Can anyone clear this up for me?

Jester 07-23-2009 04:59 PM

Look like cards that may have come with the TMNT Turtle Pies....but I dunna.

Bigfoot 07-23-2009 04:59 PM

Wow, havent seen these in a long time. I had some as a kid, that I believe I got from a vending machine. Is there anything on the back, or is it all white?

saiyan_monkey 07-23-2009 05:02 PM

They're just blank white card backs and they're thin as as well..

Bigfoot 07-23-2009 05:21 PM

Yeah, I am pretty sure I got mine from a vending machine. They were pressed between 2 pieces of cardboad for 50 cents. I believe there were only 4 in the set.

Edit: Does it look like they could be stickers?

saiyan_monkey 07-23-2009 06:54 PM

Its possible but theres no peel here or anything like that on them and i dont want to try see if 1 peels

MrPliggins 07-23-2009 08:17 PM

The artwork is the same as was used for the tmnt pie stickers. I don't recall these particular hologram cards being packaged with them though.

saiyan_monkey 07-23-2009 09:23 PM

It is possible that they are stickers but without been willing to check I cant say for sure. They are standard card size if that helps at all. Anyone know about the 2nd guestion at the bottom of the topic?

Bigfoot 07-23-2009 09:57 PM

I know what you mean, I don't know why.

The ones on top are super shiny and almost slippery, they are the ones with the white backs. Then there are the lower ones that I thought were older, but they are both dated the same year.

saiyan_monkey 07-23-2009 10:08 PM

Close but no. I have the collector box and the packet version which you have pictured. I have those 2 but my packet version was from one of these boxes.

http://www.wholesalegaming.com/tradi.../toppstmntbox/

The packets from those are the plastic type packs and a set I got today with all 4 packs are a slight darker ink used and the 4 packets were made of a paper type product. Im thinking maybe that the packs in the link are maybe a re-print and the cards I just got are an original print set but without seeing the box and the seller I brought them off not really knowing its hard ti figure out wether I should keep them of just sell them on.

I'll do a few scans soon but apart from the darker ink and different packets theres no difference.

EDIT: I just figured out.

The darker ink cards are from the small 5 cards/1 sticker packs that sold for 25cents
http://i763.photobucket.com/albums/x...ary_5/pack.jpg

and the lighter print cards are from the jumbo packs 11 cards/ 1 sticker that sold for 59cents

Heres a link that sort of explains the difference, and you get to see my name at the bottom of the notes.http://nslists.com/tmnt1.htm

The 2nd question is now solved. Still need help with placing the 1st 4 cards. So far they come from a vending machine.

Bigfoot 07-24-2009 07:51 PM

Would you happen to know why there is the difference between the pics I showed? I have both sets, and they are exactly the same, but one is on much nicer glossier card stock. The other almost looks recycled...lol

Yes. the white back glossy cards are from this

http://i763.photobucket.com/albums/x...y_5/boxpic.jpg

Did you not get them in the box with 22 bonus cards?

The 2nd recycled looking cards are from 1 of the 2 packs pictured above. The 25cent or 59cent packs.

I have 7 sets (different countries and variations) of series 1 and out of all of them the USA collector box glossy cards are by far the best made and best looking cards.

Ive been told through another site that the 4 cards pictured are from the small 25c packs and are promo inserts that are not numbered???

Anyone have a box of them and pulled out 1 of these or all 4?

I'm not sure how those cards were obtained exactly, but they weren't inserts. I do think it was some sort of mail-away.

I have determined the official source of these 4 hologram sticker-cards. I bought a couple sets off eBay and asked the seller if he could verify the source. He said that they did indeed come from old vending machines and that he acquired many sets from a display that used to sit inside an old vending machine. So, for anyone who cares -- these were from vending machines!

As previous posters have said, they feature the exact same artwork that was used on the Hostess Pie stickers (the Hostess Pie wrappers were the same too, except the turtles were holding pies instead of weapons). If you look closely, you can see Mikey with a mouthful of Turtle Pie. So strange and random to think that they recycled this Hostess artwork and made holographic cards for vending machines, but I'm glad this mystery has been solved.

Oh, and just an FYI - I'm obsessed with the Hostess Turtle pies and any related merchandise/collectibles. This is my first post...here's to many more. Cowabunga dudes!

I'd like to see what you have! I've seen a good deal of them posted on eBay, but I'd love to see your personal collection.

Sorry, I honestly didn't have a clue this was bad form? (Is it because the thread was dead too long ago?) I'm gonna head to the Forum Rules right now so I don't tick someone off within the first week of joining!
