I'm certainly no expert on mirc, but isn't irc for Mac, and mirc for Microsoft, or something like that?

IRC is just another part of the Internet like http, nttp, ftp, etc. mIRC happens to be a windows-based client to access IRC ;)

There is a Macintosh IRC client available: http://www.ircle.com/
