Playmates are bigger idiots than I realized

I work in the toy department at Wal-Mart, and since the 2007 movie dubuted all we;ve had is variants on the movie toys. That is till this past summer, know all we have is left overs. This past Sunday I had two seprete kids in the 11/12 range come up to me asking if we had ninja turtle toys from the cartoon series instead of the movie. I assumed they ment the older ones from FF and the earlier seasons so I brought them to the clearance aisles where we had a few straglers that we can't get rid of thats been around forever and on both occassions each kid said no they wanted to know if we had toys from the most recent season Back to the Sewers! :o :o

I was freakin shocked! I was like "uh no, we don't have any toys for the new season the cartoon series" And both wanted to know when we would carry them. :o I couldn't bring my self to tell them that wheren't going to be any because both kids seemed like they really wanted them.

Gee, how idiotic of playmates to not make toys for Back to the Sewers, I'm surpised as heck that I actually had some one ask me about them instead of Bakugan or something. :o

Ninjinister 12-02-2008 12:14 PM

Do kids even play with those Bakugan things? I never see any of 'em get sold.

Yeah, I was at Toys R' Us the day after Back to the Sewer debuted, and a kid wanted (direct quote) "Raph like on TV I saw yesterday". He seemed disappointed that there wasn't one, but he reluctantly settled for Alien Hunter Raph. To my surprise, his mother for whatever reason kept trying to convince him to get an Iron Man figure, and he blatantly refused, preferring Raph instead.

While Playmates are idiots it was Wal-Mart choice to no longer sell TMNT toys by Playmates.
I've been talking about this in the toy section for some time now.
As of this Spring all Wal-Marts will no longer be selling TMNT figures.
I know no one likes to listen to but in time everything I say will come to pass and I'll just sit back and smile I won't even tell everyone i told you so about the toys, or the new toon ending. :D
Oh btw some one should move this to the toy section.

Well, maybe it's just because it's this area, or I haven't been to Wal-Mart in a while, but those Bakugan dealies sit on shelves forever around here, even when marked down for clearance. TMNT, Power Rangers, Hell, I think all action figures move faster than those things.

It does and doesnt for me, it's a shame Wal-Mart the place I work for had a hand in the downfall of the turtles (sort of) and on the other hand i'm happy to know kids still want action figures.

No I mean the fact that Playmates aren't even making the toys that these kids are asking for.

Coola Yagami 12-02-2008 07:54 PM

Exactly.. I want my Cyber Shredder, Cyber Foot and Khan figures.... NAO!!!

Roseangelo 12-02-2008 07:57 PM

i love you so much.

Jelly Bean 12-02-2008 09:30 PM

why didn't you just tell those kids that they wheren't going to be any ninja turtle toys for BTTS and put them out of their misary? Letting them think that it's still a possiablility that toys for the current season might appear at some point when they never will is cruel.

sorry for straying off topic, but i had to say this:

It's stories like this that, no matter what, make me smile in happiness.

I'm glad to know the love I, and everyone here, has for the tmnt spreads even to this day after all this time

And if the whole show is cancelled, will this really matter anyway?

Playmates pisses me off, as much as I hate 4kids, Playmates is even worse.

Tabularasa 12-03-2008 12:52 AM

Just the fact that kids are still watching turtles (even if that is coming to an end) and trying to get their hands on action figures of the turtles makes me happy. Yeah, I know, I'm old fashioned, but maybe if there's still some interest then it won't die out, although I doubt it.

Yes, as Playmates will still hold the toy license to TMNT.

Yeah, it's almost like we're back in 2003, where all the clear and obvious Pokemon type shows ran amok all over toy stores and television. It's the only TV show based toy line I ever see anymore... unless you count Transformers Animated (which pretty much got a push from the movie, plus Transformers have almost always been around).

I can hate them in a sense that they ruined One Piece's chance for ever becoming popular, and they shouldn't do any animes that don't involve some sort of toy thingy fighting another toy thingy,... but seems to me, they care more about TMNT than the toy company and even Mirage seem to... especially these days. I mean, if they didn't care, the show could have just as easily ended 2 years ago...

I wouldn't be surprised if the rest of the retailers did that as well. I could see Target clearing the things out after Christmas. The Minimutants did well a while back, but they still have the same Splinter, Vampire Succubus, and something else that escapes me at the moment at my local Target they had since at least May. And then, hah hah hah... They ROSE THE PRICE OF THEM! (rose is right? Or is it risen?) that's gonna make them move... especially since the AJ Wright next door has the same ones for 5. You'd think if Playmates uses the same molds and sculpts, they'd drop the price to 7 bucks each.

I would totally be surprised if the BTTS sort of toys even happen. The time to strike was a month before the show premiered. The movie line did really well at first because they were hyped up just as the movie trailers were popping out. Now, they're waiting till after the Christmas rush for one thing... and until after the series is over to release them. HAH.

(It's too bad KB doesn't do clearnaced toys anymore... I'd love them to try and sell repackaged TMNT 2K3 toys at about 5 bucks each... at least that way, people will actually see half the toy line)

Do any anime properties do well over there?

Jester 12-03-2008 05:41 PM

Ok, so on a related note, today on my day off I decided to do some running around, which I haven't done in a while due to the MCubed videos I make and I stopped by Toys R Us, which was packed. It made me think, what doe Playmates have to offer kids who are Turtle fans this Christmas, not us adults who have seriously felt slighted by Playmates, but just kids. I realized there is not one thing TMNT related slated for a Christmas release, probably due to the 25th next anniversary year...talk about sad for kids.
