Add Hothead, Muckman, and Razhar (to go with Tokka) and you pretty much have my wishlist. Too bad it won't happen uless they have huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge sales. Even then, I'd doubt it.

Didn't someone at Mirage or Playmates suggest that if the first set of re-issues sell well, they might re-release more old toys?

Yes, and the way I see them selling now already you may see more.
But hell I only live in one state so keep your eyes open in your own to see how well they sell.
But only time can tell for sure.

Ninjinister 01-15-2009 10:13 PM

They seem to be selling well all over - but whether that is because these e-scalpers are buyin' 'em and sellin' 'em for $20+, or actual fans are getting their hands on them right out of the shops, I'm not certain about. Either way, someone's buying them, and I hope this is a slap upside the head for Playmates that their old stuff was better than the literal fecal matter they've been flinging at us over the last couple of years, and maybe they'll focus on more old-school stuff.

Wishful thinking, but in this world, we need all the optimism we can get. Feeling this way for a toy line is a start.

Let's remember that GI Joe 25th Anniversary was slated to be 8 figures. It sold so well, they continued it. Playmates could do the same here.

Jester 01-15-2009 10:26 PM

GK, was the original run re-releases of old sculpts or redesighned sculpts?

How can I remember? I didn't even know they were releasing any 25th anniversary figures?

...Touche Ninjinster.... Touche.

Jester; They were resculpts, as Hasbro has a policy against re-releasing classic figures in their original form a second time. The point I guess I was trying to get at as, they are both Anniversary lines. Lines intended to be a short run. And in the case of GI Joe, the demand was so great, Hasbro decided to continue it. Playmates *could* do the same here.

Not saying they will, as I mean, we just don't know. But I'm subscribing to the "Never say never" Train of thought for this one.

...That and I'd love for them to release more old toon related figs.

BigApple3AM 01-15-2009 10:40 PM

If the reissues do well what would you guys rather see: old school characters that were never done in a similar style (maybe get the original sculptors back), or a new toy line of the old cartoon in a new format (most likely like what playmates has been doing for the past couple years)?

Either way if these sell well they'll probably just do more reissues, but I can hope. I'd take either of the above.

O/T I thought the GI Joe line was always intended to last longer than 8 figures? I remember the first announcement before any figures shown and they said this was going to be the new direction for GI Joe (that was around the time of sigma sux).

Actually, it was planned to be 25 figures (I always thought one for each year :P) with two 5 figure box sets being the test. By the time it got to wave 2, they made it into a full line again.

Anyways, TMNT ain't GI Joe or Transformers. It's not a fair comparison anymore because there is a much bigger group that collects and have been collecting GI Joe and Transformers. TMNT, on the other hand, has had problems selling ever since they were big in the 90's. Yes, the 2k3 line did well, but mostly because the price fit the toys. Cheap. Now it's nothing but Turtle variants and high prices for about the same products.

Now, I ain't saying TMNT toys suck or anything, I'm just saying that the price is way to high for the product. I ain't gonna pay $10 for 2 Mini Mutants with parachutes (and what looks to be no articulation) when I can buy 2 Robot/Combat/Galactic Heroes for $6-$7.

On a side note, I've still haven't seen the reissues because I've only been able to go to Walmart since they've come out. So, yeah, Playmates needs Walmart to sell more.

GK Punk 01-15-2009 11:01 PM

I could swear I read that it was intended to be the two box sets. they just sold well enough to continue the line.

And I think you missed my point a tiny bit, I wasn't comparing TMNT To GI Joe, I was comparing sales to sales. If a company makes sales with something, they try to continue doing so.

Oh, well then, in that case Playmates will...reissue a bunch of Turtle variants because they "sell the best"

I laugh, but I wouldn't put it pass them...

Anywho, I guess I'm just getting a bit tired of people saying something like "it worked for [insert Hasbro brand here]". And it's always a Hasbro brand too. Makes me feel like if Ninja Turtles could just get their foot (get it, Foot? :P) in Hasbro's door, the line would be set for life (or at least long enough to make it to 50).

Tough choice. I would be happy with either.

Chrissie Terrapin 01-16-2009 07:02 AM

I wish Venus could come back in a figure, girl fans should have more female characters to look up at^^

too bad Peter don't like her. I understand that she's a mood ruiner, with the turtles are alone even among friends since they are one (four?) of a kind.

Samhain 01-16-2009 08:03 AM

yeah right......

Drtooth 01-16-2009 10:04 AM

You know... I'd love to see them re-release the Saint Seiya Turtles, but there's absolutely no way they would.

But I really think that if they sell well, Baxter and Mundo Gecko would be perfect candidates for populars and fan favorites. Maybe make a deal with Stan Sakai and re-release Usagi too. Maybe re-release some of the fun varients of the Turtles... just no Farmer Mike or Party Magician that looks sort of like Snidely Whiplash Raph.

Of course, I don't know how well they're doing in my area... when I saw them, I guess they just put them out.

CyberCubed 01-16-2009 03:52 PM

If we do get a second wave of figures, I bet these will be some of the ones they choose:

Krang's Android Body and/or the original Krang
Baxter Stockman
Rat King
Leatherhead
General Traag

And....4 more Turtles from a different wave. Maybe the Wacky Action ones or the Toon wave.

I'd love to see Vernon, Irma and Burne re-released.
