The First Tangible Turtles ** A moment to reflect **
 

Hello Fellow Dromers!

I saw some folks have posted pieces of their collection. So I thought I would show some of mine. BUT FIRST... Thought I would give you some background on these pieces...

Disclaimer: I am in no way an expert here. The information I share is referenced from reading I have done over the years. If you have additional information about these pieces, please share as I would love to learn more myself.

Okay so to get started, in 1984 25mm metal miniatures were produced by a company called Dark Horse. This company was a small producer of metal gaming miniatures in the 80s.

According to Action Figure News and Toy Review, Nov. 14 issue if you are interested, the first miniatures cast by Dark Horse were the four main turtles. These miniatures grew in popularity, and would eventually evolve into about 10 sets of characters taken directly from very early comic books. The miniatures were never mass-marketed. In addition, Dark Horse went out of business. So the miniatures are scarce, but from what I can tell sought after by collectors.

Anyhow, just thought I would share that little tid bit. I hope you enjoyed. Here is a picture for your viewing pleasure. It was hard to capture such small items even with an 8mp camera. If you happen to have any carded miniatures as such, I would love to see them. Please post pics here if you have any.

I have never owned them myself, but they don't fetch too high of prices on eBay that I've seen. There's a couple of sets on right now with a current price of $4.99

They are really neat from what I can tell.

So who all was produced? The Turtles, Casey, Splinter, Shredder, Mousers, Triceratons, and the Terror Bears??

Nice find! Wish I would have seen that one when I purchased these haha. I spent way too much. That seller seems to have quite a bit of Turtle stuff for sale.

I've purchased from this fellow in the past. He generally has some neat TMNT stuff for sale.

Additional MISC Info:

Dark horse used two types of packaging for these figures. The earlier packaging included a red, grey and black card. The packaging there after was more defined with a TMNT logo on the top and Leonardo showing off his swords.

Also, Dark Horse produced a set of four 75mm Turtle Figures. I have yet to see these hit ebay. Would love to see an example of these for sure though.

As the saying goes... 'Ask and you shall receive!' So I was in Columbus Ohio over the weekend, and while I was away someone so kindly took the time to look for the 75mm Dark Horse miniatures, and actually came up with pictures!. I was so excited. :) Anyhow, I will leave them below for your viewing pleasure. Enjoy!

i agree i think the turtle before the playmates line is soo cool. especially seeing the ads in my comics. lol

These were actually extremely rare before Ebay came along. i actually paid a pretty penny for some of the 75mm turtles...

:ohwell: who exactly are the Terror Bears & Dr. Feral?

Sorry it has been so long since I have contributed anything to this. I had the itch to see if anyone had interest, and was happy to see some responses.

So this morning I scanned a few images from my toy guide mag. First, I should say if you do not have the Action Figure News & Toy Review Nov. #14 Issue, GET IT! I think its a great addition to anyone's collection. Its not the turtle bible or anything, but I think it has some valuable information. Anyhow, if scanning images from a mag like this is a big 'no no', please let me know, and I'll take the images down. (Kinda a noob on the whole scanning business. haha)...

These are nice, I'd love to own some of these. But yeah, they cost a bomb on ebay.

I've never seen those red-orange inserts in the "large" figures before..cool.
