P
I guess the other question would be is this a 1 hour series, like Lost and Heroes. If TMNT is done right as a live action (or hybrid) 1 hour prime time series, it'd be great. |
It all depends. It also has to be marketed towards the teen/aduly crowd. No more kids crap. Let those swords and sais draw blood. Let the Foot or April or whoever use strong language. Show the whole Gabrielle angle.

We talking all red bandanas too? :P

Archie
I think they could use some Archie inspired stuff, since Archie is darker and tougher stories, but most of them were new stories.
|
they could make the show like Xena or Herculous with the fighting and drama with some slight camp here and there to soften the edges. But if this where to ever happen they need to get the suits not crappy CGI. :dead:
|
Just to clarify what I meant.
The show would be 42 minutes long. I think CGI is overplayed and should be live action. And what I meant in my second point was to ask if the show should be more direct adaptations or should they go more the route of season 4 in the NT? |
I think Season 4 of the New toon was great, probably my favorite season. I don't think it should be a reboot though. I doubt people really want to see another origin story. Maybe have it after the events of the 1st movie or the last movie. I think it could work, but I doubt the show would have the budget for this kind of thing to really last. I mean look at what happened to Mortal Kombat Conquest.( for those who know what I'm talking about) Even though it had a fairly large fanbase, their season was cut short due to their low budget. Direct adaptations are all fine and dandy but it also limits the writers to an extent. Make new stories, present new villains, and put different spins on existing characters. I think this could work...for the most part.

Yah. The market is ready for it. Just no over censoring, please. We don't want any "uncompleted Han and the Garbage Man as twins issue again", because it's "too not for the kids".
In anime, lots of arms get cut off and lots of aliens and people die then resurrected (think Dragon Ball), and it's OK with Asian veiwers. I just don't get it why in the West, they can't show a drop of blood. Blood is important. Without it, we're all dead. :ohwell: |

I could imagine Don going to a gay bar. How about Mikey playing the drums & helps our a rock band doing a costume party gig. They should have some fun storylines once in awhile. |

That would bring up greater tension between him and Rapheal. "Who says you're the leader, Leo? I'm not following some gay guy into battle!!!"

I think prime time on a major network might be a long shot.
Maybe as a Sci-Fi Channel series? On second thought, not a good idea. They'd probably do the same thing as BSG and not do a damn thing to make people know the show even exists. |
