Why you Should not Buy into these 25th Turtles
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=200301285275
I just recieved them this morning. 10 out of the 10 Original run of Turtles. All are soft Heads with Made in Macao printed on them. (Splinters Made in China) April is the no stripe version. All for $27.56 Shipped to me. You cant even get a set of 4 Turtles for that price from Target. I don't feel these rereleases are a good deal for the money they want. No license fee - No New Mold Fee As expensive as brand new toys in the marketplace. |
And your point is...?
I don't want 40+ used Turtle figures; I want maybe one or two that haven't been played with. ;) |
My point is I paid $27 shipped for a unplayed with original set.
My point is you can find much better deals for collectors then these rereleases. Who wants a rerelease over a original ? |
How do you know they aren't played with?
|
A) Those are used and that picture is hardly any indication to little knicks and such that could be on them.
B) I keep most of my turtles MOC C) It's rare to find a MOC lot of figures for that price D) The figures I buy at Target are packaged. E) I have the soft heads and I don't like them because their heads don't match the body of the figure. The heads are way lighter. F) I own all the figures being re-released anyways and I'm buying them because I feel like it. |
Yeah, not to mention some collectors want the rerelease with the dvd and the 25th anniversary packaging. For some, they just like walking into a store and seeing those classic toys hanging on the pegs. I'm pretty sure most collectors on this site know to find TMNT figures on eBay. Being able to buy the classic figures in "used" condition for potentially less money is still not a compelling reason (for some) to avoid the 25th figs.

Indeed, for me part of it is the thrill of the hunt to. Only if I absolutly have no recourse do I buy online.

I didn't get the memo guys, I already bought 2 sets of the turtles. |
The way I see it, this debate of buy/don't buy is a stalemate. There are good reasons on both sides and really it's just personal peference. I don't think it's worth the price since I have most (regardless of condition), but others don't have any/many or are MOC collectors and the price might not be as bad to them.
Really, I think if I had a shelf to put them out, I'd warrent the price since my Don and Mike are in bad shape and I never had Raph and Leo, though I skipped all four earlier today. |
Those 25th Turtles aren't going anywhere. I'll grab them when they're 75% off just like the Marvel Legends Rulk line.
|
These arnt providing much of a thrill to hunt to me.
They are hanging in Target everytime I walk in. I have collected these figures for the last 7 years. And to me they are a big disapointment. You can get the original carded figures for $15-20 each. The original card art looks 100% better then the jumbled mess that is this "25th" line. Maybe Im just spoiled by the amazing 25th Ann. G.I.Joe figures I have been collecting since 2007. |

well theyre what 8:99? good deal if you ask me. i look forward to the rest of the re-release toys in target. i like seeing the classic toys on the pegs. they been restocked two times and theyre being bought off---like hotcakes.

The point I was trying to make was that their not so great of a deal.
The fact that they are selling shows how good these figures really were (are). Maybe if playmates starts to make new figures of simular quality they would be selling even more figures then they are right now. I would love for them to create new figures in the same style to go with my vintage collection. But I dont see it happening. Playmates doesnt have skulpters that can put the detail and heart in the skulpts as the artists did in the 1990s. Playmates will be blown out of the water when the toy isle is filled with Transformers & G.I.Joe movie toys a few months from now. So instead of updated skulpts Im suposed to pay $8.99 for a 1988 toy I just bought on Ebay for $3.00 ? |
Do I have to keep repeating myself? :shredder:
Basically these toys were made to appeal to kids who had these toys, but grew out of them, tossed them away or something, and now automatically care because 1980's nostalgia is back. Not e-bay Hunters or people that still followed the TMNT through the 3 dollar clearance rereleases at KB. I don't know if I'd get the 4 Turtles, but I sure want a new Rocksteady and a Bebop (never had him). I think 8.99 is a bit much, but I think that's a sign the 5-7 dollar action figure movement is over. But then again, if I'm buying something used on E-bay, I want something that will not ever be available again. The Darkwing Duck line, M.U.S.C.L.E.... stuff like that. |
Yeah, I remember when Turtles start at like $3.29 and eventually went up to around $5... Given the prices, $8.99 isn't that bad.. I remember I bought a Queen Alien to fight my Turtles are she cost around $8 which I thought was expensive at the time..

These turtles are what got me back into collecting. It's a great jumping on point for someone who was a fan of the original toys, but really wasn't a collector until now. I really enjoy the character selection, and for some people without ebay access, this is a cool alternative. :D

Apparently Im in the minority of Turtle collectors.
I did not collect much of the 2k3 or Movie collection - Just the basics. And I collect the vintage toys. Maybe thats why I can purchase these figures for a fraction of the cost of what playmates is trying to sell them again for. I enjoy having the originals, be it soft head or hard head. I collect vintage toys. Im not quite sure on enjoying the character selection ? Theirs 8 figures out with 4 more planned. The vintage line has well over 100 figures to choose from. Maybe after the new collectors pick up these figures they will want to collect more from the old line. Im just not understanding all of this excitement for these "25th" turtles. |
