Official Ep Discussion: "Super Power Struggle"

Official Ep Discussion: "Super Power Struggle"

Welcome back to your local Episode discussion station!

Needless to say, after a Long long LONG break since the last episode, there's some stuff that needs to be
refreshed for plot's sake..
  • Splinter is Still floating in cyberspace. The guys kinda work off and on in order to pull his pieces out of the various corners and blogs of the internet. At this point we're not quite sure HOW much has been found, but considering the episode After this one is the last.... it must be pretty close to complete.

  • Casey and April are tying the knot! The engagement got off to a bit of a rocky start with a certain Evil engagement ring, but the couple are happily planning the event. Not that anything could go wrong with This, right...?

  • And finally... well, damn. The show's finishing up soon. I wish I could sum my feelings about it in one post, but I don't think I could really express it right at this point. But let me just say that I've loved writing these discussions over the years, ever since the very first season all the way up to now. I do hope you've had as much fun reading and taking part in these as much as I have in writing them.

***Remember folks, the Line-up's been change, and the turtles start at 9:30am***

A couple weeks back (when I first started writing this), I was watching 'The seven deadly sins' on the History Channel, and the episode I watched was surrounding the sin of Envy.

Envy: (Noun) A feeling of discontent and resentment aroused by and in conjunction with desire for the possessions or qualities of another.

Oh, to have that person's body, to have that person's talents. Job. Car. Wife. But Superpowers? What if you had one thing that could let you do whatever you wanted? Run, fly, swim, see anything you wanted? All of these powers held in the gentle folds of a simple cloth cape. You wouldn't give up such a thing... you'd treasure it and Guard it with your LIFE!

But there's always those... those who want what they don't have. And there's nobody worser at coveting another's property than a BROTHER. Anyone with a brother or sister knows the dreaded game of 'keep-away', whether they were the keepers or the one trying to get the item back.

In this week's episode, it's going to be Raphael that does the keep-away with Mike. The episode starts out in 1968, a brutal battle taking place mid-air. A superhero is clobbered by a villain, losing his special glowing green cape in the process. A young buck-toothed boy finds the cape and quicky returns home with his prize.

We then move to Present day in NYC. Mike and Raph are out on a rooftop run, escaping the HARD MISERABLE work of A. Finding their father and B. Helping Casey and April with their wedding. Tragic, ain't it?

Mike drags Raph to the opening of the New York Comic 'Caucus' - clever, right? We get our first glimpse of the new and improved BttS Dr. Malignus, The Silver Sentry's main arch nemesis that we've seen in previous escapades. Malignus manages to get to the now middle-aged bearer of the supercape and steals it, running to the streets.

While Mike/Turtle Titan is busy chatting with fellow geeks about superhero junk, Raphael does his own heroics and manages to tear the cape from Malignus's grasp, also helping a security cop in the process. Raphael acquires super powers with the cape. He even manages to impress the Justice Force with his abilities, gaining himself a position as a recruit. Needless to say, the Turtle Titan is Green with envy.

Unfortunately, Raph's new abilities gets extra attention from Dr. Malignus, and the feuding duo must make amends to stop their opponent.

WILL MIKE AND RAPH STOP MALIGNUS FROM GETTING THE CAPE?!
WILL MIKE AND RAPH MAKE AMENDS?!
WHAT THE HELL'S GOING ON WITH THE SPLINTER STORYLINE?!

And even though Al Gore's Doomsday Clock always speeds up whenever I say it...

STAY TUNED!!!

((Edit: Wow... I just realized I hit over 15K... 15K2! :D ))

The Final Turtle Titan Episode

How did you like the final Turtle Titan episode? As a Turtle Titan fan, cool!

Having all those puns, Tortoise Boy, the Shell Wonder, Green Mantle, Al Gordon? All DC parodies!

That makes 6 Turtle Titan episodes overall & he'll always live in my heart.

Drtooth 02-21-2009 01:03 PM

.... There's already a thread about this... but I see someone hasn't unlocked it yet. :trolleye:

I still say it's like a Darkwing Duck episode with Gizmoduck in it. And I'm pretty disappointed we'll never get a redesigned Turtle Titan action figure.

gobo 02-21-2009 01:08 PM

I'm glad they toned dow Mikey's juvenile glory-hound behavior from Fast Forward. I honestly wasn't expecting The Green Mantle to be such a thinly veiled Green Lantern knockoff... but, I should have known better by now. Raph as the Green Mantle looked like Turtle Saint to me. Not trying to take credit for anyone else's observations, but that was the first thing that came to mind when he transformed. That sounded like DiMaggio as Malignus to me. Anyone else thought so? Even though this ep was filler (entirely removable from the series without leaving any plot-holes), it was decent.

Yeah, I kinda thought it was obvious too.

I was thinking today how much the show has changed since the first season. I don't have the same excitement about new episodes I had back then, but I still enjoy them very much.:tgrin:

I enjoyed the humor of Mikey showing up late with nothing to do but get bonked on the head. The little things amuse me.:D

I do like how the Justice Force is now an almost complete homage to the Justice League.

Silver Sentry=Superman
Nobody=Batman
Green Mantle=Green Lantern
Raptarr=Hawkman
Scion of Battling Bernice=Wonder Woman[?]
Nano?
Eh, I forget the rest!

CyberCubed 02-21-2009 01:48 PM

lol, I wish that other thread were unlocked

StealthNinjaScyther 02-21-2009 01:52 PM

Episode was meh. Could have done without the childish bickering.

Nano doesn't strike me as being a clear parody of any DC hero, but there are some similarities between him and Brainiac/Brainiac 5.

gobo 02-21-2009 01:56 PM

What about Red Tornado?

Machias Banshee 02-21-2009 03:31 PM

Sonuva...

Sorry everyone... I asked for a mod to open this for me since I would not be here this morning..

Just tell me which threads belong here so I can merge them in.

:ohwell: :mango:

CyberCubed 02-21-2009 03:33 PM

Well, I thought this ep was ok. Its just a shame this was the second to last episode.

BTTS feels like it should have been 26 episodes, which is why this season feels uneven.

I didn't expect this ep to be such a Green Lantern parody though, I mean right down to his looks and everything.

Jester 02-21-2009 03:41 PM

Indeed. But with Nobody and Silver Sentry, we kinda needed a GL.

Not my favorite episode, basically because I'm about sick of Turtle Titan and Mikey being a little brat when he's super-1-uped and I agree with BL, this wasn't Raph...it was...someone else. Though I do think it's cool that when he had the powers he didn't really let them go to his head...too much.

Next week looks awsome though...to bad it's the end. :(

CyberCubed 02-21-2009 03:43 PM

Mike didn't act the same way as in the FF Turtle Titan ep though, there he basically plunged the guy to his doom.

Aneras713 02-21-2009 04:41 PM

I liked the episode and all, but honestly I really don't like Turtle Titan episodes.
Tortous Boy,, I was wondering when they were gonna use that. Remember the "Comic Books Are For Losers" mini ep?

oldmanwinters 02-21-2009 05:08 PM

Wow, did about 3 or 4 threads just merge into one? To quote Dragonball Z season 6 or 7 or... whatever....

"FUSION!!!"

Machias Banshee 02-21-2009 05:17 PM

Yeah, I'm just trying to get all the ep discussions merged into one thread for ease of tracking purposes... :) If anyone wants their stuff merged here as well, just PM me..

I agree that the Turtle Titan episodes are my least favorites. I especially didn't like since it like a few other episodes didn't add to the story although they where working with only 13 episodes. Mikey keep being late was very Amusing however. Wonder if Mikey stashed some of that money away in his costume

Buslady 02-21-2009 09:28 PM

this was the biggest pile of crap I've ever seen.
As an insanely dedicated Raph fan, this was the WORST use of his character, I'm convinced whoever wrote this atrocity has no idea of his character at all. This was worse than FF combined!
Raph felt very OOC, it wasn't him...it was some imposter!

BLEAH!!!

*rant rant rant rant*

Shred Head 02-21-2009 09:41 PM

This was a very blah episode and with it being such a long time inbetween episodes and with well one more episode left it really sucks that its a crappy superhero episode. I dont know why the crew loves to do these Justice Force episodes there so boring and out of place with the Turtles world.

What was good
- Some of the superhero jokes and references were funny and cool.
- I'm more then sure it wasn't intentional but Green Mantle Raph's face looked like the Japanese OVA Super Turtles.
- Malignus's design looked pretty cool
- Mikey was toned down at least he wasn't crazy like in the FF episode.

What was bad
- Who the hell was that guy that was calling himself Raph that wasn't Raph. Iknow he's been alittle OOC since FF and yeah its gotten worse since then with this season but man this was about as bad as that singing frog moment.
- The action where was it that fight with the robots was so lame I mean a big green tornado. I dont know that whole fight just seemed really anticlimactic to me.
- A little subplot or maybe a scene showing Leo and Don getting the last bits would have been nice.

So all and all yeah not the best or even really good probraly the third worst episode this season. Now for final episode this season and the whole series at least tell the DTV.

VaughnMichael 02-21-2009 09:45 PM

You know I wouldn't mind episodes like this if there would be more episodes.
with that said what a waste of space this episode was, sure it was nice to see these other characters again and I enjoy their designs and all but seriously this Mikey's a big baby fest just was not needed.
& that's pretty much all I've got to say on this.
While this episode was pretty much pointless next week looks as if it could be the best of the Back to The Sewer episodes.
It makes me so happy to see all of those characters, I really wish this wasn't the end but what a way to go out, brings a tear to my eye.

CyberCubed 02-21-2009 09:51 PM

If they knew this was the end, we'd likely not have gotten this ep.

This ep is proof they thought the show would go on longer.

Why didn't BTTS get 26 episodes?
