Do you use music for inspiration?

Well, I know people write fanfics/storys, and I want to know:
Do you use music as an inspiration for the particular mood you want to set in your fanfic/story? Like a there's a sad moment, and you listen to a sad song.

I use the following songs for inspiration:
Shinobi - Shinobi VS Dragon Ninja - For intense action scenes.
Certain good Dragonball Z songs - For certain action scenes.
Final Fantasy music - Either for sad or moving moments.
Devil May Cry music - Definatly for very, very fast moving scenes.
Jazz - For laid back moments and talking scenes.
Horror music - For those OMG moments.

How about you?

No, but most of the time I do listen to music while working on the computer.

I love to listen to all sorts of music, from old 80s faves (father figure rocks! :D ) to pure moods, to Staind, Linkin Park, to Limp Bizkit, to Andrew Lloyd Webber, to New Zealand/Maori music, etc...

Its all good... :D

While I don't listen to music in order to set my mood while writing, music does inspire me. I'll listen to a certain song and a story idea will just pop into my head. Sometimes I'll insert the song into the story, usually coming from a radio or something, but most of the time not.

If i ever want inspiration, I listen to Big Band jazz music. I can't stand that other music they call jazz (kenny g, BLECGH!). Here we have one radio station that plays big band jazz 24/7, and since no one knows about the station, it barely has any commercials. its awesome.

But, when I'm not in need of inspiration, I listen to punk rock

Newfound Glory
Ataris
Midtown
Jimmy Eat World
Good Charlotte

etc etc

i saw new found glory for 5 bucks back in the day, now they suck, good charlotte sucks too, not very good inspirational music IMO

I use music for inspiration all the time! sometimes in my stories/ fanfics that I write a put a little note in telling what kind of music would be playing in the background......I think music helps set the mood for most anything.....

I am unable to listen to music while I write since it distracts me but music is a big factor in my lifestyle and way of thinking.

selected bands: Misfits, Dead Kennedys, GWAR, Mushroomhead, Mr. Bungle

Whenever I listen to music it sets my mood fo rthe day. If I listen to sad music I'm sad all day, and if it's happy I'm happy all day. I don't know maybe I just have problems or something.

Oh yeah. I don't often like sit down and actually listen to music while I write, but I do when I draw sometimes. And music does play a big influence in my fanfic writing, though, I'll listen to a song and get an image in my head, either for a scene or an entire story. One that I'm working on is entirely inspired by Misfits songs.

Bands that inspire me:

Misfits, Guns N Roses, Fozzy, Bon Jovi, Offspring, AFI, those are the ones that inspire my creativity the most.

I use music for various reasons. I will type/study to music. I also use it for inspiration. I also would ride my horses to music.

That Matt Guy 04-19-2003 08:37 PM

What would music inspire me to do? Clean out the air filter on my lawn mower?

GK Punk 04-19-2003 09:25 PM

Well, I am a pseudo-musician, so yeah music inspires me in everything... Non more than Nirvana... althought a few others that inspire me are Guns N Roses, Offspring, Pearl Jam, ALICE IN CHAINS and The Yellow Monkey

Kid Icarus 04-20-2003 10:36 AM

Music dosent' really inspire me as much as it keeps me going on a project.
